Aion: Future of Aion "Vision" Trailer

MikeBMikeB Community ManagerAdministrator RarePosts: 6,555

Coming in at a full nine minutes in length, this latest trailer for NCsoft's Aion gives us an expansive look into the future of Aion.

Aion's future will bring a major graphics upgrade, housing, underwater cities, real time seasonal changes, mounts (and mounted combat!), and more!

The seasonal changes are quite impressive, with snow gathering on the ground as well as on objects over time, and slowly melting away with the seasons change. The housing component appears quite robust with the ability to be fully decorated, so everyone out there can look forward to letting their inner Martha Stewart out.

Mounts (including flying mounts!) are also shown in the trailer, with the player being able to seemingly tame various creatures into mounts, and it also appears there is support for multi-person mounts as a second rider gets on one of the creatures later in the trailer. Mounted combat is also shown, with the creature itself biting and swiping at enemies with its tail.

Aion  will also be receiving a major facelift, which comes to a surprise to us as it looks quite beautiful as it is, but it is impressive nonetheless with what appears to be vastly improved lighting and shadows, among other things.

We also contacted NCsoft for comment on this new development, and they had this to say:

The trailer shown at this year’s G-star event is a glimpse at the future of Aion. As you can tell from the movie, the development team is hard at work on evolving and growing the Aion experience in some very unique and innovative ways.

When we learn more, we'll be sure to keep you all in the loop. Until then, watch the new trailer here!

What do you think of NCsoft's vision for Aion's future? Have you left Aion, and would you come back when these changes are implemented? If not, why not? Let us know in the comments below!

    Very exciting stuff indeed.

    • Major Graphics Overhaul: DX10 included
    • Player Housing
    • Combat Revamp: The game will play out more like an action game (think Blade & Soul)
    • Weather System Revamp
    • Swimming
    • Under Water Environments: Players will be able to explore new under water cities, dungeons, and quest hubs
    • User Generated Content Expanded: Players will be able to post writs on boards through out the world.
    • Quest System revamp:  Many, many, many more quests and story-line quests are being added
    • New Classes (Supposedly, according to the Korean forums)
    • 2 new weapon types: Whip & Crossbow
    • New Skills for every class
    • New Zones
    • New Monster and NPC AI Revamp
    • Mounts: You can tame your own mount out of various creatures in Atreia, one of which is a Chocobo-Esque bird, you also will be able to ride with 2 people on some mounts!
    • Revamped Sieges
    • Probably many more things (Have to wait til all of it is translated from the Korean forums)

These are the features that so far have been translated from the Korean forums.

    Would you come back?

No, fancy overhaul doesn't make Aion's problems magically dissapear.

The botters and cheaters aren't going to magically dissapear with a fancy upgrade.

It would have been better if they put all their effort and energy in securing their game client first, so it's not one of the easiest hackable clients as it now is! And so pretty much an open invitation to cheating and botting! Just like all their other games (lineage series) have been and still are!

As long as NCSoft keeps being lazy and relying on crap programs as GameGuard (as NCWest might have been bold removing it, the Asian versions of AION are still using it and continue to use it) there is no hope for this game.

It will continue to be a bot infested korean grinder full of cheating kiddies (WoW's community looks even good in comparison) and a fancy overhaul isn't going to solve all that.

    my 2 cents.

? uh most of what he said could be derived just from watching the video.  The rest such as new skills and classes sound pretty reasonable for version 3.0 of a game....

why didnt they just launch the game like this? the games out for like 3 months and they're already completely revamping it?

  • GameloadingGameloading Member UncommonPosts: 14,182

I expected a lot of new content. Swimming, player housing, mounts, these were all features that were mentioned pre - release.

But never in my wildest dreams would I have expected a full blown graphical overhaul for a game thats only 1 years old, especially not for one that has no paid expansions.

It shows that NCsoft plans Aion to be a long term game, and not the next fancy thing to keep it's fans busy until blade and Soul or Lineage 3 arrives.

The game looks absolutely stunning in that trailer.

    Job well done NCsoft.

Also to the poster above me, it's only 3 months old here in the west. It's already been out in korea for over a year.

    That depends.

All these additions and upgrades look incredible but are they all for max level people?
The graphics dont exactly run great now(especially Seiges) so making the graphics better and adding a bunch of new effects(like changing weather) will not be seen as a plus to many.
The level grind needs to be ironed out further. Simply adding a bunch of new quests wont fix it.
And lets hope that other things like botters/spammers and customer service are not completely neglected.

That more or less sums up my feelings on ever playing this game again.

    - Case: Thermaltake Kandalf Black Chassis
    - CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.2GHz (OC'd 4.2GHz on Water Cooling)
    - Memory: Mushkin 8Gb (4x 2Gb) DDR3 1600Mhz
    - HDD: Dual Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 7200 RPM
    - GFX: (2) XFX Radeon HD 5870 in CrossFire - New upgrade! :)

Well, a lot of this stuff was always talked about by the deves. As Gameloading has said, they plan to really make this game into something and somethng for the long haul.

I realize that some people are saying "why didn't they release all of this with the game's launch) but really, there is only so much that can be done before they have to start taking in some money. Otherwise I imagine that they could constantly be adding features and expanded content.

Also, some people have complained about the graphics and I did read something where they were thinking of how to address this. So here we are.

I like the part about the combat changing into more of an action-rpg.  Now I just need to know if they are doing anything to alleviate the feeling of grind, or changing the leveling speed.

They lose me with the Japanese combat. Flashy puke fest of colors.

    Pretty world, ugly combat.

I quit because i didn't have time this holiday season, but i would come back if this was done, assuming at all works. It look ambitious, especially the city siege stuff at end. Also another thing that would affect my return it if this is an update or expansion, I hate when companies make expansions and spit communities.

Either make it a free update or at least if you pay for it at retail, don't make me spend $30 on the box and still need to pay a monthly fee. include a month free on it or something.

isn't this like the 8th thread about this video?

If i'm gonna play a korean mmo again its going to be TERA, at least they don't have a history of having 0 customer service.

But seriously with all the complaints about Aion, did anyone ever read  rant about how crappy Aions graphics were? No, why this was the focus of the "update" is beyond me.

Some people kept on saying X game graphics (to remain on vague) are better then Y game because it has direct x 10 and will even implement direct x 11(?).

the focus aren't the graphics its most on the new combat mechanics and world enhancements.

  • tryklontryklon Member UncommonPosts: 1,370

The game is getting better by the week. And this video only shows the great course the game is taking. Big improvements and enhancements on a regular basis.

Love to see the people that come here to bitch about bots and spammers when everyone in-game can see that its getting better by the day.

16k accounts banned last week for botting and the spam is but a shadow of what it used to be. In fact, its no bigger than the one i get in wow for example.

its funny how people who complained about the botters and quit before the first month assume its just as bad 3 months later when that isn't the case at all

Correction, the focus is on getting people to stay subscribed/resub before the end of Q4 so they can say "hey look how awesome we're doing!" for their end of year report. There is no real information about what the video means at all besides the picking apart by the usual fanboys. Never trust a damn thing thats promised, in "trailer" form no less, that doesn't also have information backing it, and a release timeline within a month, let alone something that's being spouted out during the end of Q4, unless you like being creatively lied to.

Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.

It is a wonderful game....i've been playing it a bit much lately, but it is a game to rival and is certainly not showing signs of dieing anytime soon.

  • PatchumzPatchumz Member UncommonPosts: 50

I laugh at all the stupid people saying "This won't fix the bot and spam problems; game is still going to die; going to be super grinder forever"

Too bad if you tried logging in you'd see no spam, and 16k bots banned in a day.. not to mention the extra quests added in 1.5 and the extra quest experience in 1.5.1. They're just showing you the flashy features that're coming.. if they had the ambition to give you a long video with lots of reading telling you how they are improving the quest system and stuff it would've been a less 'ooo awe' feel to the video.

They are optimizing this MMO for the best; They won't make the same mistakes they did in the past, they know they need a winner.
