I just wanted to thank those of you who encouraged me to try Darkfall a few weeks ago. I absolutely love this game. The learning curve is a bit steep right off the bat but it all levels out quickly into a very enjoyable experience.
I was really burned out on the MMOs that have been coming out in the last few years. They all essentially were the same game wrapped up differently. I had been numbed to how much these games hold your hand now and put you on rails. I was numb to the game-worlds being little more than "connected bowls" of neatly arranged content. How there was little to no sense of excitement or danger in-game anymore.
I had more fun on a short pve outing with a clan mate last night than I can remember having in the last few years in any other game. We had to plan our route and take detours for safetys sake. We came close to death a few times by roaming bands of pvpers and escaped using the terrain. We had to constantly watch our backs and listen to the environment around us. We spied on others to try to gain insight on their threat to us. We finally killed our mobs and made it home safely with some nice loot.
Love the game-world too, its beautiful with shadows turned on. I can't wait to go explore some of the islands. The only thing I see as weak right now on a cosmetic level are the animations and spell effects. I'm sure all that will get ironed out sooner or later though.
So thanks again!

Im glad to hear you enjoy Darkfall : )
And yes, the difference between other themepark MMOs are almost painful (in a good way).
Everyday here on MMORPG.com we can read about gamers looking for something different, why cant more people try DF then? They did try WAR, AoC, Aion without hesitation!
Couldn't agree more. But the explanation is simple, they're a bunch of sheeps buying into the hype made by the marketing department of every game (WAR anyone?).
Every new game is the second coming of Christ. WAR, AoC, CO, Aion, soon it will be SWTOR, Star Trek, and so on. It's overhype and people buy into the hype completing ignoring the fact ,out of their own will, that said game is just the same old same old.
Only reason they don't want to join DFO right away is that DFO is filled with Wolves. And we all know that we need sheeps to feed the wolves. Only problem though is that DFO doesn't have that many wolves in the starter area.....anyway...
That said, have a nice day :þ
I'm glad you are enjoying the game as much as I am. I am also a new person that started just before the expansion, and I'm very thankful for a new fresh feeling for an mmo unlike all the ones I have been trying lately, especially Aion (yawn).
I joined an awesome all ork clan, and they help with everything, weapons, armor, pvp, etc. I have never seen so much help from a guild and other people in any other mmo I played. It seems the people here are more about teamwork then me, myself, and I.
I look forward to months to come with this game!

A bit nitpicking from my site but you joined a CLAN, guilds are profession associations in Darkfall represented by the NPC trainers.
hehe a bit DF terminology nerdiness...
Good to hear you like the game and have an great experience and good company in game.

I would try it .... but where is the trial?
I stopped paying for games i can't try first a long time ago ... wasted to much money on disappointing games ....
You wasted money on overhyped (from devs) MMOs : (
Why not try a MMO with no hype? Just players telling you it is fun!
But watch videos first and make sure you understand what kind of MMO DF really is : )
C'mon, its 50 bucks, go for it. You know you want to.
I've been holding back myself, these days not so much for the cost, just not enough time to put into the game should I actually enjoy it.

Heh ... thanks to my 2 toddlers, these days i do have to be somewhat more responsible with money and time
Not that i have any left
I'll wait for a trial ....
Same here, I'm waiting for the trial. DF looks like it is a lot of fun, I'm just not sure if its for me, a trial might change my mind though.
I was smart enough to wait for a trial on AoC and WAR and I'm thankful for the money it saved me. Aion I haven't touched, but it looks to be the same ol' junk I've played over and over.
I'm without a MMO and nothing seems to catch my interest past whats offered in the trial period. I'm tired of the same ol' cookie cutter games that are being pumped out, like many. I just don't want to spend my money on something that might keep me interested for a month or two. I know DF isn't the norm as far as game design goes, that still does not mean I will like it. I do hope they pump out a trial in the near future, but till then I'm going to sit and wait.
I love your signature!
Great story OP. Sounds like a lot of fun Hopefully I'll be playing soon as well.

There is a 10 day trial. I bought a magazine for my nephew and it had a 10 day trial card inside. He plays Wow only so i guess it would not hurt him to give it to me and email it to you.

Yes, the explanation is simple, but not the one you mentioned. The explanation is, most games have trials. People try the game first, and then make an intelligent decision to buy the game or not. DF has no trial, hence not many people want to spend 50$ on something they may or may not like. Especially if the game is for a niche market.

Thats the worst kind of hype. At least companies are somewhat bound by the law to NOT lie openly. Players can say anything and everything.Best bet is to look at both positive comments and negative ones, sort out the rubbish and try and make an intelligent decision. Of course nothing beats a trial, that way you can try the game yourself and make a decision based on YOUR expriences, not someone named "OMGILUVDFANDWANNAHAVEITSBABIES" or "OMGIH8DFITSTHEANTIKRIST".

But people complain about the other MMOs! Those MMOs had trials and still they didnt hesitate to waste money on them. Even if they did try them first and saw they were useless games.

The moment that Darkfall has a free trial is the moment I'm going to have numerous farming alts.
AKA, that's a bad thing.

You are contradicting yourself. if they did buy the game after trying it, that means they didn't find that game useless. You dont buy something you hate if you tried it, right? If you do, you have oniomania and you should contact a psychiatrist.

If its done smart then not necessarily. They can have a separate server for it, or same server but geographically isolated landmass. Those are just a few ideas that may work to some degree.

I think that promotion was only in Greece and it worked for European server only, but Its just an assumtion. I would also be interested in trying the game. Anyone knows something for certain?

Yes it's a greek mag, it's called PC Master and it offers a 10 day trial. However i did not open the mag for details about servers etc since i already play DF. I guess it will work for any other country though.

Not everything in life is "try before you buy" you know?
FFS if you can't shell out $50 every once in awhile for a video game, wth are you doing even gaming. People are so self-entitled I swear to god.
I checked out FE before I bought DF. While I could see that it was a good game it just wasn't for me. Do I regret taking the "chance"? Hell no. It's $50 ffs. If I had ended up not liking DF as well, no skin off my butt. Every year I purchase a few games, some I like and some I don't. Same goes for movies. You don't get your money back if you decide you don't like it after 20 minutes.

That's very generous of you m8 ... if you can hook me up with a trial, i will for sure try it ( though not in the most busy month of the year ).

Sorry to chime in on both of your discussion... but I wish I had 50 bucks to throw away just to try a game. Usually I like to test out a game in trial (or Beta wich is probably the best way to know if you like something or not), or wait for something like Darkfall to hit Steam for 9.99. Sure I'll try it out for 10 bucks, why not... but not take a chance if I like it or not for 50... that's too steep for my blood.
Yeah, I'd wait for the free trial, I bought it early, and felt ripped off. Dropped it after the month sub was up. But they have cured me of buying before trying.

bad example with movies - you cant TRY the movie before spending money on it. And please spare me the "50$ is nothing" routine, you obviously are either rich or your daddy/mommy pays your bills. For me, wasted 50$ is like 2-3 cases of beer, or a gift for my wife/kids, or an extra payment for my mortgage, or its a saving that goes towards my kids education, or a deposit towards my new car cause my old one is dying out. There are million of reasons where the money could go. If you don't mind wasting 50$ once in a while, send it my way. I will send you back a nice post card every time.
