I got this message for Ayase, and as you know, no launch can be perfect, however...as ayase says:
I'm going to disagree with anyone who is saying that we've had a "bad launch". It's been fantastic. So many players logging in at once, and our servers are going strong.
A separate matter is the one about queues. There are queues, yes, and the ones of the most popular servers are long. One of the easier decision any development team makes when developing a game is what user amount to optimize it for. Aion was designed to run good with low, medium or high amounts of players, but as with any game -- not too many at the same time. That doesn't make sense from any perspective. The game would then be designed to cater best to masses of people present only during sub-1% spike time spans of the game's live service, and during these initial rushes of players logging in the concurrency would skyrocket if we didn't put some type of limit on it.
Our queues were implemented to nurture Aion's long-term health. We don't want to see a scenario where servers get beaten up, left shaking out of fear on the sidewalk, already during the first hour. We don't want to see a scenario where we put too many servers online resulting in a barren wastelands of empty worlds once the initial rush settles down. We're dynamic in the way we manage our servers, and we want to be open about this. If we see that queues are still long in a while, we'll look into opening up new servers; we'll look into tweaking maximum concurrency and maximum queue size limits. You will be able to log in - perhaps not right away - but the queues will settle down.
I've played MMO's for a long time, just as many of you guys have, and I've witnessed queues before. I'm an Aion player just as you and I'm witnessing them now. I know how annoying it is to wait, but I've also come to understand the importance of the queues. They're there in the beginning to make sure that your server's got a large, healthy population mid- and long-term, and that's an investment I'm personally willing to make.

So, please understand that Aion's launch is optimal, plz don't be mad, be patient and thankful.

I'm sorry but i'm going to have to disagree? Seriously? awesome i've got some douche telling me how i should feel on their failure to "head start". Make this post at launch you moron. Now i really am pissed!
I already kind of figured this was the case. Too bad my characters are on like the 2nd most popular server. And I'm not willing to play on the other servers (out of stubbornness) so I guess I'll just wait for the queues to die down or something. At least it'll be safe to assume that my server will be thriving for quite a long while.

No problem, I'm sorry about how feel man...I feel pretty bad too, but I'm just spreading the news. And, this was the most logical article I could find.
tell the bitch to get outta the queue and make way for ppl who pay and aren't handed a free account for working for the company :P
Thanks for posting that over here, Syno!

I wish all the whiners go cry to their mommy's and leave the queues =P

Failure? Hardly.
Head start is practically the launch. There were 400k~ people that preordered, and you can bet a majority of them (The smart people that got the game digitally) tried to log in and get ingame.
If you weren't a narrow-minded dipshit you'd realize they had to do this to prevent servers crashes for hours, if not days.
Where are all the intelligent and logical thinking people? I rarely find them on the internet anymore.
well concidering the game ACTUALLY hasn't OFFICIALLY launched (we are only in headstart for pre-orders no retail box owners yet.(i mean the peps that dont want to download a 9gig client and have limited connection bandwidth) this might Cripple Aion's reputation and put alot of retail boxes off reducing overall profits made from retail boxes.

They went extinct Aions ago......
C wut I did thar?
People just need to wait for the noob zones to clear up, which unfortunately may take a few more hours. But it's most certainly better than constant server crashes and disconnects.

Nah, I pre-ordered for the items and the few days extra too. :P

That is not a response, that is spin. No matter how you spin it the record number of pre orders customers they have been bragging about are now a record of customers who bought access but are getting 6 hour queues. No matter how they try to spin it this is a big fail, and likely to get far worse before it gets any better.
But if I am wrong, NCsoft can change their advertising to say something like 'join record numbers of pre orders customers in waiting 5 or 6+ hours in queues'. Of course, they won't do that because if people knew they would so mishandle the launch they would not have preordered and not buy the game for launch plain and simple.

my question: with a known (and widely touted in a press release!) number of pre-orders sold, how do login queues happen?
if i sell 400 tickets to a party, i should expect most of those people to show up at it's door and plan accordingly.
i fear these queues are going to be much worse on the 22nd, when more than 400k people try to login.
Launch??
What Launch?
My bf logged on right at 12:00 noon pst and he's been playing ever since. I made the mistake going into the kitchen to make us something to eat, I sat down at 12:20pst and ended up in a queue of 1707 people.
Believing this to be a mistake, I bounced out and back in... 1735.... again... 1759... WHAT??
Now, I'm 211/2424 and it's 3pm pst. My computer has been crashing every now and then in game... I'm waiting to get in, just to crash and have to wait for 7 hours.
I understand queues, I understand wanting to have healthy populations on your servers, I understand swg ghosttown like server populations after initial launch... but to say this was an ill planned launch is an understatement... and to say that 2500 people in a queue is acceptable... is ludicrious.
I wondered if taking yet ANOTHER bet on NCsoft was going to bite me in the kazoo... I'm praying that this bump in the road... this ridiculous wait time is going to be ALL I have to complain about this launch.
No bitchers.
Oh and you can turn it in whatever way you want, laugh at the QQ'ers, but in the end.
They are nyerking a lot of people off with this atm. And if this would continue I guess they will loose some people, but whatever, it's their choice.
2h 20mins to go for me. Dear god, if my internet dies now or I DC i'm gonna rage

I'm with you on those sentiments man.

Yeah, we know why they have server queues, the issue is they should have been able to foresee the numbers they needed to support better than they did and make sure they could at least handle it better than they are... Like I've said on other threads and on other sites, no access to the game is no access to the game, whether it be from the servers crashing or artificial server limits via queues. Either way people are unable to get into the game for several hours... it's unacceptable either way.

"Gamers will no longer buy the argument that every MMO requires a subscription fee to offset server and bandwidth costs. It's not true you know it, and they know it." Jeff Strain, co-founder of ArenaNet, 2007
WTF? No subscription fee?
It is simple ...
Thousands and thousands of paying customers unable to play = fail, big time.
They bragged about the record setting pre orders, will they now apologize for the record setting denial of access that follows from this? You cannot have it both ways, more pre orders than any game means more people being unable to play than any other game with this queue mess.

Here is what makes NCSoft retarded. 400k pre-orders. 10 initial servers to house those 400k pre-orders. Thats 40k people per server. They need atleast 4 times the amount of servers to consider the above scenario. Even having 10k people per server is stretching it for mmos with descent graphics.
I don't really care that they merge servers later. I think the players just don't want to wait around a few days for them to get their act together.
You can't even complain on the forums because you need to make and log a freaking character into the world before you can post.
All the whiners need to read this.
Blizzard gets a free pass because they were new to mmorpg when WoW was released. They had no idea what they were getting into at first. They were only expecting 250K, but sold more copies then they anticipated. It took a while for them to catch up. I'm saying this so you can't bring up WoW.
NCsoft has been a mmorpg veteran for a very long time with Lineage, Lineage2, City of Heroes, and GW but GW doesn't really count. They should of know they didn't have enough servers to handle 400K people wanting to play. So instead of coming out and saying they screwed up, and didn't handle this right, this is their best excuse?

You're working on the assumption that there is data to support that the majority of people who preorder an MMO will log into the headstart. NCSoft has the numbers on how many will usually do that. Most devs do and, surprisingly, most MMOs either have massive lag or ques during the initial release.
Maybe... just maybe... they're working off data and you're working off... well... what the hell are you basing your contention on?
