Instead, Lotro revamp the "non-epic" fellowship content turning it into solo content or choseable solo or fellowship (example, the "Retake Weathertop" instance).
If you really want to play this game, you have to adapt you playing style to the population/game design at the moment. Actually, for most of the epic line fellowship quests, too many players increase level in skismishes in order to accomplish this quests many levels above. You can equip your character with skirmishes rewards insted the quest´s ones, as this ones are no probably not usefull anymore. This is a good solution if you cant find m8s in chat or kinners to be helped.
And one thing about the greatness of finding easily and fast people to join for questing in group. A few weeks ago, I join a 6 men group to get inside GB for the half keys quests chain. We had a 20 ministrel. This was so strange, as GB is recommended for 23-24, and about healing, dont try earlier. This worked more or less until the bosses. We killed them (some of us died several times...), and go to the forge to get the full key. The minis, when he was called to forge, talk about that:
-Minis: What to forge?
-Read the book in order to get the forging ability
-Minis:Cant read the book, "not avalaible"
-FS: Did you pick up the half keys when defeated the mobs?
-Minis: Nop
-FS:Ok, go back before respawn and loot
-Minis: How can I do it?
-FS:.....
Well, may be you can say this is clearly a noob, but this is not a matter of being experienced or noob, this is about of READING THE QUEST TEXT, something everybody can do. After that (and many more related), I prefer to play sólo, have kinners, and play in group knowing about the m8s and how can they work.
I just have to butt in here about the LFG tools. The LFG tools in this game are amazing it's just that no one ever uses them. Is that the fault of the tools provided or the fault of the players not using them?
In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.
The biggest problem I have with this game is the outdoor enviroment is a cakewalk. I fell asleep once and my head went to rest on the keyboard to find I was five levels higher when I woke up. :P Ok maybe I'm making that up but the pve in this game is just to easy. Every time I try to play this game I never reach the higher levels due to boredom for there is zero challenge.
You leave so many obvious clues as to why you find yourself in the predicament you are in, I come in and make an observation about your post and I become ignorant, hmm no need to wonder why you can't find a group. I thought I made it pretty apparent that I don't know why you can't find a group just let it be known what I know of the LOTRO community, but considering your reaction it is pretty apparent now you are socially inept readily apparent from your lashing out at me for a slight that was obviously never directed towards you, but what can I expect from someone who can't put together a group in three weeks.
I have a better idea for you quit mmo's all together because if you are having problems with LOTRO you're going to have a problem with all of them and lastly if you can't take criticism of a point (that never once mentioned you) stay off of message boards atleast until you get your feelings off your sleeves.
BTW you should look at all of your responses to every post that doesn't agree with you, I went to page five and have found myself and another person you called an idiot (and he said even less about you than I did) and you will see why I suspect you can't find a group for anything because you are obviously a jerk, two people don't whole heartedly embrace your opinion and you call them ignorant and the other a jerk, for suggesting you find a kin (oh and obviously if you are in a kin and have been asking for help on quests for three weeks without an answer even maybe you need a new kin don't ya think?).
I would begin to argue that you in fact are socially inept but considering how offended you got from me suggesting others might be I'll avoid it because I don't like to make people cry (which I can only surmise you'll do by how easily offended you become).

Grouping should be done for fun and for expediency, never out of necessity.
Exactly. If you have 6 people who are soling along and suddenly part of the quest chain requires a group, they will find that group/make that group, do the quest and then everyone will leave.
this is NOT the way to do it.
The converse is true as well. Having everyone be in a group and then suddenly have a soloable part. It tends to break up the momentum.
People don't find grouping to be fun in Lotro because:
The kill exp is too slow. Like in Vanguard, for players that seek to hit the cap as fast as possible, give large group experience killing bonus, so fastest grind exp per hour is doable in group.
Improve item or coin drop for group mobs. For players that seek to improve their gear as often as possible during the level up, this would be an adequate motivation.
Exactly like you mentioned, don't make the quest lines solo solo group solo group, either make a pure solo quest chain or pure group chain. Anyway, the less chains and requirements - the better.
Make the most graphically attractive looking places, to be group-only. Give there best loot for that level, and lots of experience.
Turbine discarded all this (too hard to implement I guess), and basically just removed all the group based content during their area revamp. Now noone is looking for groups, everyone is playing alone, and when they hit the end-game, they keep playing alone in their own instanced solo skirmishes. Great game.
And I wonder if something is wrong with the game or you that you are on here basically advocating Turbine force people to play with you, news flash mmorpg community if the vast majority of us weren't such know it all jerks the average casual mmo player would want to play with you and hence you wouldn't have to come on here constantly deriding games because they are not "forcing" people to have to need you all.
I may be a bit out of line because again I haven't played LOTRO in about two months but all of this was pretty much a non issue because I actually try to make friends and actually try to be nice to people (maybe as the op stated I'm just better at it than alot of people) but so what? I will hold myself on equal footing to everyone else out there if the asshole that I am can make friends in game then something must truly be wrong with you all for not being able to.
If you guys want to play a game where you in fact "need" people to access content there are other games out there for you like DF (need a good kin to avoid getting ganked all the time I hear) SWG(need groups to do those little instances they have now like some star destroyer or something like it) and many others out there that fall in one of these two categories.

Good question but when you see other games not having this as a complaint and find the majority of the players not using the tools available in a specific game for some reason I tend to side with the tools not being all they're cracked up to be or poorly implemented.
You don't even see this as a common issue in another one of Turbine's own games, DDO, yet it is a common complaint some have with this game all the time.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

While I have never had a problem finding groups, I have to admit that LotRO has become astoundingly solo-friendly to the point where you do not need groups for 95% of the game...which is a shame as far as I am concerned and does lessen the social interaction.

Is this really true, though? I'm only a recently returning player but my level 41 burglar had 21 quests, 17 of which were group. Some quests I don't mind abandoning, but if it's the end of a chain quest or worse, part of the Epic Books, they should have a solo option for those.
Requiring a group for a quest is a roadblock; a stopsign. It says "You can go no further at this time. Now go and find five others, and then get them to the entrance. Only then may you continue."
It's not being anti-grouping, it's being anti-PITA. Forced grouping quests are an annoyance. From the forums I've read that some quests, particular in the new areas, have a group or solo option. If all quests were like this, I'd say great! Group til the cows come home! Each person then gets to play in the style they prefer.

Whats the point of playing MMOs if you don't want to group with people? I'm at a lose for words..lol
Whats the point of playing MMOs if you don't want to group with people? I'm at a lose for words..lol
I see this question asked a lot. I solo a lot but do enjoy being around people and group sometimes. However I think there are many reasons to play MMO's other than grouping. I enjoy a big game world that gets bigger due to the regular addition of more content. Having other people in the game gives you someone to buy and sell from and to at the auction hall. I belong to a Kin of great people and we chat a lot and sometimes group for things but the grouping isnt so much to do any particular thing as it is to just hang out and have some fun doing something different for awhile. But more on topic, the thing that bothers me most is doing a quest chain and then all of a sudden the final stage or two requires a group to finish what you have soloed up until that point.

There are tons of reasons to play MMOs and not group up. See the dozens of threads on this topic for some great reasons.
But anyway, did you read my post? It's not about not wanting to group, it's about not wanting all the inconveniences that come with it; having to find enough players (if you can), then having to wait for them to sell/repair etc., then wait again for everyone else to get to the quest location. I could have the quest done in the time it takes.
Many of the so-called group quests really aren't at this point...they can either be solo'd by skillful play or simply by out-levelling them a bit. (Not all certainly, but many)
Equally important; none of the pre-58th fellowship or small fellowship quests are actually needed for anything....you can simply bypass them and never lose or miss out on anything.
I'm not an advocate of "forced grouping" or anything of the sort, but I don't get the logic of game devs who make a game where you can solo to the endgame and only then *have* to group to reach content. (and that's the model LotRO has most certainly reached with the latest expansion)

A shame isnt it? LOTROs gone downhill since Moria imo but hopefully Turbine can turn it around in the future for the avid Tolkien fans who keep holding on.
I hope another company tries their hand at Middle Earth in my life-time but its not very likely.
Actually I have had the opposite experience. My wife and I duo most of the time but is never an issue to find a group to run through areas faster. The community is great and I love the quest lines.
I just have to butt in here about the LFG tools. The LFG tools in this game are amazing it's just that no one ever uses them. Is that the fault of the tools provided or the fault of the players not using them?
Wrong, Wrong, Wrong.
It's not the LFG tools, but the CHAIN QUEST. No one is ever on the same part. This is the most major problem with Lotro hands down, and everyone ignores this.
I only played the beta, and come here often to find out if Turbine ever fixed this issue, and the answer is no. Please don't even try to tell me they did, and beta was years ago, because they never fixed this. Instead they made the game more solo. That must be the easer way out. There is no other reason that Lotro is not as great as WoW. Graphics, lore, game play is just as good, but it's always been a solo game. A good Guild CAN'T FIX THIS, because how can a small group ( guild ) be on the same same part of a quest chain, when the mass ( open world ) of people are not. Sure a guild can drop everything and help, but to expect them to do this every night ?
It's not the LFG tools, but the CHAIN QUEST. No one is ever on the same part. This is the most major problem with Lotro hands down, and everyone ignores this.
While I can agree with this and it is a major nuisance, what you are missing is that those quests are 99% meaningless now. None of them before Moria matter for anything. So just ignore them...and it doesn't matter. They are also a tiny minority of the quests (ones that are both group and have a long multi stage path).
Also...some of you need to understand that I am not saying it has a bad community or even that I have ever had problems finding groups....but that doesn't mean I cannot see the game going more and solo oriented. To be blunt, I think Turbine has made it far too easy for everyone playing to solo; while at the same time leaving some of the most annoying aspects to grouping.
Those two combined are "a bad thing" and lead to more and more people soloing because grouping is just too much of a hassle *and* largely unneeded.

You have a point. What's 'bad' is when a company tries to straddle the fence between grouping and soloing. Those who like soloing will be annoyed when they hit a group quest and those who like grouping will be annoyed if most things are soloable, because it makes it very hard to get a group.
An MMO should decide, one way or the other. I loathe Wow's system of solo 1-80 and then group or retire your character. I am not looking forward to maxing my character in Lotro and then being forced to raid to continue to improve him. When that time comes, I'll simply not raid, pack in that char and work on some alts I guess.
Pretty game though and if you play the trial and think you'll enjoy solo'ing to 65 all the way then buy the game, otherwise, don't. Its a PVE game, means if you want to solo you can just buy a single player RPG out there for much less than you'll end up paying for LoTRO.
Sounds to me that you are a pro grouper who is pissed with the way the game has gone but it just seems like there is another agenda here as well.
Surely you have seen enough "solo vs group" threads where the solo players have time and time again refuted that last statement of yours.
Players who mostly solo play mmo's because of the unique social experience an mmo can offer. This doesn't always translate into grouping but having an actual living world.
As far as your whole grouping thing, why don't you just join an established fellowship with like minded people who all love to group?
red highlight , yep thats me and i can only hurraaah to the companies not forcing players to fekin group nor raid, freedom of choise that is. and its sweet, im back to lord of the rings myself and enjoying it loads!
I am not looking forward to maxing my character in Lotro and then being forced to raid to continue to improve him. When that time comes, I'll simply not raid, pack in that char and work on some alts I guess.
Not really a problem in lotRO right now. The best items (by-and-large) can be obtained solo, crafting, in 3-man, or 6-man groups. The radiance gear from raids, is really only good for raids. Many people carry around non-radiance gear to use when not raiding, because it's better. There is enough good stuff in raids to keep it interesting, but not much more. I just raid, because i like to.
I like to solo. Solo gathering, solo farming, solo dungeons, random pvp that doesn't force me to have a preset team (think random arena),Solo repeatable quests, I even like soloing with henchmen. It's only a game, I've come to the conclusion that developers make games solo friendly because people suck.
I have to agree with this, some people (on both sides solo vs grouping) do suck,... I don't like grouping with elitist, hardcore gamers that get pissed if you don't have the right gear for your level, or if you don't play your character up to their expectations... That's why you'll see me solo until I find someone I like talking to.
ROFL. There has always been more solo quest than group quest in this game. The only time you need to group is to do instance runs to get tokens for armor, and I am sure one day those will be soloable.
Did you all see the new book is cooming out in a week or so, and with that all the epic books for volume one can be solo done. So no reason to have a group for them now either.
I find it funny they are making so much solo but for some things you have to group, and nobody learns how to play there class in a group until it they have to.
Such a shame to see a world that could have been so rich turned into so many istances its not funny.

Well if you can't get a group you can't enjoy the Epic quests now can you? This was done so you can get to the next volume where more people are. As a community ages it is only natural that more and more things become solo friendly so that newer people can catch up to the older players. It's the natural progression.

Looking forward to it myself.. I have NEVER completed volume 1.
I don't see why people are saying "Lotro will die a slow death." blabla. Well look at it, it been out for 3 years and still having a high playerbase. May be expansions took some players, but you know what, there's coming new players to replace those veterans. Its exactly the same with WoW.
About the group/solo thing. Well I'm a newly started player and I have NO problems at all finding people (on server Snowbourn, most populated EU server) and I find it difficult to understand your rage, they are trying to FIX that new players come and then you have a hard time to complete the story because every god damn quest is group (release, i was there yes)..
Those threads about solo'ing are just stupid.. Check it out, most people here have no problem finding groups..

"I play Tera for the gameplay"

"I play Tera for the gameplay"
I belong to a guild that was 1k members from start. Had no problem soloing or grouping and finding both equally entertaining....
wtf are you people on about? Is it that hard for people to have fun in MMOs these days?
"This may hurt a little, but it's something you'll get used to. Relax....."
Actually I have had the opposite experience. My wife and I duo most of the time but is never an issue to find a group to run through areas faster. The community is great and I love the quest lines.

As far as your whole grouping thing, why don't you just join an established fellowship with like minded people who all love to group?
red highlight , yep thats me and i can only hurraaah to the companies not forcing players to fekin group nor raid, freedom of choise that is. and its sweet, im back to lord of the rings myself and enjoying it loads!
cheers
Not really a problem in lotRO right now. The best items (by-and-large) can be obtained solo, crafting, in 3-man, or 6-man groups. The radiance gear from raids, is really only good for raids. Many people carry around non-radiance gear to use when not raiding, because it's better. There is enough good stuff in raids to keep it interesting, but not much more. I just raid, because i like to.
In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.
