All this talk about DAoC being dead is off base. Granted, it's a mature MMOG and its having to now compete with the new kids on the block (EQ2 & WoW), but it is very stable and has a dedicated fanbase. One thing we have seen in this genre is that while some people hop from game to game, a large number find their home and stay put. DAoC is home for a lot of people and it looks to stay that way.
Buffbots are a problem, agreed, and I understand the complaints about the artifacts in TOA (camping Skyros Guros for Scholar's Notes 3 was brutal!), but overall the game is in great shape. The RvR just underwent a huge upgrade and is a great aspect of the game. I think the biggest problem with the game is how Atlantis and SI pulled people away from the original lands. Now many parts of the original world are empty and even SI is feeling a bit lonely. I think Mythic needs to implement something (new quests, new mobs) that will draw players back to the old world.
I'm not ready to give up on DAoC yet. I think we'll see more expansions after Catacombs and I think DAoC will be around for years to come.

All this talk of WoW or EQ2 taking down DAoC is incredibly hilarious.
... There ain't no friggin' way! I mean no way! - Not a chance in hell. {still laughing hard}
EQ2... An online version. Suppose to be a mmorpg. But eeek! The feel of Final Fantasy 8 for the PS2. Talk about super streamlined. Where's the open world? At level X fight the X monster go get the X armor and X weapon. At level X+1, go fight the X+1 (maybe X+2 mobs) and get the X+1 armor and weapon and auto learn the new X+1 action/spell. X+2... X+3...X+4... UGH!
Great graphics. Amazing spell effects. Wasted. On more super stream-lined "same crap as AC2, same crap as Lineage 2, same crap as 14 other POS mmo" ridiculous point your avatar in 1 direction games.
Where is is big free world?? You know? The same one that Ultima Online and Asheron's Call 1 had?? The same one that DAoC had? (even though DAoC was much more stream-lined then UO and AC, it is nothing like this crap now days)
Until something that actually gives players freedom and complete control again comes out, DAoC is going NOWHERE people. Great graphics over freedom and fun? I think not. Besides, DAoC graphics even without the new Catacombs expansion are not that bad. And it doesn't take a $1,800 computer to play it at decent settings either, thank you.

ToA and buffbots were the beginning of the end for DAoC I agree. The other issue was the inability for any character other than a necromancer to solo. I like grouping, but sometimes I would like to relax, and level up a little on my own. Many players felt the level grind, so when they hit 50, they only played their 50th level characters (very understandable). The problem was, that left those without 50th level characters almost no one to group with. Then the begging for plvls started....I get a headache just thinking about it. NF was the first thing DAoC did to encourage new players (thus extending the life of the game) for over a year. I fear though, that it came too late. So many people I referred to DAoC had already used the 7-day trial and found DAoC sadly wanting, as they were unable to find any low level groups, and were told "shut up NOOB" any time they tried to ask questions.
I used to be a very big fan of this game, i have 2 50s and lots mid 30 toons. but now i wish i hadnt wasted my hours on this stupid game. although PVP is not as bad as some ppls say but still toa is the real culprit here. withouht artis u cant even take part in PVP properly. most hardcore PVP guilds would require u to have atleast 9-10 artis . this really sux... although community was kinda friendly i had some really good friends (and they were all my guildies) but some guyz in alliance were not that friendly. i might never return to DOAC and will advice all new players to find some other game. mythic has really fucked this game with Toa/buffbots.
I would have to agree with the buffbot issue. I still play DAOC for the pvp, which I happen to like. Last night I was on and had a full group in Molvik (lvl 35-39 Battleground) but if you did a /who Molvik you would get 30 people in the zone. It is a sad day when you have that many buffbots and So few players. The only healers found were in the PK. Also there were 0 tanks on in Molvik most of the night. we got to the lord several times, but had no tanks to tank him and all died. Buffbots now unevenly skew the game. If you do not have a buff bot, you are at an extreme disadvantage. For instance, my lvl 39 nightshade would run across this one Shadowblade over and over. He was lvl 39 as well and would usually kill me in 2 hits....this being AFTER I perfed him. I always seemed to get the jump on him, and would get about 3 attacks in before he started to attack and killed me in 2 hits. So I got wise and employed another lvl 39 shade to help with this guy after 5 times losing. I got the perf off on him, and the other shade got a backstab off...then he proceeded to kill us both and run away 1/2 life. After that I logged. I have played Daoc since a little while after release, and it is really going down hill. Mythic needs to really clean some stuff up to keep me from going to WoW. Sorry for the lengthy post, just giving some examples.
DAoC dead I dont think so, i was hearing same words from players ove 2 years and what do you think 70%still playing 8% sold theyr accounts and 22% playing other games but didnt sell theyr DAoC accounts (i dont think that most of them will , they keep coming back and quit DAOC agian again and again).
WoW plzz pvp maybe but grafic and pve isnt that much, Everquest2 not bad good pve grafic but i dont think i will play it if they dont have pvp, you say that DAoC going down hill to hell yah maybe for someone it is but i still love RvR grafic and PvE there.
i got in to Catacombs beta and there is lots of new thing there and btw they killed buff bots for most interesting class (vampiir can only use AF and Haste from druid) and there is lots of thing to see in catacombs.
And no its not waiting for catacombs exp for me i still love playing VW maybe vampiir will be my new class. Im playing 3 years witohut buff bot and i didnt lose my mind cus of that.
Players whos trying to live always giving same resons: i hate camping artifacts and leveling them; i cant find friends; BD, necr etc... owerpowerd than me. and noone saied that he hav seen evrything
(P.S. played UO SWG RO Lineage2 Everquest Anarchy-oline City of Heroes AC AC2, tryed WoW and Everquest2 and still DAoC is best for me)
I been playing this game since Beta... I quit Daoc at a point to try something new but after trying some other games returned to it... I'm gonna stick to it untill next title from Mythic comes out... I DO agree that ToA and buffbots ruined most of the game, it's hard to find groups etc etc but in contrary to what other people think I believe that mythic supports that game way more than other companies do with their games. I'm a casual player I like to log and have fun. I hate tryign to find groups to hunt artifacts and ML's but there is always a pick up group waiting for ya for some RVR Then I think that the free level system gives players a chance to get a lot of new clases so try the different aspects of the game... I don't know if any of you guys tried Catacombs but the ID's (instanced Dungeons) are a great idea especially since there are some even for soloer's Anyway that the way I see it ToA was really a step back for the casual players since large groups were needed but with NF and Catacombs casual players get their chances... I'll be around in this game as long as it is out and I feel great about it even though there are times that I feel burned out... I don't think that there is another game out there that can cover a casual players need without much frustration That's my 2 cents on the matter
Originally posted by Gleeb DAOC IS DEAD. I'LL SAY IT AGAIN DEAD BUFFBOTS/TOA/SELFISH PLAYERS. D.E.A.D thats all was 2 years of fun. then SI/TOA/buffbots became the shit/pepole began to not give a fuck about anyone. and what about that catacombs, more equipment thats nice, more endless camping, dam i think EQ2 is already out with TOA, camp the same mob for days to level a stupid arti. more pain on making tamplets and aranging your shit. didnt your mama tell you?, some times more is less mythic. mythic fucked up themselvs with the "i dont care about my customers i just wanna make money" approch, if you ask me i'll be thinking twice before buying a mythic game again. with all the pay for another expantion bullshit. what do i pay 13$ a week for. my god, a stupid customer support that you really dont need that much, or is it for the huge amount of bugs they keep implanting in the game. i wont think i'll be back to daoc anytime soon if ever.
I wholeheartedly agree with you! DAoC was the BEST game I've ever played, period. It was so much fun. Maybe because everyone was a low level and you could always find people to party with, and you made new friends etc etc, I don't know, but it was a BLAST. I had so much fun leveling up my Healer, meeting new people, going on Spin runs, seeing the new Darkness Falls open and leveling in there (I still remember when we were doing DF loops and I leveled up going down the ramps past the Inquisitors. Man, those were the days) Then SI came..and my computer couldn't handle it's graphic intensity ;|. I still played RVR and regular DAOC without going to the SI worlds, but then everyone kept leaving to goto the SI Worlds..it sounded like so much fun..then ToA came out..an even more graphic intense game..the game suddenly died..I wanted to make a RM and then no one was in any of the caves..everything was deserted in the other areas where I couldn't access...
Sigh..people started to quit, all the new people joining were mean and evil..When I RvR'ed "RADAR" was out and mythic WASNT doing anything. Even though I was in the best 15-player RVR guild in Kay (Furvos Latros-always #1 for weekly RP pts) I began to get bored of RVRing..It just wasn't the same anymore.
Why bother with the time complaining about a game u don't wanna play???? Stop whining about the game and quit, and try finding a better one.. I'll say this discussion will never end.. why? Cause we r all different in what we like and how we play our games...
I've had the downs on DAOC too, but I always returned..
I been runing to and away from DAoC alot in my days.
Made a skald up to 49. Sold him.
Came back some 6 months later with a friends account. Brought up a new 50 and some other chars.
Quit, then came back after more than a year. This was recent.
Problem now is,I wont be able to come back after i quit this time. Mostley cause of Atlantis and the master levels. These Master level raids take to long to do, and are to hard to get organized (for me or other normal people :P )
So now I have definatley quit. Even though Catacombs come out.... its a nice uppgrade... own dungeons and so. But they released it to late. If it cme some 6 monhs ago... before WoW beta and Everquest 2. Then it could have had a chanse. Now it will only be the most dedicated people who stay behind in DAoC.
Me... im going for WoW all theway. And ofcourse.... the newley released Pirates!!

i think it is easy to lvl in this game i am a new player havent been playing that long about a month i dont no if thats good but considering this is one of the 1st mmo's that u actuly need to think about what ur gonna spec ur char in i think its easy and even easyier now that they have the free lvl
Well, I have for the most part came to the conclusion that you can't trust the boards for a good feel on any game out there. No matter what game you read them for, there are players who rip them apart, and others who do nothing put praise the game. So I will just give my personal outlook on DAoC. When I started the game back in June of this year, it was because I was not happy with EQ. I had played EQ back about 3 years prior, and restarted with a new account. I found it hard to play since I no longer knew anyone who played, and could never get a group. My friend had downloaded the DAoC free trial, (he and his dad were long time UO players who had just sold their accounts) and he kept going on how cool it was. I figured this was just due to the fact that he had never played a 3-d mmorpg and was amazed by the flashiness of it. But when I found a copy of the standalone DAoC for 5 bucks at a store I picked it up.
At first I went to the pvp server Mordred with him and played a Mid. I was a Dwarvish Healer, as I had been playing a Shaman, and a Cleric before that. I wasnt a fan of the pvp as a healer, I served no purpose. Then I started playing a Hib on the Pellinor server, b/c thats where his dad played, and he had a character on that server as well. Shortly after starting a Valewalker on that server, I found a guild that was active, and had characters of all levels in it. I played happily up to 20. Then I finally got to go to the BG's. This was great, pvp on a non-pvp server. Taking keeps was so much fun, but I sucked. At 20, you are an easy target for the 24's if you arent in a well rounded group. So I left and worked up to 24. I was amazing, not bragging on my self, but I just felt awesome. I could actually kill stuff. After leveling out of the 20-24 battlegrounds, I thought I'd move immediately to the next one, but it was always empty. I continued to level my valewalker, but started experimenting with other classes as well (especially after the free levels were introduced). I loved the wide variety of spec lines, and how each one played differently. I took a break due to college and trying out other games. I never canceld my account, but just didnt log on more than once a week for 5 minutes to just check in on my guild. I keep the game even now, because a) its still a blast b) I dont care if other games have better graphics, I love the gameplay c) quests are great, and I havent scratched the surface of the available ones yet. I recommend anyone to try this game out, a free trial is free. So much easier to decide if its your type of game after playing it for a bit. I have a problem with dropping 50 bucks in a game to see if I like it. After the Horizons flop (for me at least, game had great concept though) methinks I wait before running to a game right after it comes out,

After the Horizons flop (for me at least, game had great concept though) methinks I wait before running to a game right after it comes out,
I know what you mean. I bought Lineage II, FFXI, HZ, EQII, PS, and even a month suscription to Ragnorok. All of those I played for less than a month.

DAoC was so fun when it first came out. Me and my bud had a blast grouping together.
