Frankly, I have a hard time remembering any post that maligned the game beyond reasonable limits and lied outright about it. People had high hopes for this game, and they were disappointed. They had the right to vent out their frustration. If you ignore the obvious lulz posts, most criticism I've read had something going for them.
The game is changing, but DFO lost its sweet spot in the collective gamer's mind. In such a dynamic and competitive market, there's little wriggling room for mistakes (check AoC and Vanguard, for instance). You must get it right, and fast.
I play with a large community of gamers (some 75 strong), some going back to UO times. All of them know about DFO. Some 5-7 bought it and played it, as scouts. None of them remain today. Even if you show them the advances that happened lately, they would rather work as crash test dummies than played DFO again. I don't know if I agree with that, but I certainly can understand their reaction.
Gamers know about DFO. PVP gamers, in special, know about it. They simply reject what they consider a bad product.

I swear it is like you people come here to downrate this game no matter what. You see a good post about Darkfall and you just have to beat it to death with your negativity. Do you foam from the mouth too?
Game is making more subscriptions now and Expansion is not even out yet, but now "it lost its sweet spot in gamers competitive market" and that "Gamers know about Darkfall they simply reject it because is a bad product".
Don't become so obsessive in expecting Darkfall to fail. The game is now past that and it's picking up. Most people haven't even heard of it. The forums following never was above 3.000 to 8.000 people, all those years, and the MMO market is huge it consists for of more than 18.000.000 people. Know how to count? Count the zeros or do you think that yours supposedly "75 strong community" consist the majority of the MMO people who log to internet looking for Online games?.
Lastly you people should require some help for those obsessions of yours IMO.

Aventurine has no credibility at all. For the whole time when Darkfall was being made, they kept repeating that this game is not going to be for everyone, that this is gonna be a niche game, for “hard-core gamers”, mmo-veterans etc. And you know what? This is actually true...
But now they launch a program that supposes to bring them totally random players? All ppl interested in this kind of mmo-gamplay that DF has to offer ware following the game for years, the target audience of this game is very well aware of its existence, so what is this campaign for? To inform some bored WoW players about this game? To interest “the care bears” in Darkfall?
Laughable.
How about a trial? To present what the game has to offer before they charge for it?
I was recently at a bar about 2 weekends ago with some buddies of mine and met up with a few of their friends. Of the 15 or so people that I was with (all of whom play or played MMOs, mostly UO, DaoC, and WoW), only 3 of the 15 heard of Darkfall, two of which didn't even know it had launched.
Now, after going over the game mechanics (full loot FFA PvP, sieging, naval combat, etc) and what the upcoming expansion is bringing (I won't go into details), do you know how many of those 15 people seemed to become excited about it? 12 of the 15, with the only people who didn't seem interested being the 3 who still are into WoW (who would have guessed?)
Do you know how many of those 12 now play Darkfall? 7 people. Do you get my point yet? There are a LOT of people who don't know about Darkfall or have heard misinformation about it, which means that there is the potential for a lot of new people to join the game.
Point is, people are getting sick of all the themepark bullshit out there. I can't tell you how many people went off to try Aion thinking it was going to be the next best thing since sliced bread, only to quit before the first month was even over. People are looking for a game like a Darkfall, whether they know it or not, and that's the point.
Well, I actually waited several years for Darkfall to release, but I won't buy it now. I refuse to be ganked repeatedly the way most reviews talk about the community doing. Hey, I'm all for FFA PvP, but when I can't enjoy the other features the game offers because I'm too busy running back and forth as I continue to die from some low life who camps newbs, then why should I even play?
So yeah, great promotion, but I won't be convinced to sign on under any of you guys. I guess that's an incentive for the Darkfall community to reign in the full-time gankers, so other people have a chance to play the game.

I've been playing the game for about a week now and I've only been PK'd once. I've died countless times in PvE, however.
A new guild formed on Darkfall that makes it easy for newer players to get acquainted better in to the game.
Mods even put it on their spotlight section on the forums where ONLY development related stuff is allowed to be posted there by AV people.
Which game developer has ever done that?
They probably are working out a friendlier system for newer players to get acquainted in to the game but they probably feel it should be carefully designed to not affect the gaming experience of older players, which is a very wise consideration if you ask me.
Let me phrase this move by AV in another way, rather than posting Ads on various website like most MMOs do (which cost a decent amount of money) and also by considering the fact the many forums are filled with DarkFall trolls, Aventurine is more likely to make money with this "Community Publishing Program" as players will recommand the game to people they know (in most case) rather then some "lulz darkfail failz" trolls who clearly have no idea what to talk about anymore.
But hey, That's to be expect from a community that overhype every single new game, pre-order them and then finally realise (despite the obvious) that the game is the same old same old (as polished as the game may be.....Aion anyone?) and then start talkshitting about how horrible everything is and how only he knows how to make a real business work and other companies are worth shit for not listening to him.
Yeah.......
Better for AV to advertise through Community Publishing Program rather than some publicity on a website. Chances are that they will get a lot more dedicated players this way.
Looking for games like Darkfall? That's laughable, ha you made a funny!
Prefer Pre-CU or playing good old fashioned single player RPGs, the best RPGs ever made for PC. None of that Oblivion crap. Players don't deserve a game without restrictions. If it's not obvious yet it will become as such. Look how many of the retards post on this forum like crazed zealots. Already bomb forums with unwavering stupidity. You people even sound like suing him? OMG!
The guy just made a decision to advertise through banner ads. Lots of companies do it.
What's wrong with you?
Do you realize that you sound like those RIAA and MPAA trolls who try to control everything everywhere on the internet?
Are you going to make it a fulltime job to troll Darkfall everywhere?
In such a case, do you work for another publisher or promotional scheme etc etc.? Any other agendas behind?
What's so scary to you some of you people about Darkfall? Seriously??
I won't playing the Vivendi (Hollywood) sponsored bullshit, either it be Star Trek Online or WoW
I WILL BE PLAYING DARKFALL and lots more people will.

As unusual of a move as this is, AV might end up snagging a lot players that would have otherwise never heard about Darkfall.
It's really only going to make DF even more popular around here when you think about it. Should be an interesting couple of months
"Mr. Rothstein, your people never will understand... the way it works out here. You're all just our guests. But you act like you're at home. Let me tell you something, partner. You ain't home. But that's where we're gonna send you if it harelips the governor." - Pat Webb
Yeah I can't wait now for the DF fans to start spamming me like gold sellers all over the net trying to use any half baked lie in hopes of finding a few suckers to get em a slice of the pie.
Really though I would have liked to have seen this started up when the game was more rounded with more appeal than just being pvp fodder. At first glance though it looks like a decent enough idea from Tasos and AV but only time will tell how it plays out in the end.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
Now if AV offered a trial (that could only be used in conjuction with this offer) it would make more sense. Granted, it would also follow a very similar structure to other MMO's "refer-a-friend" offers as well
1) Send invite/trial to a friend
2) If they BUY the game using the same account (ie upgrade the trial to a full account) then you get credited with the full $10-$11
This would work (and be more likely to increase the gaming population), as people are more likely to take up a trial offer for a game, then dump the cash upfront to buy the game, and then realise that they dont like it.
Hell even if you are all in the same group, and like the same style of game, there can be somethings that TOTALLY throw you off and make you realise that you dont like (could be something as petty as a crappy UI, whilst the rest of the game is wonderful)
The main advantage of this though, is that it *does* allow you to do the "hey try this game for x days, for no charge at all... if you dont like, at least you can say you tried it". THAT i think would definately make it possible for people to get their friends involved in the same game as them.
TBH, I dont play Darkfall... i would *love* to give it a try (although apprehensive about it, seeing as it seemed to have been quite a cluster^&*k at the start), but the lack of trial is seriously offputting for me. I dont want to spend cash on a game and then realise that it sucks balls (and have no comeback for a refund on it...).
But the number of trials/Demos of games that i have played though means that at least i can say:
I have tried the game and:
I) I loved it
II) Will get it when its cheaper... i feel that it doesnt warrent the price that they are charging
III) Nope, nice try, but just not for me
IV) WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT PIECE OF $*1T.. arrrgh, my computer will never be clean again, and i cant unsee what i have SEEN!
Yeah, although i think the game would fall into category IV for me, i *AM* intrigued by it and a trial would at least mean i can comment on how good/bad/brilliant/crap the game is.
tl;dr version
If they did a trial *AS WELL* as this paid referral (hell "refer a friend" by any name, this just rewards you with cash and not gametime), then i can see it possibly doing well....
However, this actually requires you to convince your friends/people to try to game... they still need pay the game to see what it *actually* is like... and just rewards the person whose link you follow. YOU (the person who was referred) still has to pony up the cash just to see what its like... THAT part needs to be eliminated... so AV get a trial system out as well, and i think you will see this scheme be more succesful...
Just because its an original idea you didnt come up with
No, it's an idea I would have rejected. You do realize he's opened himself up for many things, including child labor laws. By paying cash, he's effectively made everyone who participates an employee.
You people even sound like suing him? OMG!
Why would I sue him? I'm not the one getting paid to advertise for him, so I'm not an employee.
The guy just made a decision to advertise through banner ads. Lots of companies do it.
Name one compnay that pays CASH MONEY for their players to advertise their game.
What's wrong with you?
Not a thing. You?
Do you realize that you sound like those RIAA and MPAA trolls who try to control everything everywhere on the internet?
No, I sound like someone who has seen how laws can work when you don't think your money making plan through before implementing it.
Are you going to make it a fulltime job to troll Darkfall everywhere?
Are you going to pay me to do so? I'll require a 1099 from you first.
In such a case, do you work for another publisher or promotional scheme etc etc.? Any other agendas behind?
Nope.
What's so scary to you some of you people about Darkfall? Seriously??
Scary about Darkfall? Nothing. Now if you want to hear some of the laughable things, let me know.
I won't playing the Vivendi (Hollywood) sponsored bullshit, either it be Star Trek Online or WoW
I care why? I don't plan on playing those either.
I WILL BE PLAYING DARKFALL and lots more people will.
You will? I don't doubt it. "Lots more people will"? That I have serious doubts about.
I think the publishing idea is a smart move, not a desperate one. Gives players an investment in bringing more people to a game, people spend a lot of there time promoting the game and playing the game, and this just rewards them. Network marketing is making a big wave right now.
and you are taking all this time and pain to check, to read, to reply, to re read, to reply again , to re-check fatcs, to appear with a valid argument/s etc etc. and all that because?
It seems like an awful waste of time for someone who does not like this game as YOU claim to be.

Don't bother too much. I think he clearly proved himself unable to make any type of valuable arguement based on something more than "Darkfall Sucks". (i.e Troll)

Um, doesn't take long at all to post. And I happen to be doing other things at the moment. You're just a side-quest, so to speak.

Yes, because that was clearly my entire argument.
Might want to aim that can backwards, pal. Oh, unless you can show from my above posts where I said "Darkfall sucks" as my argument.

I vulagrized your post (you know?).
But basically when you start writing these and I quote:
"Scary about Darkfall? Nothing. Now if you want to hear some of the laughable things, let me know."
"You will? I don't doubt it. "Lots more people will"? That I have serious doubts about."
It can be argued that what you are saying is (again, I'm just generalizing) "DarkFall is so bad people will leave or won't bother"
Yet, if you have followed the DarkFall forum (which you probably have since you are posting in this thread with the intention to make a point), you'd notice that there is an increasing amount of players joining/trying the game and so far actually enjoying the game. (Except for 1 member who posted valuable/constructive arguments about why he did not like the game)

When did you start playing "old school" MMO's. World Of Warcraft?
No, it's an idea I would have rejected. You do realize he's opened himself up for many things, including child labor laws. By paying cash, he's effectively made everyone who participates an employee.
You people even sound like suing him?
LOL @ Child Labor Laws
oh the drama of DF's mmorpg.com fora'

Network marketing is making a big wave right now.
reply to: Zorvan01
and you are taking all this time and pain to check, to read, to reply, to re read, to reply again , to re-check fatcs, to appear with a valid argument/s etc etc. and all that because?
It seems like an awful waste of time for someone who does not like this game as YOU claim to be.
Do I have a point?
Don't bother too much. I think he clearly proved himself unable to make any type of valuable arguement based on something more than "Darkfall Sucks". (i.e Troll)
Guess it's time to use my can of
Um, doesn't take long at all to post. And I happen to be doing other things at the moment. You're just a side-quest, so to speak.
So no, you really don't have a point.
But thanks for playing!
