They removed it now? Now that I got my refund and completely removed Aion and GG?! Damn! Not fair... :-/
It's because of people like you that GG was removed. You used your wallet to speak for you and they heard you. Your actions have helped those of us who decided to stick it out and we appreciate it
Now go get another copy.
LOL! Thank you!
A friend of mine once told me that the only way you can make someone to hear you is by hurting their pocket. I found that to be right in numerous occasions.
Anyway, I'm glad it turned out this way and hopefully NCSoft will develop much better ways to keep Aion safe.
I preordered the CE, where I live, I will be paying 89$ +tx for the game. I was gonna cancel my preorder on the last minute because I was waiting to see what they were going to do with GG. Well, I decided I will still be canceling it because I am not stupid enough to fall into the ''you are the customer, we are listening to you, we removed GG and we will be putting it back in when you pay for the game and you get invested in it''. I respect NcSoft, I've dealth with them in the past without any problems, but this time, I will not be making the mistake of buying Aion. It would be like going to buy a car, the car has a crappy engine, they change it, and then after I pay for the car, they put the engine back in. Makes no sense. Because GG will never be a quality product, they will never fix all the problems with GG. It is a virus (not a literal virus, more like a viral infection).
In this case, it would be the battery of the car, not the engine as that would be aion itself :P. But anyway, as I've mentioned before, why would they want to put the exact same GG back into Aion later? The answer is, they wouldn't. Some people think it's some huge conspiracy to get more people to buy the game, but honestly, the monthly subs is where the money is at and NCSoft knows this. Do you really think they will put GG back if it means fewers subs? Ofcourse not, the whole idea behind GG is to stop hacking/botting to keep the subscribers.
But anyway, we'll see what they decide to do with GG.
I am shocked. Just floored that Gamguard was dropped. Guess it's time to go buy that G15 and Razer MMO mouse. NCSoft has been using gameguard in a couple of their titles for over 6 years. The article says that it has been deactivated until they can come up with a way to sucessfully integrate it.
So I suppose they're still going to use gamguard (i mean heck they've already contracted and paid for it), it's just that they're not going to turn it on until they know it's not going to crash you. Gamguard Lite maybe?

This is the kind of thing companies need to be using, not over-the-top measures like GameGuard, which will not help in any case. This is so easy to implement, and anyone can report anyone, but if the person is not a bot, they will be mildly annoyed, but they can continue on without problems. If the person is a bot, they will die horribly and no longer be accomplishing anything.
Too often, companies do not realise that the easiest solution is usually staring them in the face if only they are willing to use a little logic, and to look at the system from a gamer's point of view. From out perspective, GameGuard is useless because anyone can crack it with five minutes and a search engine, and when a new version comes out, someone out there will have the time and motivation to crack it. When they do, anyone can use the new crack idea. However, GameGuard takes some development time, and NCSoft (and whoever else) has to buy it. But a simple, easy to code solution like poison that a player can remove but a computer program cannot will stop bots in their tracks utterly.
Obviously, this will not stop hacks, but that should be handled by having a game without many holes to use rather than a third-party defence programme. I wish more people could realise what seems so obvious to some of us, and vote with their dollar, as I, and others, have done. NCSoft is a good company on the whole, and it seems they listened to an extent.
I think the key now is to continue to rail against GameGuard, and tell NCSoft that no matter how good a game is, we will not be buying it when they are using a useless and cumbersome system to protect their game. If I cannot have my AntiVirus running or surf the web while playing the game, it is doing something to my computer that I do not want to happen.

I agree with you about the battery lol
I know that mmos future depends on their subs and not the number of games they sell, but when a gamer gets hooked, most of the time they don't quit, and I am under the impression that that is what they are going for. It is not a conspiration or anything like that, it's just a marketing strategy that is devious imo if it were true, because up to now it is only my opinion that that is what they are doing.
GG will be back like it is now, people have been complaining about GG for years, this is not new, and they have not done anything about the issues. try to google any GG problem that people are having today, go to google options and google the same problem with the date like 5 years ago, and you'll see that they were having the same problems.
Also, people have been asking GG for years to stop integrating it as a rootkit, as I've mentioned in another post earlier this month, there are a ton of better anti hack programs out there that almost completely stop hackers, and they are completely removable from your system after uninstallation of the game, take for example games like EQ2, WoW, LOTRO, all these games have integrated anti hack systems that work perfectly, but they do not stick in your computer like a virus that cannot be removed.
My life do not depend on Aion, it is just a source of fun for me, so I will be patient, and if in a couple of months they reintegrate it, I will just completely scrap it off my books, if they decide to not deal with GG anymore, then I will just sub to the game.

Yeah, I'm pretty glad that they dropped game guard like that. I was using windows 7 and having a litte bit of trouble. I hope it improves our performance. Because I was having a bit of frame rate trouble as well. I mean no one will be hacking Aion, but it is good to have gameguard off. It has really caused a lot of complications in the past.
Dear god, the servers will be plagued by bots -.-.
lol game guard never prevented this in the first place, its a joke. my friend was one of the ones having trouble with GG so he just disabled it, some one else said google it, its easy to bypass. he just had to put something in its folder to turn it off.
Depends on the version I guess, some version will do a file check before each launch (that's when GG shows up top left corner and checks it's file for a few seconds). When it does that, it will redownload itself if any alteration were made and auto-launch, so the "bypass" which is really changing the gameguard.exe with a dummy .exe, fails.
Also, I've had experience with gameguard, it's main purpose is tp stop the script kiddies and noobs from using or making bots. Making a bot is ridiculously simple, but goign through gameguard is a whole other story (when it's working anyway). So please, before saying Gameguard is useless, learn what it does before, you are only spreading misinformation.
how is what i posted misinformation? my friend bypassed it with something he added to the folder, he got the walk through by googling it.and it was the GG version Aion was using, it was Aion he was having problems from GG with. now they might "fix" GG and THAT exact file he added won't work later, but within a couple of days tops people WILL bypass it. GG has always been a joke for security, how many games with GG has you seen NOT infested with bots? the new patch on the korean test will kill most of the ore gathering ones. after that goes in they will need a player sitting at the computer to enter the code for when they get the sickness. wich kinda defeats the purpose of a bot.
Umm.... no it doesn't. Let me explain. There will be ONE chinese farmer monitoring 100 bots. When a bot gathering ore gets the penalty and needs to enter the captcha key, the bot will beep, the chinese farmer will type in the captcha and he will do that for hours on end. It will stop casual botters from farming nodes though.

Dont lecure people aboput spreading missinformation if you are spreading missinformation yourself.
Game guard is useless as it can be totally bypassed, and the only thing it offers is a bag of problems for some people, and one more security hole for everyone. If somone is "smart enough" to download scripts or cheat software, he is also smart enough to get software to block GameGuard.
I just repurchased the collector's edition and I guess I'll be around for a bit... unless NCSoft decides to re-launch GG!
gg is dead on till lunch is finish then ncsoft will reactivate it ! sorry to displease you max one week and its back online
we wouldnt want to have bad sale just for a little thing such as game guard
ok so we ll delay a week just long enough por player to buy the game !
after that who cares? we lll just activew gamegauard .business as usual(evil grin)
I really don't think they will, not in it's current form anyway. They want people talking about Aion, not about GameGuard. This is not the kind of publicity they want. Having your game screw with peoples antivirus and security is very bad publicity indeed. I'm guessing their going to quietly let GameGuard go away and have INCA or someone else come up with a better solution. If they just bring it back the way it is people will leave in droves for the next game.
