Can we trust NCSoft to deliver after what happened with Aion?

I don 't know kinda makes me thing the whole aion conversion thing was a way to get a cash infusion to develop BS, like blade and Soul, (heh see what I did there...anyways). They are not getting my money, I'm done with NCSoft. They can come out with the greatest mmo out there, and be so stupid as to let it be overrun with bots.

They are 3 and 0 on this thing, I doubt they try to fix anything now. Why would this gasme be any different when their current business system is proving so successful?

By that logic, every MMO is still in development.  Hell, every game   (No) just every MMO that gets any sort of content/updates/bugfixes/support whatsoever. Aion meets all of those criteria, so it is always in development. You are terming "Development"  strictly upon popular "Before it is released" terminology. The real term of "Development" is any sort of growth through a "Prime", or beyond. Aion is still young, and I believe it has yet to see it's prime, as there is a shit ton of content on it's way.  period is still in development.

By most peoples logic, MMO's are always in development... If your logic is otherwise, then it's twisted. Aion 3.0 is an actual patch FYI. But nobody knows if the content will be thrown in all in 3.0, or in a series of updates leading to 3.0. Irregardless, they are revamping many features. Whether you find that to be a good thing or not is highly subjective, but the fact is a lot of content is going to be poured into aion.

I agree with what you said. I like their games, I just dont like them.

    This is an honest inquiry.

Sorry but unlike other posters I dont waste my time trying to show people whats obvious. Look at that trailer and then tell me which MMO that is already released here in the West that plays and looks like Blade & Soul so I can go and try it.

((I never played Aion I just know my neighbor hated it.))

Your neighbor? Congrats, you succeed in sounding like a complete tool.

Plain and Simple. NCSoft = Goldsellers, Botters and Hackers galore. Always has been, always will be.

The same issues that plagued Lineage, Lineage 2, Aion, etc. will also be present in Blade and Soul. That's just the way they are, folks. I vowed never to touch another NCSoft game after Lineage 2. I passed up on Aion (thank god). And I would certainly not let this game and its yummy attractions cloud your judgement. If you didn't pass on Aion, make sure you learn from your mistakes. If not, then I suppose you only have yourself to blame and the $50 you were cheated out of (along with all the future headaches and problems you will be dealing with). Yup.

But hey, if I'm wrong? Awesome.

I'd be perfectly frickin' fine if my account didn't get stolen frickin' 4 days after buying Aion. Gooddd damn, I doubt I'll get it back even if I did give them all the necessary information.

But hey, if I'm wrong? Awesome. You sound like somebody is out to get you, so you half to cover your tracks? Sounds like you realize how far you are stepping into the industrial side and completely forgetting that most people pick up games through personal interest.
You won't ever enjoy a game thoroughly again as long as you live with that mindset. The best thing for you would be chronic amnesia, I would want it too if I was as far under as you. I somehow fought my way out of caring what the industry does. Better for me, because i'm not a developer or somebody with turnover investments into these games.

I get this gut feeling that you are like a recovering alchololic attempting rehab by himself. It's REALLY TEMPTING to pick up another title huh.

It's nice that you choose your game by name brand in designer fashion. But I don't, and still enjoy aion. Can't help but take some offense to such a generalized statement.  To have someone say that a game that I enjoy even to this day  was a "Mistake" on my own part.

You might as well start patronizing parents who buy their children educational toys by telling them it's all a corperate scam because A: company only sells that specific toy to make money to fund the production of a newer toy that costs more as it is still on the drawing board... Well, that's the issue of mass production and "prototype", wheres prototypes are always less cost efficient hence needing funding from other projects. That's just life son, and not really an appropriate debate to get into when dealing with peoples personal interests in a game.

To make things clear so we are on the same page, I agree with everything you said in the first 2 sentences about botters, gold sellers, and overall issues. . I even go as far as respecting those reasons that you choose not to play. Nobody is forced to touch something they don't like.

I just don't believe that ANY game is immune to the problems you have stated. If you can't look past certain things and nit pick at everything, you won't enjoy anything. MMORPG's are the most flawed art in the gaming industry, and boy is it a splash of wet paint.

If you buy ANY mmo for features PLANNED, you are fooling yourself. Aion had a pretty long beta that wasn't that hard to get into to try it.

It's not that I think aion is a failure, it's that I think Aion is going the same way alot of the newest big name mmos are, and that is that it's bleeding out subs faster than it can gain new ones.  This is highly evident by the fact that the majority of the servers are quite empty.  The server stats that are listed on the main site are useless anyone playing on any of the dead servers can attest to this.  I play on what was one of the highest pop servers and is now little more than a ghost town filled with bots.  I, personally don't buy any mmo based off what I see is planned to be in the game at release and I agree if someone does then they are indeed fooling themselves.  As per the Aion beta I did play in it and I did get a taste of what to was coming but what you were able to experience in the beta and what happened after launch were 2 very different experiences.  The game has alot of nifty and exciting things to get you started in the game and after you get to the much higher levels, which you could not do during beta, glaring problems start to show up.  The beta only showed you what the devs wanted you to see, NOT what was really in the game.

Wow its nice to see im not the only one that completely ignores NCSoft's trash games. Some people just make mmo's to grab a quick buck.. and some companies make mmo's to grab years of the same players sub fees. Everyone has to learn on their own.  NcSoft games do suck though, and thats not my opinion... just a fact.. I was really excited when I first heard about Star Trek online.. until I saw who was developing it.  Has anyone else tried champions online? I am still recovering from the deep depression and buyer's remorse .. horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible game . I hate warcraft, but im about to go play it again.. atleast you know what your getting yourself into with wow.

The Lineage titles are good games and have been going for a long while now. Aion just sucks is all. Its a WoW clone with no content and boring PvP.

Also its the players that ruin the games by cheating, most ncsoft games have good economic systems, it's the botters that kill it.

The ncsoft developers do a good job, the ones that manage are the downfall of this company.

Are you claiming that NCSoft has anything to do with Star Trek Online or Champion's Online?

While Tabula Rasa was a failure, and Aion isn't the godsend people expected, Guild wars is one of the top rated games on MMORPG.com. Anarchy Online is still running after almost 10 years (although mostly f2p now). Lineage 1 and 2 are both still running and were big hits in their day. City of Heroes is surviving with 3 rival MMOs released or in development.

NCSoft may be a greedy corporation just like the millions of other greedy corporations. But I don't see their games as trash.

What happened to Aion? I thought it was the second most popular MMO worldwide. A success.

  • MollowMollow Member Posts: 66

Since "Team Bloodlust" (Lineage 2) is developing the game I expect a positive outcome.

And I read that Sony agreed to release NCSoft games in the western world, which then include BnS, should help make it even more positive for users in that region.

However, there is always a chance of complete letdown etc..

Wrong, Sony agreed with NCSoft to make Console titles on the PS3

And Cryptic studios have absolutly nothing to do with NCSoft.

Thought I read it was for any platform. Anyhow, Sony+NCSoft for PS3 is guuud.

  • LeucrottaLeucrotta Member Posts: 679

Well they might make a cross platform mmo like FFXI then maybe Sony will do the publishing but i dont think it will go further then that

NCSoft was very badly burned by the Richard Garriot Tabula Rasa disaster. (Over $100 million US and four years for a game with basically a tenth the content required for an MMO). They were very cautious in their return to the West. NCSoft West is basically a neutered, watered down rebirth of their previous studios and operations in the US. Hopefully, Aion's relative success will bring the needed funding and staff increases to bring customer service and support up to par.

That doesn't mean I don't have some concerns about how the game might be run, or as to the overall game design as well. For me, Aion got a lot right, but got a number of things wrong, which in the end resulted in a less appealing title than it should/could have been. I feel the same about L2 as well. It had potential to be a huge success in the west if they had just been willing to tweak some elements to better suit the Western player base.

Definitely worth watching, but I'm also keeping my expectations a bit in check.

People fell into the trap of believing the game was better than possible and were naturally disappointed. What did they expect from a Korean PVP grinder?

  • arcdevilarcdevil Member Posts: 864

    losing my faith in NCSOft?

I lost my faith in korean games, they all are massive time sinks and cash black holes that mistake grind and repetition for content.

I dont expect to EVER see a half-half-half-half (yes 4 halfs) decent asian MMO. They all suck beyond belief.

Aside from the rampant bot issue, what happened with Aion?  There's way too much text in the OP post to fish through.

The bot issue, that I played through sadly, was a sore-spot of game-play fun for me, but aside from that, though its enough, is that what the OP is referring to alone?

  • RealmLordsRealmLords Member Posts: 358

Aion a failure?  News to me.  Had a bumpy launch with tech issues, but overall I think it achieved as intended.

Bots are hardly the main issue with Aion...just one of many.  Anyways, to not go into much detail on how poorly this game was brought to us...

No, I personally won't trust NCSoft with a pre-order for the time being.  With that said, maybe this game has what I am looking for, maybe not.  I plan to wait a month or 2 before even thinking about buying this game because of how the Aion system worked.  Why 30-60 days?  Well for me personally Aion was awesome for the first 30 levels or so and then I hit the wall.  I simply don't trust NCSoft enough to be a sucker and give them my money at the start of thier games.

And well yeh if the grind is fixed a little and i can level abit quicker then ill come back just i dont have the time to grind for hours on end i have a life. XD

Dude you don't make sence you say it yourself that aion has bots/spamm/grind and you say its good game.

If an MMO is popular... it WILL have bots and spam.

A traditional grind MMO does not equate to bad lol. I prefer the traditional grind to the Quest grind.

Traditional grind is more action based, Quest grind is more errand boy online.

I really don't see how people say a Quest grind game is good personally, but if thats what they like it's what they like. Go fetch this, go fecth that, go kill those spiders, bring me food, bring me drink, get my dress fixed, go take this to blah! Blah blah blah. Thats not a fun game, thats a bad marriage!
