One of the worst MMO ideas ever. Slowly progress the players from one end of the map to the other, then watch as all of the old zones turn into ghost towns.
This, along with steep level systems and quest chains is why there's so much complaining about "no one to group with" or "server seems under populated". You do more and more to divide the player base, then wonder why new players have a hard time getting started in the game...
