Well... I made the mistake of pre-ordering this game. It sounded fun, looked fun, was fun.... for the first 20 levels. Now at lvl 22 I find myself stuck doing repeatable mob kill quests (capped out at 100 repeats and trust me, there are a ton of these quests and the reward is only 3x the amount of ex as one mob). I had fun pre-20 but i mean seriously, hitting super grind mode after lvl 20? thats freaking ridiculous.
I have played my share of grinders, Lineage, L2, hell i even play rappelz from time to time, and thats just a constant grind, but it is somewhat enjoyable. this game pretty much seems like a harder asian version of WoW with different graphics and the LIMITED ability to fly. most areas are no fly zones, the fly time is limited. (i know i am only lvl 22 right now but i can only fly for around1-2 minutes at max and if i am not on the ground by the time my wings pop off i take a serious hit, if you fall for a certain amount of time (even if you hit nothing) you also die.
Anyone else sharing the same feelings I have?

Altho I hate grinding... I must say that now it's a blessing!
So many complete idiots and WoW kiddies have overrun the servers at the moment.
At least all these idiots will hit a brick wall soon, start crying and go away within a month.
So for now, the level20+ grind is a blessing!
anybody else feel like you?
the answers that you'll get here will say NO! and will tell you how much better than x mmo this one is.
It's a Korean MMO, so naturally there is going to be a massive grind involved somehow. That's how it goes, I don't know why you were expecting anything different.
Games like that are meant to be enjoyed for the journey, not the destination. Find some friends, join a clan, and just roll with it. Quit watching the XP bar fill up and just play the game (or don't).
I don't want to sound rude- but you are playing an MMO. Grinding is part of the equation, and you will find some of it in any game. In most cases, however, the grind is only as bad as you make it.
I was sick yesterday of some people that kept on talking about how wow is great compared to aion and stuff like that I mean why did you purchase aion if you thin wow is the best? go play it then and leave anyone who doesn't like it alone.
lol, i played wow at release, got a hunter to lvl 60 and sold my account for >500$ and never played it again. wow is a good game regardless of what most people will say. the community is garbage, but the game itself is good. i think people just think everything that should be as good as it or better.
my only concern was that you hit a brick wall post-20. i have also played EQ when it first came out and UO pre-tram so i am used to grinds like i said, i just was not expecting to hit it this soon. the game is fun, the content is somewhat engaging, but 28 more levels of repeat quests seems a little daunting.
I didn't reach that high yet but did you try going in some new map?
finished all the campaign quests i could based off my level. went to both the other new places and they just have repeat quests. that was my main concern. there is a good story line to the game, but the campaign quests post-20 are very limited and EXTREMELY short compared to the pre-20 ones.
You have to remember all MMO's are gridtasic. But some are more so than others and if you can't stand it GTFO.
First day in the headstart and you already 22 ... ok ... a super grinder oh yeah, i will tell you whats the problem, you dont want quests, you want grind task solo that give you good exp., if you really want quests keep reading.
At 22 you gain some infiltration quests, so for make them you should take a rift to the enemy zone, in their zone there are quests also you can do, so are you telling me that you have done all these? im sure you did not.
Or take some friends and go to a dungeon, there is a good one in asmo side with level 25 mobs and quests there.
Grinding mobs or tasks/quests solo is boring in the same way, maybe going to an enemy zone and try to questing there is not very efficient way to level up, but is fun, so ask yourself if you wanna get fun or just level up solo in the most efficient way.
I agree, with the above.
Although the Legion im in most players are over 30+ so tend to talk on vent and not look at chat channels.
When you get to 25 and over thats when your start using your wings more, the whole Abyss is built for flying not the starter zones.

Over level 30 in two days is just mental, thats a lot of gametime.
Having never played a Korean Grinder before i did level 2 characters to 50 in the matrix online and all that consisted of was the same exact mission over and over but in different locations in the city. The only way to spice this up was to party up, or chat on vent or just zone out and listen to some music. I dont mind grinding if its like how the OP described at least its not cleverly disguised like in games such as WoW "go and collect 5 goretusk livers" which have a 1 in 20 drop rate. Or Kill 50 clefthoof, 50 birds, 50 talbuks, then another 150 and then another 150. It might as well say, please go and grind this next level out.
If this grind weeds out some of the spammers currently in general chat then all the better!
Id like to point out that even at my level of 13 you could just grind if you wanted to, other than the campaign quests the other stuff only gives the same amount of XP as killing about 4 mobs does, but for once im enjoying reading them, i like the world its set in and the campaign stuff seems like a decent story. Oh and the game works and actually has all its features right from the get go, which sadly you dont see very much nowadays!
I have to agree with the OP.
Gameplay wise its very similar to the countless F2P and otherwise asian mmos. You are pretty much hiking from hub to hub doing the same few quests over and over usually fighting the same mobs with different colors or names. Every class has exactly the same skills and gear as all others in their class, and everyone is playing for hours and hours to be exactly the same as everyone else.
True being in groups or vent can break up the monotony, but that is true for ANY game. Why not have a game that does not require chatting and instead actually has fun gameplay?
I also understand that part of an mmo is grinding, but you would think that after over 10 years since EQ1 someone with a multi-million dollar budget could think of even MINOR gameplay innovations that would break things up even slightly (i.e. public quests in WAR), sadly not true in Aion.
Frankly no. Saying that this is like a f2p game is like saying WoW, LOTRO, EVE and so on are the same as F2P games. Really hate OP's that start random threads about this.
anyone else feel the Op is just an obvious troll?
It's a normal Asian MMO for sure. Nothing really new or super exciting. The flight and NPC third faction is cool, but that's about it. Granted, it's not as grindy as L2 or anything, but it still leans towards this. There is VERY LITTLE fluff in the game now (IE not leveling/grinding). Yeah, you can PvP, to only grind up the ranks of that.
Not at all.
May not be that obvious for everyone then...
I thought grinding does attract "all these idiots" because it requires little thought?
Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)
Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)
So this is what the mmorpg population has become: When you're not at the cap level before week 1 ends it's a "Super grinder". What happened to the days where people were interested in playing an mmo longer than 1 month?
The game has been released for 2 days now and you're already level 22 out of a cap level of 50.
Sorry, what grind? Oh because you have to do quests that involve go kill XX it makes it an asian grinder? So by that criteria, World of Warcraft, Everquest 2 and Lord of the Rings Online are also Asian grinders?
Im surprised how people are acting as grinding is something new to the MMO industry and its just a "privilede" of Asian games.
Well I have to inform you that when we were doing the nice and long mastery quests in STV or nagrand in WoW we were grinding ! Remember the quests in Blasted lands? We were grinding. The majority of quests in wow are grinding and there is nothing wrong with that. Truth is that WOTLK introduced many non grindy quests...but these are stupidly easy and bore me more than grind, but thats just me.
Its funny that people would love to kill 10 mobs if a funnly looking NPc asks them to but start whining when the have to take the initiative and do the same alone.
MMOs and grind go hand by hand. If you absolutely hate grind there are some nice console games that you can play with friends and avoid grind altogether.
I'm not surprise about the grind, NCSoft is only good to make that type of games, if it's not a asian grinder, they shut it down because no one wants to play their games.
Get a life you freaking Gamer.....no no, you don't understand, I'm a Gamer, I have many lives!!
*Yawn* these titled threads threads tire me out.
Momo sucks, I have proof.
Pretty grand opinion from somebody from Guild Wars, 8 skills is hard work.
It doesn't matter what MMOG on the market you are talking about, every last one of them have a grind. ALL OF THEM. There isn't one that doesn't, PERIOD. What you need to do is hang up the idea of playing MMOGs and go back to your XBox, PS, or what ever console you have and join their player network to do one on one or small group vs group stuff. OP, what you described is you don't like MMOGs at all.
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware
"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."
Quite frankly, besides Fallen Earth and Ryzom, I've never felt like I had to grind in any game.
The grind becomes apparent when the goal of being max level supercedes having fun.
It also becomes apparent when there isn't enough content (quests, interesting things to do) to carry you to your destination.
I really didn't feel Aion was grind-like in the lower levels, but I was busy having fun, instead of trying to level quickly. Luckily, I guess, I never made it to the higher levels.
Well then you dont like the MMOs in general.
I guess you are here to insult people you like MMOs right? Yeah we are the idiots while you are from a superior race of gamers.
You want to use your brain? play an adventure or puzzle game.
You want to improve your skills? Play an FPS or action/platformer.
MMOs are what they are! Dont bash people for liking them, especially when you are in MMORPG.com
Still, Im happy when I see copmanies trying something different like SpellBorn lets say. undortunately Spellborn failed and one of the reasons was that people didnt like the new gameplay. Well I did like it as i do like WoWs or AIONs gameplay!
I hope GW2 you have on your sig to give you waht you wish out of an MMo to stop beeing bitter and insult fellow gamers.
