In all my years only LotRO pulled it off flawlessly, every other game failed royally. Usually everything's fine after 48 hours or so. But if you expect to play on launchday it's almost always a disappointment...
Besides the 1st hour or so where everything went down, I have been playing the entire evening and it was pretty smooth. Although some slight rubberbanding every now and then.
yeah this is no different from any game launch in any way, though they knew they needed more servers weeks ago and they should have been preping for this by getting even more of them. Even WoW crashed on launch day a few times, I really think all the people shouting epic fail need to read up on mmo history. when you get to many people trying to do one thing at once anything will crash. Give them a bit to fix it, if it's not better by tomorrow then you can shout fail.
I dont care about other MMO's I care about this one. I paid for a lifetime sub and cryptic in typical cryptic fashion dropped the ball AGAIN. And you would think they would learn a thing a two from the past but they do not. And for people calling me a troll--whatever i paid the same amount for a lifetime sub and Retail box purchase so i will complain all i damn well please. I defended this game vigourously but i will defend it no more.
So, statistically speaking, if you were in a group of four people you'd know that one of them was a complete moron, statistically speaking that is.
You look to your left, wondering if it's one of the two on that side, then you look right and look that guy over. It can be very hard to tell on the surface just who the moron of the group is...
Then you happen to look down at the reciept in your hand for a life-time subscription to a Cryptic game and suddenly it's all so very clear.

Hmmm...
Seeing as how you bought a lifetime sub from a company infamous for dropping balls, doesn't that mean that YOU ALSO haven't learned a thing or two from the past?
Looks and plays pretty much like the Open Beta. Performance is choppy as hell. So much for the fabled Miracle Patch!

plays awesome for me haven't droped below 60 fps.
FPS is related to computer hardware, not server connection which is what he's talking about.
I've been zig-zagging often too, which is distracting. I can't complete the beginning episode quest, where you track down the Undine that was pretending to be a Vulcan ambassador. When I get to the end of the chase and beam back to my ship, it never finishes loading.
And lastly, for some reason, I can't auto attack in ground combat.
I think they took autoattack out of ground combat though, but don't quote me on that.

No issues level 10 now, the only thing was I had to DL the whole game again, but since up and running not one issue and very very smooth in comparison to many other headstarts.
I got home from work at about 3:30pm eastern time, had to do a 59Mb patch, logged in, created a character and was playing without issue. I played through the tutorial and the first mission(S.S. Azura) without a hitch in the game... not even any lag to speak of. Seems to be working just fine for me at least.
Having no problems playing the headstart from yesterday bout 6 pm till bout midnight EST then again this morning. If you have fps issues try turning the graphics down its your hardware. I have been playing the game on max on my laptop with no stuttering or fps issues at all. Drama queens need to calm down and let folks enjoy their game.
Cheers!

I'll give credit where credit is due. Game performance improved greatly as the evening went on. There are still hitches, but nothing like the zone lag and rubberbanding that was evidenced yesterday afternoon. That said, it's still not enough to make me regret cancelling my preorder. Better luck next time.

10.1.29 ... "a complete moron, statistically speaking that is." The introduction of the IQ test was followed by a classification system that used such terms as moron (IQ of 5170), imbecile (2650), and idiot (025). (later these terms were softened and classifications redefined somewhat to mild [IQ of 5570], moderate [4054], severe [2539], and profound [024] retardation)
less than one person out of 100,000 is 70 IQ Borderline, so at about 1.9% of the population at "moron" level i suggest your calculator may be in error, where you attribute, "statistically," one in four (i.e. 25%) people is a "moron" you are grossly in error! At 2% maybe one in fifty may be a "moron" ... unless his last name was Bush!
"morons" are about as rare as the 'very superior' (e.g. genius, 2.1% of population, +3 std deviations) +130 IQ are on the other side of the bell curve. About half the population is 'average' (i.e. 90 to 109 IQ) additionally, 1/3 the population + ('bright normal') and - ('dull normal' ) 1 std deviation.
I really tried to withhold my feelings here, but I am beginning to feel pissed too over the FAIL of this! Not only irregular server downtimes, game still crashing me out, NOW I have endless "retrieving characters", like so many others. This game is still in a technical mess! Not that we beta testers didn't say so, but after dozens of betas I participated I can safely say NO ONE EVER LISTENS.
STO was released at least several months too early. If they don't fix that SOON, they can trash their game right away.

I see it with every game launch, people have unrealistic expectations of how MMO launches go. Every single MMO goes through stuff like this. Anyone who thinks Cryptic isn't listening isn't paying attention. Every time there were server issues, the devs responded on the forums.
In fact, as far as launches go, this one isn't too bad. Many other MMOs (ie WoW) were way worse at launch.

WoW was five years ago, and we haven't seen what launch will be like for this game.
Cryptic knows exactly how many pre-orders they have. They knew how many beta keys they gave out. They got their numbers wrong - for whatever reason.
If customers didn't demand improvement in the goods and services companies provide, we would all still be driving Model A Fords.

LOL!!
and this is why you dont take days off work for mmo launches. They never work out smoothly, no matter what game.
just don't play on lauchday.

That's better than I expected .
the server is working fine most games are down for half a day at release with issues so far only the first hour had any sort of trouble.
So, statistically speaking, if you were in a group of four people you'd know that one of them was a complete moron, statistically speaking that is.

Steam was a disaster, but once i bypassed the Steam launcher and redownloaded it was great.
Plays well, no lag, no bugs so far.
Not playing on high settings, but it still looks good
Expresso gave me a Hearthstone beta key.....I'm so happy

What are you on about ? Ive been playing for 30 mins now, no crash....
You must be the one who caused it. You log in, the rest of the world suddenly can't enter the game. ROFL.
Hey, it could just be a very small server.
