Perhaps you missed my mention of how easy it is to circumvent the filter?

But if you want to be Mr Junior KKK, feel free, but don't be surprised when they ban your ass.

Interesting enough, I do believe reading somewhere, see If I can find it here, that talks about a language filter in the game. I can understand abou the shouting offensive words ( sorry, that is.. "may be offensive " to some ) over long distances in the game ( zones ) and whatnot, but just running around blah blah, oh #### that was awesome, is common and normal for people to do. Some may not think so, but the majority of people swear, ( including moi ) get over it.

Here is the quote.. Official Link is HERE : http://www.blizzard.com/wow/faq/faq_support.shtml

"Since the game will have a language filter, can we curse/swear as much as we want?
Even though there is a language filter, excessive, unsolicited or inappropriate language will not be tolerated. "

Of course, I would love to see a conversation from some smirk punk and GM go like this...

Smirk little punk : hey! This guy made me mad cause im a little crybaby... he is cursing in general chat....

GM : Turn your language filter on... :) Have a nice day...

Hey, I never use the N word... Not because I find it offensive, but because I generally use other colorful words instead. I just don't like being told what I can and can't say, all because someone's kid might disable the swear filter.

It's the same problem as with parental controls: People expect the computer or television will babysit their children for them with zero consequences. The simple fact of the matter is online, you are exposing your child to the general population - and their ways of life, habbits, language, etc.

From what I read in the forums, and what I think the OP was talking of, gm's seems to be ontop of languange breakers.  If someone reports you; a warning, eventually a ban if that goes on long enough.   But I kinda like ban happy GMs.  Pretty much saying, don't curse in general, at least not too much since there's anal people everywhere.  Filter or not.

I have no problem with people getting band for saying sexist or racist profanity. I also think that it is stupid if you get punished for saying darn AKA D*** or heck AKA H*** or fudge AKA F*** any or other moderate profanities. Just because some idiots have a taboo on the word and think it is vulgar should not make it wrong. All the words are is intensifiers to what you already won't to say. I'm sorry if you take offense by my speech but it is your social upbringing in this politically correct world that caused it to be that way.

In this day its disgusting that as educated people we still find words offensive.

The fact that the 'F' bomb is offensive is high amusing and incredibly stupid in my opinion. Society dictates that to say 'F' bomb such as that is an ok way of explaining the word without saying it, but you all reading get that word in your head. How is it offensive to see uck after it? It means absolutely nothing and the reactions are those of brainwashed robots rather than open minded thinking people who understand that a word has no power.

If I walked up to a person and said GLASS OF WATER in an offensive tone and pointing at him, chances are they wouldnt be too happy, they wouldnt understand, but it should be more about the context than about the actual words themselves. I personally swear, because really, who cares? Its not hateful, offensive, except to those that allow themselves to be programmed to think so.

Regardless, I've probably lost most of you with this post and no one will agree, I believe WoW has a language filter making it so you can turn it on or off, and I doubt they will care unless its people doing stuff like F.*** or **(|< etc trying to get around it.

    Just my two cents.

Who's arguing about swearing? Did I miss some post or something?

There's a vast difference between saying shit, or what have you, and calling someone a n****r, or some other racial slur, including fag and so on. If someone gets in a verbal dispute, and tells the other person to f**k off, at most they might report it, and if the person was unlucky and got a GM that was in a bad mood, they'll at most get a warning, barring a history of harrassing the person or something.

They sit around calling someone n****r, that starts floating into hate speech territory, which it's easier to just ban said asshat, than potentially get drug into a lawsuit.

Ya, there is always a limit to swearing. Sometimes it is acceptable because it is too emphasize a subject or point, but most of the time people jus randomly swear cuz they thing its the cool thing to do...So, if your gonna swear at least swear when it is somewhat decent to do so and not blatant. Spam Swearer's jus ruin the community.
