Cryptic broke game for me.. can't seem to help. I tried FE instead. delighted.

markyturnipmarkyturnip Member UncommonPosts: 837

Cryptic in one of their daily patches somehow broke the game for me - such that I can no longer see it on my PC, even though it claims it is running.

Anyway, after days of no responses, Steam passing the buck, I finally got a gobbledigook reply that suggested they had not even read my original ticket.

I gave up on this game. It is the only game in half a decade that I have not been able to run/play...

So, I got Fallen Earth instead, and it's turned out to be the best decision. FE is a really solid MMO, which really sucks you into a complex large world.

CO was fine for a few hours, but by comparison with FE really does not feel very MMOish. I enjoyed myself while I played - although the daily patches started getting irritating - but do not miss it in the slightest now it has been taken away from me.

By contrast, I find myself tincreasingly absorbed by FE.

Thanks to Cryptic breaking CO for me, I have stumbled across an amazing MMO experience I had previously had no intention of buying.

CO should never have been released.  powers are a mess, not enough content and the game is buggy...

is fe an open pvp game or pve oriented with optional pvp areas?  I might give it a try if they have a trial.

     Heya there Marky!

I'm following suit, bought CO, after playing a bit, I noticed that it wears out quick. I'm now saving up the money to buy Fallen Earth.

FE is probably more the latter, but the PVP has goals - ie you are fighting for control of meaningful things - rather than just killing people. And it's in the gameworld rather than instanced.

The game is currently suffering bad lag problems in populated areas though; hope they fix it, as it really is good atmospheric entertainment when it works.

That's great you are soooooo "absorbed" into FE.  But, what exactly does this have to do with CO?  That's right... nothing.  Comparing Apples to Elephants.

Anyways, after briefly reviewing your posting history, I see exactly what you are doing here.  This "CO patch" stuff smells of falsehood.  I have yet to experience nor read any problems from others with the same issue.  Of course, I purchased my copy from D2D, which I find highly more reliable than how Steam does their stuff.

And, your post history has been nothing more than fanatically praising FE and fanatically bashing CO and Aion.  Yeah... sounds like you got an agenda.  Thus, makes me further believe that everything you've said about CO is false.

Just calling it how I see it.

Game instancing is a personal taste.  You went into CO KNOWING that CO was instance.  So, the "gameworld rather than instanced" statement is moot.

And, the "when it works" statement doesn't bode well for the confidence of the stability of FE's servers.  Sounds to me like they pulled the game out of the oven too early if there's server problems.

Kindly show me my post history massively bashing CO? Because in most forums I have posted in I praised it as good instant fun. And considering that I only got FE two days ago, please show me my post history fantastically praising it before that?

EDIT: Hmm... my CO posts here have been on the more negative end, because I took a position on the respec issue, I grant you.

But I enjoyed the game plenty, and said so in other places - like vn boards. This post was basically me being grouchy about the fact I am now unable to play. (Because I was getting into it)

After giving up looking for help, I accidentally stumbled into FE and have been loving it. That is all.

Ironic and funny since FE has been down for entire day due to broken and untested patches.

Thanks OP for making me laugh. If anyone takes one look at FE official boards. You can see that people like OP just love to complain. Replace all his QQ with FE instead of CO and you won't even see the difference.

What he said is valid, the game lacks in content, I knew there'd be instances, but I didn't know I'd have to sit there and choose one each time I zoned, I'd rather be automatically placed in one, with ones with friends taking highest priority, then ones with supergroup mates, then highest to lowest. I don't think it'd be THAT hard to make a little set of options.

The game is good for a bit of fun, but it's not lasting. That's why I, too, am looking into FE. If you want to check MY post history, you'll see few posts about CO and I also rather enjoy Aion right now,

Apocalyptic, futuristic games are not for me. I want to either use swords and magic or high advanced tech, not a mix of both.

CO has both ofcourse but since it is a Super Hero game it makes much more sense than running around with swords against pistols and rifles.

Isn't that what the little checkbox at the bottom of zone selection is for? It already priotizes the list based on friends, teammates, etc, but I think you can check the little box at the bottom and it will always choose the top one on the list without ever seeing the selection option.

I constantly read of games being buggy yet in the majority I've never suffered one bug. Oh well.

I can tell you Fallen Earth is buggy, and everyone suffers from it at some point. Of course some will make the claim that I did, it's just the way the cookie crumbles.

Champions and Fallen Earth are such different games they really shouldn't be mentioned in the same thread.

  • GrenadierGrenadier Member Posts: 91

Both are great games and I plan on spending a lot of time in both of these games. I don't feel any need to say that one or the other is the better game. Both have their place. When I want to soar over rooftops and do obnoxious things with superpowers then I know which game to play. When I want to feel immersed in a beleivable game world with lots of far reaching and time consuming goals then I know which game to play.

One thing I am abso-freaking-lutely thankful for is that neither of these great games is another rehashed genre clone like Aion.

  • popinjaypopinjay Member Posts: 6,539

There is a lot of instancing in CO. It usually doesn't bug me in most MMOs, but they do it quirky.

Likw if you go to fight Doctor Destroyer in the Robot Factory, it's an instance. This is no big deal in itself, as I like being in one with just my teammates for immersion. No annoying local/zone chat in there.

The part that gets me is the amount of instances within this instance itself, and just how close they are to each other. Going through them isn't really so bad after fighting the mobs each "mini" instance, but after you get to the last room to fight Destroyer, it because apparant and irritating all that zoning you just did.

If you die there in the last room, you have to go through three or four separate loading screens just to end up back where you were, which in most MMOs wouldn't even require one load screen. If the dungeon was super huge then I could understand, but each room or section in there you fight in you can practically spit at the other wall where the next section starts. I mean these rooms are tiny.

So on respawn death at the beginning, you go through a short room and zone. Then go through another short room and zone. Then through another short room and zone. Then you go zone through to the last room where the boss was. It takes less than a minute for all that, but you press "Enter" four times to get back to where you were, getting a nice loading pic each time. If you zone back in while someone is getting AoE at the door from Destroyer, bam! Back to the start, lol. That's just nutso.

Teleios Tower on the other hand has a lot of zoning too, but the rooms are much bigger with more mobs to kill on the way through, so it's not as much click, click, click, click to get back. The zones are more thought out because at the brain fight, if you die you are only one zone back inside.

And ironically the next dungeon I forget the name but it is in canada up in the upper right corner.  Burning something I think.  Anyway it was one of the better dungeons because it has no instances within the instances.  So the first instance you do dr destroyer is without question to worst, telious is better, and burning is best.   Go figger didn't anyone ever explain to these guys about putting your best foot forward.

In any event that's all the dungeons I have done in the game and I won't be doing any more as I got fed up with the issues, and bad updates, and lack of content.  I quit a few days ago and deleted the game from my computer.

See this is par for the course.  This game is completely out of control...

Regarding the OP.. seems the issue was Steam.

I removed CO from my steam files and downloaded the client separately from the CO site.

    So far, so good.

I haven't given up on it yet, I may sub this and AION at the same time but I'll probably be playing AION more as it's more polished. CO has a lot of things I do like but they sure weren't ready for release if you ask me. Probably in a few months will start to settle down.

But that instancing in Destroyer, lol...

Imagine driving down a street from one traffic light to another, but in between each light there is one STOP sign every 10 feet. Or like driving your car in a beach town near the shore where they have all those little stop signs the local-yokel cops put up every couple of stores and the posted limit is 5 mph.

Those aren't really instances within the instances. They are part of the same instance. Even when you use a teleport within the same zone it will throw up a load screen while it gets the textures into memory. It typically takes about 3 seconds on my PC. I don't know what all the fuss is about. Its FAR from being one of the real problems with the game.

To each his own, play what you want to pay for.

AION - felt like another go into WoW just with great graphics.

Fallen Earth - Feels more like an Alpha Game to me, maybe Q3/Q4 2010 it will be more polished.

Champions Online - Currently enjoying, has it's bugs but having fun with my 40.

In response to the OP.. what Operating System are you running?  If you are running Windows 7/Vista I may know your issue and it happened to me on a patch or two in beta.

You can disable instance selection, so that its automatic.  Its a check box right at the bottom of the selection window that pop's up.  If you are grouped it will put you in the same one, assuming its not filled up.

lol seems I'm not the only one. I was looking at CO as a main MMO then decided it's better as a side. The lack of content and finishing that content in less than a month at a casual pace and running into the fact that once you start an alt and pick canada instead of the desert you have now done everything the game has to offer made me look elsewhere. I picked up fallen earth and turned out to be a fun side MMO and may become my main when it gets a bit of tlc.

In any case, if you like CO stick with it the point is to be entertained and if you still are with CO great just don't get bent out of shape that not everyone is still enjoying it. Those that this portion was meant for know who they are.

    Basically,

FE, a lot more depth, complexity and more for the 'hardcore' player...

CO, a failgasm of mediocraty that the masses wil mindlessly accept as quality.  Not to say it doesn't have some fun in it, but it's mostly poo and not worth people's money.
