Nothing wrong if he made a thread for it not saying same shit in every thread that praises aion.

And why should I keep on saying why his "facts" are wrong? everyone knows apart of him that not everyone uses xfire while playing so xfire's charts are useless.

Ummm yea.  I turned xfire off from previously using it because of that....can I count now too?

Though it seldom happens, I am in agreement regarding Zorn in this matter.

The thread was started by the OP quoting statistics that are questionable and unsubstantiated to "prove" that Aion is a smash hit.  Consider it a gauntlet thrown down daring people to challenge the assertion.

So that's exactly what Zorn and others have been doing, challenging the unproven assertions with what "facts" exist out there.

Again, NCSoft could resolve the conflict by publishing their subs, but like I said, i don't think the are very proud of the numbers. (because in the past, they had no problem reporting their L1/L2 Subs)

From what i read, please correct me if im wrong, all he's trying to do is to correct players from keep saying that Aion have 3.5m in asia subs which so far also is not official.

I understand that xfire is not accurate, in that not all players use it, neither do i, but its quite close given the stats.

Hype generate base on un-solid ground is bad, trying to mislead other players, and since this so call 700k SALES is also baseless, though it buffers me why some players would play a game just because its popular, its also good, imo, to refute it...

So it's ok according to you to replace one source of (lets assume) questionable results, ie the newspaper journalist, with another source of questionable results, ie, the anonymous mmorpg.com poster?

He can't predict the amount of subscriptions Aion (or any other game for that matter), because he doesn't have the data to do the calculations. All he has is the amount of EVE subscribers. He needs the percentage of EVE subscribers that use xfire and the percentage of whatever else MMO that use xfire as well. Up until Aion, he wrongly assumed that the percentage of people who use xfire while playing any MMO is the same. Aion was the first of them where there was such a significance difference between the percentages, that he started with the conspiracy theories first, then I gave him the idea that Aion is also sold by xfire as well.

Bottom line, he cannot predict subscription numbers via xfire with the data he has available. He can however predict trends, so by saying that Aion dropped a certain percentage, I do believe it to be true.

It all comes down to believing an anonymous poster of a forum over a journalist whose name is available for all to see and scrutinize.

The company started with 12 servers each in the U.S. and Europe at the start of Aion's commercial service last month, but was operating 14 servers in the U.S. and 16 servers in Europe a week later. This indicates that the game was getting as much as 150,000 concurrent users in those markets."

Great to see a Korean game like Aion achieving all this worldwide success.

Half those players no longer play the game.

Theres a lot of speculation on this post, but so far the OP was the only one who bothered to do his research.

Careful... words like that will get you instantly called a "fanboi" (no matter what your opinion on the game is)....

And then many flames will be followed... just fair warning. Anyone who gives Aion any praise is either blind or Korean (according to most forum posters on this cess-pool of a community)...

Well maybe Zon can explain why his fabled game WOW dropped by 30-40% on xfire? he still hasnt answered why this has happened. But he talks about about Aion's drop in xfire like the world is about to explode.

If Aion's server are full and everyone is enjoying the game, who gives a crap about xfire anyway?

Awfully subtle backhand to the masses lol.  But oh yes Ive seen it time and time again.  Me being one who enjoys most every game I pickup in some aspect, I get flamed a lot.

Why keep making these boast threads?

    Obviously it's a flame starter.

Why would I not be surprised if half the people who criticize the success, rather than the product itself for lack of substance, are in fact no more than WoW carebears?  Then maybe one or two others are probably some angry WAR and AoC fanbois who honestly believe Aion is on the same category as the two.

In all honesty, I've played both AoC and WAR.  Those two aren't even comparable to Aion, disregarding the fact Aion doesn't have substance, WAR and AoC have had one of the worst launches, and still clearly have many problems.  The polishness of Aion alone blows WAR and AoC out of competition.

As for me, I don't play Aion anymore, but if anything, stop whinning about the lack of substance.  The developers they themselves explained in an interview back an year ago, that Aion is nothing original, but a mix of contents and systems from various MMOs.

And Honestly, what serious gamer even uses xfire?  I thought xfire was a joke.  It's full of 15 year old nutcases.  Installed xfire once, and uninstalled it in 5mins.  Never installed xfire once again, and I don't see the need for it compared to ventrillo.

And now you are guilty of the same thing you accused the OP of in the second line.

Your logic is not present in even a small amount, yes you don't like Aion that's an opinion, yes you don't like xfire another opinion.  Neither change the fact that information, especially in this forum, will always fall into a flame fest.  Unless of course the posters do their research and post sources, even then you will find something to complain about.

The OP here found a valid article and posted it onto these forums, trolling him for doing so is childish. Of course I seriously doubt some of you noticed that the article linked in the original post listed their sources as well.

    www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/biz/2009/10/123_54507.html

This isn't a thread about wether or not Aion is worth the numbers it has generated, or its lack of content/substance if your of that persuasion.  It's a thread about congratulating a foreign mmo on achieving such large numbers in the US, as the OP he dictates the content of the supposed conversation.

If 700k boxes sold is a smash hit, then pretty much every single triple A game from PC, console, to hand held is as well.  All big budget games sell like that and usually more when it comes to initial sales.  To the sales team at NCSoft this game has been a huge success.  They've done their job, they've gotten initial sales and probably already made profit which is really all that matters to companies like this.  The real story when it comes to MMOs is how well it's doing later on in the games life.

Thanks for the heads-up, NCsoft just released their Q3 earnings yesterday (Nov 6).

Personally I never expected Aion to sell this much during the 1rst month. 700,000 was already very good considering the odds that were stacked against it, but seems like it's closer to the 1M mark.

Nice to see KAion and CAion doing this good, especially KAion, to still sell that many boxes after a year is impressive.

Things to take into consideration though: In Korea and China, bots are not that big an issue to the players. Also, the cryengine.dll crashes don't happen. So the only 2 game-breaking issues in Aion (IMO) are non-issues over there.

EDIT: The relative grind is not very welcome in NA/EU either, contrary to our Eastern friends.

Just saying that to gain the same amount of success over here, NCwest needs to be on the ball, all the time. It's going to be a LOT harder.

    1. Bots are not welcome over here
    2. cryengine.dll crashings are happening
    3. Grinding mobs to level and having loads of time-sinks don't fit in well with the majority of players
    4. NA/EU players are extremely demanding. They complain about everything and want instant changes, most of them don't give second chances. They'll just cancel and "go back to WoW" or any other MMO.

Let's hope NCwest gets rid of those problems and others before it's too late (in NA/EU).

Soooo, what about the 10k drop from Wow that I have seen in the past couple weeks? Just so you know, some major single player pc games dropped these couple weeks. I'm not subbing to any mmo while I kick ass in dragon age and shoot stuff in the face in borderlands.

    BOOYAKA!

I do not put a stock into most any of these numbers WAR boasted one million in sales and latter we found out they never sold a million copies was more around 900k if that.

Even if you sell a million copies this is the MMO game not the console where the original sale of the game is not the over all number you are looking for its the subs a month that is what your success is based off of.

Let us see where the sub numbers are in half a year and a year for this game my bet is they wil be right their with all the other craptastic games put out over the last year or so AOC,WAR,CHAMPIONS, darkfall, MO.

    Proof?
    Europe:: 470.000 Boxsales
    U.S: 500.000 Boxsales
Aion West has officially 970.000 Boxsales together since release
Source is NC Softs own 3rd Quarterly Earnings report accessible to everyone on their official page.
Ah, but what are the sub numbers? Oh, still don't see that anywhere.  Besides, as mentioned, these are boxes shipped, AOC played the same shell game too.
But dont worry: Now that the trolls cant claim there wouldnt be any "official sources" anymore, they will claim these numbers must be "oversampled" and "made up" by NC to "hype" Aion and post us their "facts and analysis" to "prove" us how these numbers are "technically impossible" or how they "dont mean anything" like we are used to ;)
Your official sources posted misleading info and failed where it most counted, in actual sub numbers.

    So what's your point zondorf?

250k (probably a bit more) is still a good number of people playing near war and aoc failures.
