Second Life just isn't a game in any traditional sense and it certainly isn't filled with people looking for fun exactly. Its mostly lonely people with no lives accomplishing things virtually they're not capable of in the real world...hence the name Second Life.
Now I am not a proponent of Second Life or unicorn rape, but to say it is filled with losers with no life is a bit harsh and I'd like to point out that 90% of MMO players that I have met irl are people who have some sort of social malfunction where they have extreme trouble existing outside the game, but inside function like a normal person. Meh ... maybe more like 85% ... but you get the idea.
Truth be told the social MMO has some promise, trouble is people hide behind an imaginary persona (usually for protection of their own psyche) ... check out that Youth in Revolt movie ... people might be experimenting with personas they wouldn't work irl. Like some morbidly-obese-40-something-in-his-mother's-basement type acting like a douche-bag-California-surfer or some "heterosexual" male parading around as a horny 13 year old Japanese school girl. The bile of the MMO world ... role players ... Hey if they made Facebook an MMO social MMOs would work and work well.
And on a real world note ... does anyone actually like Michael Cera? I mean seriously the kid is an aweful actor. I mean Nicholas Cage has a greater range of emotions than Michael Cera and that is saying whole fucking lot since a toaster has more range of emotion than Nick Cage.
