Since high school, all of my close friend migrate to all different corner of the world. MMO is a good excuse for all of us to hang out with each other. Everything else is pretty much icing on the cake.
It all started in 2002. I was 22 years old, and I just bought my first computer. I went to a store to look at computer games, and ran across three games that caught my eye, because they all said I could play them online. One of those games, Motor City Online, was only $9, so I bought it along with the other game. The other game came down to DAoC or EQ. I read the back of the boxes, and DAoC sounded like a more fun game, since it said I could fight enemy players for control of Keeps. Keep in mind, video games, and RPG's in general were fairly new to me, so the ability to play a RPG online with other people, with the promise that it'd take a long time to fully master my character was a dream come true. I mean, I would have to put real effort into master my character (leveling him up), whereas in single player RPG's, they just took a few weeks to master.
Anyways, so I play MMORPG's because I think playing a game with other people is the best gameplay experience there is. It's even better when one group of players gets to fight another group of players for a worthy objective.
I play STO right now, because it's the newest game out, and it's fun. The character advancement and customization system is a blast, as is space combat. It's also really easy to find groups, and you can practically group through the whole game if you wanted to. The difficulty of the content scales to the size of your group, so that the encounter is always challenging. Every time you earn a rank, you feel like you earned it, and you feel so happy to finally be able to put another bar on your uniform and command a larger ship and crew.

i play MMORPGS for the following reasons:
1. escapism- a chance to get away from "real life"
2. a sense of adventure- to explore a new world
3. commaraderie- being a part of a community
4. the challenge to maximize my characters in game
live long and prosper
strength and honor
if urgent do it yourself
if you have time-delegate it
if you have forever-form a committee
