WEll frankly i never said EVE was great or perfect. EVE was ok but let me down in there is no control of ships other than ordering it to kill blah with blah weapons.
Surely you can control your ship in battles, turn to port or starboard type ?
Rev
Rev in STO you control your ship with the A W S and D buttons. So yes you do. You have a UI that lets you manage shields and power and such. But after battling a few days all battles feel the same.

I'm just tired of MMo's NOT BEING FINISHED at launch and expecting us to pay for a game while they finish it. some times its a game that was launched a year to early like Age of Conan. If that game had a do over and was launched now the game would have a lot better name for its self. War Hammer is another game launched to early. I am really liking STO right now. I will be playing this game at launch so im not a hater. Klingons are pissing me off. They through in the Klingons. They are trying to cover up the fact that they have no content made yet, and are trying to pawn off this PVP only idea on us. This is a example of STO repeating the mistakes of older games. All they have to do is tell us the truth.I bet most of the gamers will understand and wait till the game is finished. Most gamers would rather have a game finished then a game that suxs becouse its not done. But that is the problem when a MMO lets the penny pushers take control of a games.
TBH, they probably planned klingons as an expansion or evil add on, think COH/V. It seems the only reason they added them is to have faction based PVP on launch day. I haven't read a thing about PVP in STO as it is now, I would guess the only other way to have PVP would be to have Arenas or something like that (if they have that now forgive my ignorance).
I never followed this game all I know about it is what I have seen in open beta thus far or on forums. However it would seem the klingons are nothing more than a tack on, to appease "someone" (horribly).

I completely disagree, the shield management and ship control are my favorite aspects of STO. As you gain new abilities and crew it adds enough to shake things up a little in terms of abilities, the rest of the game is what seems to need a bit more of a mix up. The reason the battles may seem to grow old is because that's really all they have in beta so far, or the game for that matter. There are missions with non combat objectives though, just to few.
The ship combat revog is akin to what you find in games like pirates!. POTBS is something it's compared to a bit as well. The shield management is just what it sounds like, you have to focus energy constantly to different areas that are going down. Which can be hectic in the harder group based battles. I respect anyones opinion, I just completely disagree with most of Nir's.

I never said i had a problem with the ship shield management and such. I said i had a problem with the gameplay in general. I said combat got repetative. The auto grouping makes it frustrating too. Often it will put you wit ha group that has finished the mission almost and you get credit for doing almost nothing. This means that you missed out on most of the battle. In STO there are no roaming mobs there are either missions or group battles. Few space battles are solo battles. Frankly i do not like going to do a battle and arriving when it is pratically over.

i've been playing for 3 days now... i enjoy it... sector space is kinda shallow, and no random encounters makes me a sad panda... but overall i am satisfied.... that stuff can be added later, and hopefully will... the only thing that would kill this for me is if they bring in a cash shop.... i HATE cash shops..... but the game itself is fun
I can't really comment on the issues here, i played a few missions, blew some crap up, scanned some stuff, and got blown up. My heart's not in it.. and i am not playing it as if i was going to achieve end game..... (whatever that may be) <---- trolls back off this is not your food.. they have end game, they just havn't spoke about it.

I was impressed with the game after playing a Klingon was what pissed me off. Some are saying 30 to 45 days after launch they are adding the content. What the heck?!?!?! I was looking forward to playing a Klingon. Also having to play a Federation toon for 6 levels (it takes longer to get to 6 than you think) and spending hours on that toon to make your Klingon. Then you get to the Klingon area and there is no content.
it took me ~8 hours to get to lvl 6.... that is maybe 2 days of play for someone that likes to spend time playing MMOs.... stop your whining. those 8 hours were spent getting you familiar with the games systems and how to play. its not like you have to re-level on your klingon.... THEY START AT LVL 6......

maybe some people thought they would be able to start the game as a klingon being that are 2 playable races in the game? i can easily see how having to play federation to level 6 to play klingon would be strange. hopefully they can squeeze in a starting area for them by launch so there isn't such a big backlash from people unknowing
Cryptic did not just "drop the ball on this one", as you put it. They stabbed the ball several times with a knife to make sure no one else would want to play...
It is ok you have your own opinion of the game and so you should but I really think comparing it to the release of Vanguard is pretty harsh.
Yeah Vanguard is a bad comparison. While STO certainly has it's short comings it isn't as bad as VG. VG's issues were stability and bugs, numerous bugs lol. Wayyyy to many bugs.
STO is following CO's launch so far. To little content, very bland basic game has the same plus and same minuses as CO. It's funny because STO feels more like a CO mod than it does a stand alone MMO.
Comparing it to CO is fair, comparing it to VG isn't.
Hey Warlord just looked through thread and could see past post of you explaining game, like I said want to love this game, Ive not beta played it, of course Beta can and always option be changed, what are your thoughts on this game, from Hello my first play into another mmo type thing, if dont mind saying ?
Rev
The first 30 minutes of playing it, i found it ok but not good or amazing. Cryptic tried to make the first impression a good one.
But as one of the first MMOs in 2010, also with a huge name, "STAR TREK", its a total destaster. They took the old CoH/CO engine, you can see it everywhere, and just put some Star Trek items in it, not even in a good way.
I had a few boarding/ground missions, ground is terrible. The enemies KI is real bad, also they "spawn" randomly, most time directly in front of you or behind you. On planets, you also encounter invisible barriers because the area where you able to act is really small. They dont even took the time to "build" natural barriers like rocks or something.
On boarding missions ( i think i had 2, while most missions are space only) its ok because the ship is the area.
The first battles in space are nice, just because its first time you shoot with phasers and photon torpedos. But it soon gets boring, because its more like dashing SPACE for firing nothing more. No tactics no skills.
As i thought about Star Trek MMO i get in mind that i give an order like: "Firing tactic ALPHA 2 ! Target their warp-cores !!" and my helmsman keep shooting while I do give orders to reroute powers to shields to the engineer, then give the science officer order so scan for weaknesses or something like that. Beaming Marines on board while their shields fluctuate or something.
NOTHING AT ALL !!!!
But its just as boring as hell. Its not even possible to target subsystems of the enemies ship.
Just tab for target then dash space for shooting. If the enemies level is same or below you win, if its higher you lose. FACT.
Ok, if you are dumb you can even lose on low level enemies but thats your fault then. Space battle is just always the same, most missions are exactly the same as before, same enemies, same group.
Every thing is instanced and you feel it. No free space to fly, you got a "sector" map but thats just ridiculous.
How is it that they can make the turbolift doors, the transport room, and the bridge rediculously oversized but the planet and spacedock look like miniatures?
I do not get the overwhelming feeling when I approach spacedock, I doubt anything bigger than a few shuttles could fit in there.
They've actually gone backwards when it comes to the sharding technique. Literally EVERYTHING is in sections, even going to my own bridge on my own ship.
Why do I have a loading screen for my bridge?
Why do i have a loading screen for an area that should already be loaded?
It feels like they reinvented the sony playstation version 1.0.

TBH, they probably planned klingons as an expansion or evil add on, think COH/V. It seems the only reason they added them is to have faction based PVP on launch day.
Cryptic always had this scaling issue...
Thats so true ! Scaling is a pain.
