WoW is the only mmorpg to date to get the feel of movement and combat right. I mean I loved mmorpgs in the past but go back and play Everquest now or SWG Pre CU on the Emu and see how horrible they really are compared to WoW. All the new mmorpgs just feel bad as well which is a shame because I'm losing faith in someone actually being able to match WoW.
So, after 5 years in the legendary world of azeroth, i wanted to try something eles. So i tried Lotro,AoC,War,FE,RoM but none of them had it right. Why is wow the only game with smooth combat, with flueting movments and such. Every other game feels like lag compard to wow. What a game need to be sucssesfull is among tons of stuff(see below) 1 - Smooth/fast combat 2 - Fluent movement. Any1 else experienced this ?
It's called "polish" and is very important to the success of a new MMO. Almost any new MMO coming out with clunky movement and crappy combat has pretty much wrung its own death knell.

Yep. the winner hides in the movement/combat combo.
You don't agree?
Do as this man says and compare them next to each other. It is as if playing another genre.
Hats off to the animation team that made this work.
Want a real mmorpg? Play WOW with experience turned off mode and be Pve_Pvp King at any level without a rat race.
Sry for my english. Do you understand what i mean with flueting movement ? and if some1 can correct it it would be great.
I believe he ment "fluid".
Lol.
Go check post #15. Just so this doesn't go back to that.

LOTRO seems pretty the same as WoW for movements. AoC have better movement system with really cool animations. Really dont understand what you are talking about. For sure if you change game you will see a different movement system but you get used to. I think you should change computer, Lag is probally caused by your bad computer.
LOTRO is similar to WoW in a lot of aspects, but the combat in it is painfully slow. For me, WoW is just right.
Fluid combat that feels natural and smooth is one of the biggest reasons Blizzard takes so long with their games. It's always kind of been their bread and butter. Blizzard fans know that the lore and art may be inspired by other games etc. but what it comes down to is that Blizzard games have always played better. It's rather simple actually. Easy to play, hard to master. Most companies can't get this simple concept down. Blizzard may be money giants now but gameplay first and foremost even if it means the game wont release for another 5 years is something they have never let go of.
Bingo, ding ding, whatever. From RTS to MMO there is a reason a ton of people play their games from the scrub level to the pro level over the ones Blizzard games take influence from. They feel better, perform better, play faster, smoother, yadda, yadda. They also manage to do this on a large variety of system configurations from low end to top end and looks good on all.
I'd have to agree with the OP also. Aion has come close but nothing can top off how smooth WoW was. Most of the games I've played the movements are sketchy, or the combat is just painfully slow. Many games also have a lack of instant cast spells which makes it impossible to move around and kite mobs like you were able to in WoW. I think its also a personal preference but I do feel WoW was the only game to be perfect for me. As much as most of us hate blizzard we probably still love them for making a game so perfect. Unfortunately it makes most other games feel like trash after playing.
Problem with AoC that ruins it for me is how they favour animation over functionality and frigging half the time it doesn't feel like you're in control of your character. I also hate the finishing moves which lock you into this animation and you can't move while they're doing that. It's annoying in PVP if someone gets that outta the blue and it's like wtf?

A witty saying proves nothing.

To me wow is shallow and barely even a mmo, so I don't play it. But I agree with the OP in every way, even flueting

Agree 100%
If only other games could figure out how to have a movement system and combat system that rivaled single player Console games...
Actually... Age of Conan was really good in that regard... Its movement is the most realistic and fluid and its combat fast paced and action based.
Odd that is the ONLY other MMO I can think of that has such a well developed movement and combat system...
LOTOR is awful because their combat is clunky and slow and their movement reminds me of ice skating. Aion is close but its not quite there...
Ah well, someday someone will get it right.
