xfire proves that Aion is doing great, any other AAA mmo (that was released in the last few years) left the top 10 when the free month was finished (except WoW), the longterm chart shows a fairly steady amount of played time, so i dont know how you jump to your conclusion
All Xfire proves (since I do believe it shows trends) is Aion did not become the game that stood out among all the other MMO's this side of WoW (as far as the west is concerned). I think alot of people thought Aion had a chance to distance itself from the rest of the pack as the clear cut number 2 but it didn't happen (for a variety of reasons). It makes one wonder if any game that was primarily developed for the Eastern market will ever be substantially successful in the western market (note the word 'substantially').
It wasn't primarily developed for the Eastern market. It was designed to cater to both markets from the start.
Can you name any western MMO since WoW that was "substantially" successful in the western market?
Sub numbers shouldn't be compared to WoW, which is a phenomenon. It's doubtful that any other game will ever have close to these numbers, Western or Eastern.
To be honest if they reintroduced 40 man raids the difficulty would return. The reason the content feels so much easier is because your doing it with 10-25 other people instead of 40. With a 40 man there were more people would could and usually did mess up. The fights back in the day weren't very well scripted with the exception of a few. But i do agree the WoWfan does bash aion without any credible evidence so feel free to trash him all you want. It's sad how people on these forums treat eachother.
Has very little to do with 40 man raids being taken out. That was actually not a bad idea, as getting 40 ppl to run a raid was extremely time consuming. They should have left some 40 man raids as options but not the bulk of the endgame.
WoW has been significantly dumbed down, just look at the classes being made more generic. Or, better yet, just consider how lavish & extensive the 5 mans were in original WoW versus even TBC. The game was simply harder at launch and prior to TBC, xp requirements, gold, faction grinding, group tactics (even in 5 mans), trash mobs, etc. The game definitely lost its appeal with the latest xpac for the older players while gaining significantly with the borderline retarded.
LOL
I must admit, motorcycles and a rocket ship flying mount were the final straw for me and told be all I needed to know about WoW's target audience.
Hell, you you used to have to *gasp* run to instances and get there yourself, or at least get enough people there to summon. Now you go to an instance from the main city and never have to leave. I mean seriously, why do I even have to do the instance, just form a group and have everyone roll for loot. Where does simplicity end?

I must admit that there were times (in the darkest of night, sitting in the corner with the moonlight streaming throgh the blinds on my sweat drenched face) that I thought "why not just go to a game that has robust development, huge fan base, yearly fan fair and that is just "fun" and screw everything else.
But then I saw the whole motorcycle thing and that commercial for the gun that turned people into mohawks or something and a great schism occurred and I was set free.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
