Are there any upcoming MMORPGs(next year) that don't have instancing?
Still don't understand how people continue to play MMORPGs that have instanced content..

Mortal Online has no Instancing
I am not a fan of instancing either. That is why I stoped playing guild wars after only a month. Only being able to meet with other people in towns really ruined the world experience for me. I am ok with instancing like that found in WoW though, and just using it for the dungeons and raids.
From what I read GW2 is supposed to be an open world. I also am hopefull that The Secret World, and Blade and Soul will be instance free. Those are two games I am looking forward to right now, and sadly I won't play them if they have a lot of instancing.
GuildWars was a pretty bad game I thought.
All of the PvE and PvP was instanced in that game..
The character is always in like third person view
No real raiding content, etc.
Game is pretty much point to click and does not have free movement
GuildWars is a great game for what it is,don't forget that it's not a mmorpg. GuildWars 2 will be a mmorpg with open world but still have instances like WOW.
GW2 is sounding great at the moment it really is going to be very different than GW1..
That's one great thing about Vanguard,no instances.
Mortal Online
Darkfall
Vanguard
there are no instances in those games as far as i know
Besides mortal online, no i don't believe so unless some of the other idnie MMO's whose details are scarce come out. From recently launched i can only think of fallen earth too.
Vanguard: saga of heroes. Best mmorpg made.
Guys he said upcoming games, not already released ones...
Isn't vanguard dead anyway
Every single mmo that I know of has instances, if you don't like that then you probably need to find a new hobby.

Ultima Online, Asheron's Call, EVE Online, A Tale in the Desert AfterWorld, Archlord, Lineage, Lineage 2 (although the clan halls may fall intothat category). Those are the ones I can think of right off the bat.
- RPG Quiz - can you get all 25 right?
- FPS Quiz - how well do you know your shooters?
Aren't stations in EVE instanced? I seemed to remember that when playing. I thought there was some instances in Lineage 2 as well. The others you mentioned I never played so I can't comment.
Yes station are instanced.
I dont see the plus in complete non-instancing, especially regarding end game raiding. It was fine in outdoor dungeons like plane of time in eq1, but not for indoor dungeons like say APW in vanguard. Whats the point in non instancing if no one shares the dungeon? Raids generally go elsewhere if the dungeon is already taken. So whats the point of non instancing? Is first come first served somehow a positive thing to someone?
The OP is old school.
He wants Large raid non-instanced encounters that progressed guilds fight over.
Something that is not really done in instanced games these days.
He's one of those guys stuck in EQs pvp server days and wont let go.
Hopefully one day he will have a game like that, imo everyone should have atleast one mmo they enjoy even if that game caters to a very small niche.

This thread should only run about 10 or 20 pages.
Don't think there are too many instance free, upcoming MMOs. These games are less MMO-like with every new release. They're heading more towards being "lobby games"...of course, they'll still stamp MMORPG on the box for marketing purposes.
EVE is the only MMO out with NO instances.
ALL other MMOs instance because even if they don't instance in game, they split people on different servers.
EVE everyone is in 1 universe, not different server instances.
As far as unreleased MMOs with NO instancing? There is none I know for sure.
Devs find it easier to make cash by just copying WoWs format rather then actually innovate a true next gen persistant world.
Shame, because if devs did it right, it would be huge
I agree with you entirely. However, most such MMO's seem to be PVP-oriented. I would like to see a truly hardcore PVE MMO with ZERO instancing.
Uh yeah.
Somehow when you design your game intentionally for PvP and have instancing, it just doesn't work out. Take a look at AION, think people will look at that and call it a PvP game? No
Games with usage of instancing have to have this concept of fake PvP. They can't get players to fight over things normally, so they put in special zones, or special rewards, etc. in order to make people PvP. The type of player who will PvP in these games is completely different from the type of people who you would normally see on a PvP server in a game like EQ.
In EQ, people would PvP over world content. They would fight over zones, etc.
Having instances totally destroys any PvP system these games can have. If you can level in protected instances from level 1-60, then how are you going to get PvPed? When you are outside an instance?
Any game with protected zones, such as PvE instancing, cannot be called a PvP game. Because PvE instances are safe zones where you can't PvP. Look at WoW, going to tell me WoW is a PvP game? It's a carebear game if anything. No one there likes PvPing. It reminds me of D2 PvP, you go into these random "rooms" (arenas) and PvP random people. No one will PvP you own your own server, you'd be an idiot to PvP on your own server in fact. Want to kill someone over a spawn? Good luck, they'll come back in ghost form and jump you when your low.
No one PvPs in these games.. It's all instancing, lack of death penalty and carebear modes.
World PvP seems like it is gone. I remember when I played WoW early on they had no instances, people would just attack undercity for no reason, and kill newbies in tarren mills because they had nothing better to do. Well, why not have those kind of massive World PvP battles over PvE content, once again? I really think these instances are a step downward for MMORPGs.
Some people see instancing as a step up, because it gives everyone their own copy of everything. Think of the effect of instancing on PvPing, it really ruins that. It also discourages getting to know the people who are on your own server. When I played EQ, we could talk to 50-100 people in the same zone, see other players, etc. Instances reduce things to 5 player zones.
Another dumb thing with instances is that it makes you run a whole sequential set of encounters with specific loot tables. What if you don't want to kill a useless boss that has nothing you want? You are stuck. Play a game without instancing, you go directly where you want, camp anything you want, get the gear you want. Can't do that with instancing, there's no choice to be made
I have a question for you.
In your RL world you NEVER go to a football stadium, a movie, a theater ?
And when you do, are there people jumping on your seats and fight on stage to hamper the enjoyment of your "instance" ?
See... any GOOD designed mmorpg with an open world also needs very much those instances.
Options.
Rarely...
I don't want to ruin anything for anyone. I simply think that the people who are these games, the newer people who never played any older MMORPGs.. they might enjoy having no instances.
I think the people who participate in WoW PvP have a false sense of what PvP is. They seem to think it is having a world where you don't have real World PvP, or any losses, or guilds vs guilds on the same server. They think that it is going into protected instances and fighting random teams in your spare time.. Real PvP is when you fight people on your own server to affect the outcome of your own server. I don't think they have ever experienced real PvP.
Most people who played an EQ PvP server can't even play a game like WoW. The game just doesn't even compare. What is the point of all that loot, etc. when it can't be used against people on your own server in any way? Shouldn't players be gearing up to fight other guilds on their server, to help advance their own guild?
All of the gear gained in WoW is kind of useless in that respect, you can't use it to affect your own server. Making it even worse is that the PvE content in that game is so trivial
How do you get around spawn campers?
You know the no life newbs that use alts to camp boss spawns so the unemployed guilds can get easy non-contested boss kills at 4am?
Is that ok to you? I always found it a problem in games with open world pve encounters on long respawn timers.
This isnt 1999 anymore bro, were arent in college anymore. how do you make it that shit like that doesnt go down?

Neither do I. Instancing is the most commonly abused feature in MMOs, but I'd rather not have ANY of it. There are far more creative ways to deal with things, like how Vanguard works out special paths in dungeons. Instancing is a lazy gimmick used by lazy devs. Plain and simple. It's the defining feature that makes an MMO slip from a virtual world, to a hub world of mini games.
Darkfall Travelogues!

That's exactly right and about as well stated as could be.
Are you listening, WOW devs? You need to.
Predictable spawn timers. A boss can always spawn at a certaim time if they are not up. Then it is first come first serve. At least with these system people on PvP servers could actually fight each other.
