Ah actually this chart would be the new one, but it's more of a direct grid comparison. Thanks for linking that one with the direct game screenshots though, I'll be sure to bookmark it.

From beta experience we all know by now that there is no need for any other class than Cruisers.

3 Cruisers works better than 1 Escort, 1 Cruiser and 1 Science vessel, or any other combination you could think of. If you replace a Cruiser with anything else, your getting a weaker fleet. This is especially true in PvP.

Science vessels are not healers btw, they are buffers/debuffers. Cruisers heal alot better. And tank better. And do more dps...

Having three classes was too much work for Cryptic.

Didn't play beta, so I must ask do Cruisers have the ability to detect cloak ? If not then I'd say a Science vessel is a must. At least for PVP.

Go with a Bird of Prey. It's the most fun ship to fly and a wolf pack of them destroys Federation Cruisers... it's all about focused fire in PvP anyway.

Bad part about escorts is you'll have to spec your limited skill points in both beam and cannon weapons.  Going cruiser or science means you'll never have to waste skill points in cannons.

I actually preferred my science ship in beta over the cruiser, but I didn't get to tier 5 or even close lol.  IMO at tier 2 it was no contest, since they had the same weapon slots, and science was twice as manueverable and had better shields.  Targetting subsystems was just a bonus.  How about flying a science ship with an Engineer character?  I had zero problems surviving any PvE content with a science ship even before the easy mode patch .

So true and with a Engineer BO with the Emergency Power to Shields skill enemies very rarely ever got to the hull of my ship. I would usually end a battle with 4-5 enemies with a hull strength of 95% or better. The Science related skills were just an added bonus. I personally would take a Science ship over a Cruiser or Escort every time. They do take longer to kill stuff than the Escort but with the added shields and science related skills it makes that not matter a whole lot. I found the Cruiser to be a slug of a ship to maneuver and it didn't really add any combat bonuses over the Science vessels.

I made a escort fed in beta and you dont have to do that at all. You can do 1 or both. You dont have to spec both.

See this is where everyone is making the same mistake. Cruiser base turn rate is slower, but they make up for it in different ways later game. If you look at your tier 2 skill you have a set that gives a bonus to each specific ship type(escort, science, cruiser) those skill will effect the entire line. So lets say you maxed out your cruiser tier 2 skill. That will increase your ships hull turn rate speed etc.... Then in tier 3 you get a choice of skill specifically related to that tier of ships, so you get another buff to the ship your flying so. End game your cruiser should be just as maneuverable as your tier 2 escort, but not as maneuverable as your tier 5 escort because they would get the same bonus.

Decide early what class of ships you want to fly. Once you do max out the tier 2 skill related to that line of ships, after that dont put any points into tier 3 or 4 ship because its a waste of skill points because you will eventually have tier 5 which will be the only thing you will be flying. So the points you save by not boosting your tier 3 or 4 ship skill allow you to put them in other place like sub systems or more weapon choice etc....
