When I first fell upon MMORPG.com, I was scouting the web in search of information on MMORPG population. I wanted to know, how much subscribers (to official servers) had this particular MMORPG game and how much this other. What were the top10 mmorpg in terms of number of players and all. It could even be detailed as how much people from US, Europe, Asia are playing game. (just a tought on Ragnarok online here)
Also about the activity.. like how much people are usually loged at a same time.
I ended not finding any website (even MMORPG.com) that gather this information on their site, or even, it is very hard to find this particular information on the actual game's website. Since MMORPG is doing a great job covering the overrall "MMORPG world" I think this particular information could be very interesting. Updated each weeks or months, something like that.
Back in 1997, UO was no doubt the most popular MMO, and I always wondered how much subscribers it could have. Lately I heard UO actually beat a new population record (witch surprised me quite a lot). BUT I WANT NUMBERS!!.
I posted a suggestion few days ago about earth and beyond, and I was told the game was closed. I was surprised.. this means the game didn't have enough subsribers left. Knowing the numbers of subscribers lets you know if the game is popular or not. And usually this means good or not. Also more subscribers means more people to play with.. witch is always fun.
Oh and.. I would think that currently the top numbers of subscribers is held by EQ, followed by SWG and UO. But this is just what I THINK. I'm sure this is something the staff at MMORPG can do! :P I'm sure such a database would bring a few more thousands of hits on the website..
Can I have a blue response on this (wooops I'm not on Blizzard forum... )? wether it is doable or not? If it was suggested already? Planned?:P

The problem is, many companies don't release how many subscribers they have, and for the companies that do, they only release them 4 times a year max, and I'm sure exaggerate a little.
I think this might be the site that tells you how many subscriber's mmorpgs have.. the site is down right now though so I can't check.. http://pw1.netcom.com/~sirbruce/Subscriptions.html
And for NA subscribers, yes, EQ is 1st, and SWG is second.
However if you count asians.. then L1, L2, Ro and other games literally quadruple the subscibers or more.

Evolution of MMORPG: EQ -> DAoC -> WoW/EQ2 -> Guild Wars
Down time, monthly fees and camping are ideas that will be forgotten, all too soon. If your not playing Guild Wars your playing with something dead.
What did you mother say about playing with dead things?
