2. able to speak or write smoothly, easily, or readily: a fluent speaker; fluent in six languages.
3. easy; graceful: fluent motion; fluent curves.
4. flowing, as a stream.
5. capable of flowing; fluid, as liquids or gases.
6. easily changed or adapted; pliant.
Fluid -
–noun
1. a substance, as a liquid or gas, that is capable of flowing and that changes its shape at a steady rate when acted upon by a force tending to change its shape.
–adjective
2. pertaining to a substance that easily changes its shape; capable of flowing.
3. consisting of or pertaining to fluids.
4. changing readily; shifting; not fixed, stable, or rigid: fluid movements.
5. convertible into cash: fluid assets.
See? Not really. "Fluent" motions are "graceful", while "fluid" are "not fixed stable or rigid". Different things.
(taken from Dictionary.com)
NOT fixed, stable or Rigid. So. Not Fixed. Not Stable. Not Rigid. IE: Easy Graceful
LOTRO seems pretty the same as WoW for movements. AoC have better movement system with really cool animations. Really dont understand what you are talking about. For sure if you change game you will see a different movement system but you get used to. I think you should change computer, Lag is probally caused by your bad computer.
I have to disagree about LOTRO being the same as wow for movement, WoW is a lot more fluid. I do like AoC's combat and movement better than WoW's though.
I will say that WoW's overall combat does feel fast paced (at least in pvp terms, even pve stuff dies fast). It is FPS like, and that is probably what draws a lot of people into the combat.
Bah I dont know, these games are like 'Hit / waiting time where the player just stand / Hit / no where waiting time'. I dont think it is fluid... For sure the movement is Okay, but I dont see bad things on other games movement system, except Aion with invisible wall everywhere. But for combat, I think near 90% of MMORPG have a bad combat system, so ugly, but we are used to . AoC did well !
Thse games are turnbase games with the ability to "sneak in" an extra move now and then. They just try and hide the fact.

And what? Green text is in relation to liquids, while yellow things are not the same thing. You can be graceful nd rigid at the same time, look at, say LotRO - the movements are nicely-animated, but because of the cooldown, they feel stiff. So they're fluent, but not fluid.
I hate WoW because it made my plush hamster kill himself, created twin clones of Hitler, punched Superboy Prime in reality, stared my dog down, spoiled my grandmother, assimilated me into the Borg, then made me into a real boy, just to make me a woman again.

So, after 5 years in the legendary world of azeroth, i wanted to try something eles. So i tried Lotro,AoC,War,FE,RoM but none of them had it right. Why is wow the only game with smooth combat, with flueting movments and such. Every other game feels like lag compard to wow. What a game need to be sucssesfull is among tons of stuff(see below) 1 - Smooth/fast combat 2 - Fluent movement. Any1 else experienced this ?
I must agree with you with WoW , although the end game raiding does not interest me in the slightest, and also I have found WoW in game chat and attitude of players to be the worse I have ever seen/heard.
So in a way WoW is a great game but for end game casuals it is not that good. The journey to end game was the game for me , and that also applies to many other games out there.
Only game I can honestly say I enjoyed the end game was Daoc. Maybe if they opened a new server without ToA I would go back I guess that also applies to many other players..

the character customization was also a complete joke

WOW got it right in many ways. Still I dont play WOW anymore because I feel that the overall balance of the game is relying on PVP Arena like content - and directly hintering the fluent PVE raid content to become intresting again.
Im waiting for the next 5 man Dungeon PVE game with strong emphasis on versitile classes. Not in form of number of classes. But number of abiltes to challenge the players in diffrent PVE encounters.
I played wow since its beta. And in beta the game had some potential but come release I was sad to see the greatness of certain classes were nerfed. Paladins comes to mine. They were turned into armoured off healers who thanks to later revamps were able to out heal priest. Then they decide to revamp in burning crusade and again paladins found a new role....TANKS.
Now with Wolk you see more ret pallies.
It isnt that wow has it perfect far from it. Perfection is never having to change a thing. Instead they tweak and modify.
Now if you really want to hear a rant how wow has ruined game play talk to any druid who has played since the birth of the game you will hear hours of complaining.
Wow has set a standard that is hard to meet. And there is a reason. Blizzard is considered to be the hardest company to work for. They wont settle for crap. If wow didnt have a wealth of background as well as a solid player base installed it would be another eq. Wow is propbably one of the more simplistic games I have ever played besides the city of heroes/ villians.
Everything is laid out so that even a blind monkey could figure it out. And if it wasnt for an active community posting how to complete quest and where to look the game would falter much like alot of other games.
Combat in wow is beyond simplistic thus why its so fluid. If you had a chance play age of conan then you would understand this. However simplistic it is a long and drawn out thing which only rewards you if you spend endless hours of your life playing to get into raids. For the casual gamer much of the content of wow is lost less your a pvp monkey.
Many developers have taken ques from this focusing alot of game play aspects on pvp rather then pve. Which lets face it killing a friend is always more fun then killing a mindless computer controlled zombie. Look at the game warhammer online. Here you have a dedicated fan base yet just cant get past wow. However where war fails to wow it has many things that make it far superior. Easy to get pug matches that reward you with xp in a pvp enviroment not to mention reputation which unlocks gear that is pretty nice to have. You dont have to go through begining pve instances in order to advance if you do the pvp way.
It all boild down to whats your play style. As stated the most fluid game for combat is a fps. For others its a slower pace such as eve on line. Others its a mad dash off flails and swords with mages blasting away like war and in some cases wow. The root of the issue with most games is that we have been spoiled by the easy user friendliness of wow however it lacks the rewards needed to keep casual gamers and really is only for the hard core I have no life gamer.
Sorry having a life seems a much better option to me. For those of you who like fast action and easy to pick up and learn check out navy field. Its not spectacular in graphics but its fun aspect is beyond those short comings.
Overall WoW copied and then was copied but right now it's all BUT original and whatever it did get right it was either surpassed, forgotten or evened in everyother mmorpg

This is why WoW is so successful.
Easily to understand and play even for the most inexperienced, and run's great even on 10 year old computers.
I'm not saying it is a bad game, because it's not, but it's appeal has nothing to do with it being the best.
IMO UO and AC1 got it right but to each their own. That's why we have choices.
Einherjar_LC says: WTB the true successor to UO or Asheron's Call pst!
