Wrong, what you don't like people pointing out that you are wrong and that hurts your feelings so much! You said "do your research..." what research? You mean the ones where QoL say "no, it isn't ripped off" that isn't research. A picture is worth a thousand words, take a look then tell me they aren't ripped off. And no, it's not like they took mods from WoW, it's like they took the base WoW UI assest and made them into a hard coded including the art work for a Key Ring, which the game doesn't even have code to use. (I took about their .pak folder to look for the keyring bag artwork/xml files and they are no where to be found.)
There I cleaned that up as to not confuse you this time around (took out the other poster). You do have to admit you proved me right on my warning there. All I did was post the warning - wasn't even the one I quoted it on, and you still jumped up and down and went round and round like a dog chasing his tail on me. Started spitting stuff about how I said this and said this (oh yeah, that wasn't me man, really - it was some other dude - you were just so worked up you didn't even bother to read the names - just went off again). But that’s ok, you sure proved to everyone here that you are an objective conversationalist who values open debate on a given topic (yes sarcasms’ intended).
And just for the record, I don’t play, or plan to play Alganon -I did play WoW from beta though - and yes I do see similarities, but that’s it. Assuming more than that, without actually breaking down the code itself, will prove nothing but your prone to assume.
Do you in fact have any proof they stole the WoW UI other than your assumptions based off screenshots or what you visually equate to them being the same thing? I would hope you do, after all your threads on this in the past week include allegations of plagiarism, ripped off game code, down to straight theft of another game. Most of that borders on slander if the owners of Alganon wished to pursue you for legal action on defamation of character towards themselves and the game in the event you are wrong. I’m not saying your wrong, but I am asking if you have any viable proof other than your opinion and word that it “must” be the facts because you say it “must”.
A picture is worth a thousand words, but then again, looks can be deceiving too. (see, I can play on words too )
(DISCLAIMER - The use of the word YOU in the above post is not directed at any one person in particular, but towards those who fall into the category itself - there is no personal attack here, neither intentional nor implied.)
Of course they ripped off Blizz. Every game rips off Blizz. Even the games released before WOW are WOW clones. Now OP, go grind some dailys or buy a cool pet.
The UI in Alganon is a complete ripoff, plain and simple. If some of you continue to accept this fact then you are lock step in line with the rest of the drones that will swallow any regurgitated MMO that comes your way. Like Hollywood remakes, if not done right it's more of an insult than a acceptable effort. And I'm one that follows small indie developers closely in hopes of finding the right mix of innovation and creativity to throw my money behind.
I would love for a small indie company to "get it right" and show the big boys how they should be doing things. But taking basic concepts of all MMOs and slapping on the cosmetics of a 5 year old game in hopes of easing wandering/burned out/neophyte ex-wow players into their game is NOT showing the creativity that goes along with the innovation I seen in Alganon's development team so far (and this is not something I'm willing to overlook).
So I gracefully bow out of this year's round of indie developed titles in hopes of finding one next year that puts enough effort in their game to separate themselves completely from the drum of appealing to ex-wow players. At least I'll avoid those developers trying to cosmetically appease them......

Are we talking about the hotbar? Am I missing something here? I like WoW's hotbar, their UI is the one of a very few that actually makes interaction with the game feel natural. Most UIs have a horrid timing where you pound on a key or button and your toon gets around to it when he has time. Bleh, I feel mostly like I'm watching things happen in other games instead of making them happen. But seriously, this ramped up about a UI? I'd be pissed if they stole a crappy UI. Like WAR's.
This is completely worth getting worked up over, I'd write a Congressperson.
Nah I'm not getting worked up as much as you would like to think. I just wanted to point out to my fellow poster above my screenshots that his level of infringement and what my level is, differs greatly between us. No, my reasons for my passionate rant about Alganon run a little deeper than merely their use of a "borrowed" UI game design. I'm currently playing the beta and after 15 levels of similarities I've had my fill. Maybe things will get better with time, but as it stands the game is NOT ready for release and not functioning as well in it's current state as I'd hoped for. But that's for a different topic.
Honestly, if other players are fine with Alganon and Runes of Magic (two of the closest MMOs that mimic WoW in both graphics and some gameplay aspects), then I'm not one to interrupt their enjoyment. I simply refuse to tolerate such thoughtlessness from developers that are clearly trying to cash in on another MMO's visual presentation.
"Small minds talk about people, average minds talk about events, great minds talk about ideas."
Both this thread and the other you started are nothing but mere trolls- esp considering how fast you posted both and how they could have easily been merged. Along with this past week's hoax plagiarism thread... Do your research on the dev team's efforts, and you'll find their efforts have been sincere. I personally think the game looks like crap (no PvP what?) but don't knock an honest effort. And similarities run rampant in this genre, so there's nothing to see here about that either. Call it what it is: a development honest effort, but game that doesn't warrant much attention.
Hello retard, how are you? You can't edit a poll. Opps! Sincere effort? I will show you a sincere effort:
And? WoW took many things, including major UI elements from other games, and dozens and dozens of games since have used the same things, including nearly identical UIs since WoW. wtf is the point in debating over Alganon doing the same?
And? WoW took many things, including major UI elements from other games, and dozens and dozens of games since have used the same things, including nearly identical UIs since WoW. wtf is the point in debating over Alganon doing the same?
^^^^^^^ Yeah, that.
I really don't understand people on these forums, perhaps it is something in the water? Yes, Blizzard borrowed many ideas for World of Warcraft. We can all agree on that. Here is the issue though -- even though they borrowed those parts, they also changed them to fit into their game and their system. The people over at Quest Online took Blizzard's ideas about how a UI should appear and rather than changing minor things to fit into their game, they simply stripped some of the art out and threw it into their game.
I am not sure why this is hard to understand. Anyone with two eyes can see that the UI presentations are nearly identical to each other. That doesn't just happen. Perhaps people have just grown used to the typical copy pasta of F2P games and so they just shrug it off. I won't play the game, it simply isn't up to par in many aspects with what I expect from a late 2nd generation MMO. More companies should take a lesson from Blizzard -- learn from other games, borrow aspects from other games, improve them and package them in a unique way. Yet, more companies are content to just borrow and repackage and that is a shame -- there will never be innovation as long as players shrug their shoulders and let companies get away with giving you the exact same game with a different name.
I wonder where WoW's UI came from cause it certainly wasn't Blizzard's idea.
If it wasn't Blizzard's idea, I would love to see the game it was taken from. I think a lot of people would, because it seems like a mysterious game that no one has ever seen or heard of.
I have seen the EQ1 UI, I have seen the AC2 UI, I see some borrowed ideas from both but I don't see a UI that looks remotely the same. Yet, I keep reading about this UI that Blizzard stole, yet no one can seem to produce any evidence it exists.
I would even say that Blizzard borrowed several UI elements from their own games:
It doesnt matter where did WoW UI come from, the fact is that no one can point a UI equal to WoW's on a game launched before.
I still dont get it why ppl give so much credit to this situation, i mean, the game is horrid in so many senses.
Besides, if this people couldnt even come up with something as simple as a UI without making it exactly the same as other game, i wonder, doesnt this show how ridiculous are this developers, and how weak is the game?
Really guys, just move forward and forget this trash

I don't think Blizzard's UI was a direct rip off from anyone in particular. Like most developers, they took things they believed worked well and built on those things. All I was saying, is that VERY LITTLE of what we're seeing in today's MMOs, is totally original. All developers build on things they see that are WORKING for the players. I think they all want their games to be as accessible and streamlined and functional as possible.
Now...as far as Alganon goes....I just simply don't care. lol I mean, play what you play and why worry about what some other game is doing? If they're doing something out of line, truly....I'm QUITE SURE Blizzard will set them straight, IF they feel a need to do so. Why should any of US really care? I don't really have the time to police the entire gaming industry, do you? (That comment is directed at everyone in the thread, not just you. )
I guess it's just not...I don't know...important to me. Sorry. I understand that is IS important to some people, and I don't mean to piss on their proverbial parades or crusades, or w/e.

Exactly!
I think we'll see more and more of crap posts like this. Unfortunately for many (younger) people WoW is their first MMO, god forbid, and we end up with tat like this everywhere...
Question says it all. If you don't think it was ripped off, why not?
You're asking if the WoW UI has been copied by another franchise. That is extremely ironic since almost every aspect of WoW has been copied/styled or just out right stolen from some other already well established source.
Newsflash: Developers who want to put out a successful game sometimes draw inspiration from popular and successful games of the time.
Newsflash: Creating a carbon copy of the UI is not the same as drawing inspiration.
WoW is a complete ripoff of Warhammer. Where is your outrage now fanboy?
WarCraft (as in, the original RTS game from the 90's) was originally supposed to BE a Warhammer game, but they couldn't get the license. No one is asserting that Blizzard designers created everything (or anything, really) from scratch, but they at least put more effort into creating their own product than Algalon's nearly literal "copy + paste" approach.
Important facts: 1. Free to Play games are poorly made. 2. Casuals are not all idiots, but idiots call themselves casuals. 3. Great solo and group content are not mutually exclusive, but they suffer when one is shoved into the mold of the other. The same is true of PvP and PvE. 4. Community is more important than you think.
Not having seen it (I passed on my invitations to Alganon's beta) but having read an interview where the devs admitted to borrowing heavily from WoW because it works it wouldn't surprise me if it was very similar. I don't get that they were really trying anything new game mechanics wise and it's more their social networking system is where they plan to try to separate themselves from the rest.
"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."
I don't get your point? that things shows no proof of wow being a copy of war. Just look at the released war game, wow and war have very different gameplay.

I'm not sure but I think Advanced D&D ripped it off back in the day. You had to arrange the cardboard cutouts though to change your hotbar back then.

Damn Alganon for stealing the AC2 UI, I mean for stealing the WoW UI stolen from AC2.
To change AC2's UI from this:
It took more effort for Blizzard to make this:
Than Quest Online to get to this:
