I agree with your statements above. I wish both sides of the aisle would remember it applies to each. Successful doesn't necessarily equate to "good", or "high quality". Being less successful also doesn't equate to "good, "edgy", "high quality", or "only for those with discerning tastes and an appreciation of the finer things in life."
Succesful in this industry AND society means the equivalent of GOOD and HIGH quality.
Because you are NOT getting 1.2 BILLION dollars yearly revenu out af a game if the game was NOT very good, high quality.

Can't you even see how much that ridiculous personal HATE about a game has taken you of this PLANET ???
You just don't get it do you? I applaud them on having a successful game I however don't like the way they went about making it what it is today. Can you get that through your 14 year old head? I will answer that for you now and say no because you are just one ignorant idiot.
Dude, calm down. Can you not sense just a wee bit of sarcasm. Oh, American Idol is one of the most succesful Television shows in the States- Society thinking its good does not make it so.
So the maker of a very succesful TV series - like Friends - (and I am talking about (WOW) the MOST succesful here) should "not be given another chance".
Right. It shows the person in question stating this should no longer particapte in any serious discussion about the subject.
That's very clear, because he clearly lacks insight.

The question is very valid. It's just that "WoW" seems to be an answer on any and all questions out there. And that's from lovers and haters alike .
I believe that every company should be given a second chance. It's up to you, the consumer, to do your research and decide whether or not you want to invest in a game. If there's even the tiniest chance that a company known to make low quality games could make a good game, which there always is (a minute chance is always there), that chance should be given. Diversity in games is always good, too.
Objectivity is delivered with a lack of personality made for the mainstream but never used for the mainstream.

From me no i have given WoW several chances.
So you're out. Your opinion is worthless then. Stop even thinking of knowing what a good mmorpg would be like.
Because you even lack the most basic insights of what makes up a succesful mmorpg or video game product.
You are just a complete idiot nobody is arguing the success of it get it through your head! All you are doing is saying how successful it is that is it nothing else so till you have an actual defense other then "success" I would have to say is prove me wrong or shut up.

WoW, just WoW- your way too emotionally involved here- Its not like we're calling your girlfriend a whore. Is WoW your first MMO by chance?
The whole point has went completely above your head due to your blind fury and being overly defensive. And to bring up friends? Like that was the epitome of high quality entertainment.
Look, Harry potter will always sell more than William Shakespeare. More people will read "Batman" comics than National Geographic Magazine. More people will watch mindless sitcoms like friends, than meaningful Documentaries.
Ever heard of the Bell Curve? Well statistical averages of intellect, interest, attention span etc. for the populace can be set against the Bell Curve to provide content that will appease the average person. Wow has followed this formula to a science. Newspapers, entertainment, music companies always try to aim for the bare average because thats where most of the populace (their customer base) is.
More people will play Monopoly than Chess. Nuff said, I cannot continue on AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
You are just a complete idiot nobody is arguing the success of it get it through your head! All you are doing is saying how successful it is that is it nothing else so till you have an actual defense other then "success" I would have to say is prove me wrong or shut up.
Well "success" in our society means just that: numbers/dollars/records/achievements.
If Bolt runs the 100 meter dash in under 9.6 that's succes.
That's why sports are so popular: they measure success in quantafied measures. That's what thrives this society btw.
Succes.
And staying with those 100 meters: WOW runs it in 9.6 while the "competition" checks in at 52.3.
They aren't even on the photo finish.
And if it were your say.... "Bolt wouldn't be even allowed to run in the next race... ". See OP thread.
WOW. How blind "anti" - something can one be.
You are just making yourself look like a fool right now just so you know. Success has no play in what I said nore has it ever I just hate the fact that they dumbed it down for retards like you.
I think they should all at least be given a second chance.
From all I've ever heard from friends an their friends and so on, I'm pretty sure the only reason anyone really hates on SOE is basically SWG. And considering a few names in this thread that constantly pm me crying about pre NGE on SWG, it was an old post, SWG is basically dead, or go play on the private servers if your still seriously crying over it to bother me with pm's over it.
As for Blizzard and the rest, do your research when you look into an MMO. Too many people will just jump into an MMO without actually seeing if it fits their MMO style or pace and dive into funding these games with their own money from monthly fees to cash shops.
I've played SWG before and after the NGE, granted SOE bombed that, but theyve also had good ones too. Same with Blizz and rest.
Give em another chance, because you never know, one day you could end up long term in an MMO by a name you used to hate on. Who knows.

The most succesful game in the history of video gaming.

I gave WoW a chance during TBC they failed I left I gave WoW another chance with WotLK they failed again there you happy they had 2 2nd chances but failed both times. Again I don't give a f**k about the success of WoW like I aid before it is filled with kids and immature grownups. I have symapthy for those that attach their name to an mmo . Its a riskey buisness but for my money its Richard Garriott for the Tabula Rasa mess . My perception is he let personal ambition overtake his roll in the success or faliure of Tabuala Rasa . or maybe Gaute Godager who compared Age of Conan as steak to Warcrafts burger yet unless than two years later he has left blaming others for the way the game has gone while he was the man in charge .
Who has the worst name in mmos and should nt be given another chance ?
No one has the worst name to me and they all should be given another change as they are into the entertainment industry, nothing life threatening about what they do, so like I said none has the worst name to me, obvious there are some names I will question the next time they might make a game, but they still deserve a change regardless the past as the past is the past and one "can" improve on that. Okay it seems from a certain perspective that the improvements are very slim
Unless I myself can do better then them in this industry I feel I lower my opinion on them as they have proven experiance regardless if it's good/bad, where most forum posters merly have playing experiance and sure we can make up in our minds the perfect game, but thanks to many of the names mentioned here in this topic we could be a little more thankfull. But then again that aint popular on forums like this............unfortunaly.......

Ok, Zorndorf, stop trying to back up your points with useless inconsequential drivel. Especially, when its wrong. 1st, you are from Belgium, so most the people you are arguing with don't have the same "society" as you. Trust me, points of view and values are going to be different. 2nd, even if you moved to America, doesn't mean you have fully adopted the same societal belief system. Hell, even most the people on this board, who are from America, don't even have that in common. So don't speak in absolutes. You cannot say that any group of people, especially a group that you are not in, define anything in one particular way. To do so is arrogance.
Success, in my opinion, and so often demonstrated in America, is based mostly on who you know and how much you can get away with before being called on it. That has been my experience, much to my disillusionment.
But take comfort, Zorndorf. For you are correct in your original point. Calling Blizzard a company unworthy of a 2nd chance at new game development is insane. They are a quality developer with a track record releasing decent, stable games that cater to a majority of people, even if that majority is not what we are. The more hardcore gamer. They knew what they were after and they went right for it. And in their eyes, and the eyes of many, are successful. They have many players and have made a lot of money.
For many people, Blizzard's World of Warcraft was successful. I played it for a few months and left it, to me it was a failure. As it failed to keep my interest. I, however, was not their target demographic. That's what many people on this board fail to understand. You, out there, dear reader, are NOT who Blizzard was looking for.
So success and failure is largely based on point of view. This is all I am trying to say. So what you should take away from this, as my meaning, is just...for most people who have played WoW, it was a success, for most who were MMORPG gamers before WoW, it was a failure. It was both.
That being said, I also agree with those that have seen the waves of corruption that have weakened our beloved genre. The foul stink of it snuffing the life out of many games that have come after. And to this I say, you are both right and wrong as well. It may just be, that the developers of MMORPGs are no longer interested in people like us as their prime customer base. It may just be, that we are now the ones who are irrelevant. As the mainstream becomes more and more internet savy and interested in online games as their entertainment, this was bound to happen. Most of us can remember gaming online in MUDs before most people had ever heard of the internet. Hell, its wasn't even called that, when I first started playing them.
Things change.
To the point of the thread. In my opinion, as if it matters, most probably haven't read this far, Blizzard does not qualify as a developer unworthy of being considered when creating a project. If they came out with a new product, with features targeted more towards my interests, I would be very excited.
Some have mentioned Mythic. They created my favorite MMORPG of all time thus far, DAoC. WAR had some great features but was buggy and ultimately flawed in design. I see what WAR could have been. And I think, well, I am willing to give them another shot.
Some have mentioned SOE. Hmmm....a much closer consideration to blanket denial of purchase/play. But I look at what they have done, most of their crap is someone else's crap. They are just running it now. The only game of theirs, that was designed by them as far as I know, is Everquest 2. And that's, once again in my opinion, a solid game. I enjoyed it a good long while and would consider going back. The original Everquest, SWG, Planetside, Vanguard, Matrix Online, and pretty much all the other games that were/are on their Station Pass came from some other production house. And its a matter of opinion as to if SOEs development made the game better or worse. In my opinion on these games, they failed to make them better, but most were crap before they got to SOE, with the exception of the original Everquest and Vanguard. Both which were not bad before SOE got them, but were not really made any better either. All this being said, anything with SOE involved gets a good long look, a lot of research done, and I probably won't play on release, but will wait till I hear what the community has to say about it. But they still have a chance, a wary one at that.
Turbine seems a solid contender for no 2nd chance. If it were not for Lord of the Rings Online I would dismiss them entirely. But they managed to put out one solid game, so they don't get the no 2nd chance STAMP.
The closest for me, would be Funcom. I was at release for both Anarchy Online and Age of Conan. And damn if they didn't both absolutely suck at release. Features promised and not implemented. Horrible launches, with days of unplayability. Just all around bad news, thus the change of their name by many gamers to Failcom. Some say their games become good over time, well, I will never know....I won't be looking.
So, at long last, if I were to name a company unworthy of a 2nd chance...it would be Funcom. I know this wasn't even the original intent of the OP, he wanted specific names. For me, that is an even longer post so I will spare you. Hell, if you read this far I am impressed. Thanks for listening.

Studios need to be able to build on past successes, as well as learn from past mistakes. If you're expecting a studio to get everything right the first time, then the true failure is your own.
If you don't like a game, don't play it. I know Funcom has screwed things up in the past, but am I going to let that stop me from giving The Secret World a try? Hell no, that would just be stupid on my part. If the game is worth playing, I'll play it, regardless of the studio it came from.

There is a difference between making mistakes and cheating your customers. It is the latter that I will not tolerate.
I don't expect anyone "to get everything right" - ever. I require that they deal fairly with me.
It's time for MMO players to stop acting like abused wives in denial.

Much as I would like to try out Secret World because it seems interesting from what I have read I'm not dealing with that company ever again.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

One word >>>>JOYMAX.
Now after all these years ,they are sending out plea bargains asking old players to believe they are cleaning up the game...ya right BS.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
SOE
The Management and staff of all gaming studios is always in flux, moreso now than ever before likewise, developing teams are often completely independent of the distributor - its really ludicrous to dismiss studios globally - each project needs to be considered on its own merits, its really not a good thing to condone or encourage sweeping generalisation of anything.
Errr guys, Blizzard!=WoW
It's gotta be Smedley for me too.
I can't think of anyone else in the genre who has done something so utterly contemptible as the debacle that surrounds SWG.
Playing: EVE, Final Fantasy 13, Uncharted 2, Need for Speed: Shift
Brad Mcquaid, but hey, I'd still give him another chance.

Funcom
Much as I would like to try out Secret World because it seems interesting from what I have read I'm not dealing with that company ever again.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
