I would still play it but wouldnt use the cash shop except once in a while.

Originally posted by MavisP Im enjoying my PS3 and think perhaps I have come full circle back to consoles. I too have a PS2, Gamecube and original Xbox. Picked up the PS3 a couple of weeks ago. One thing consoles have going for them is there are no compatibility issues. If the game is made for your console, it will run on your console with no driver or hardware issues.
The compatibility is a big plus, for sure. I bought my Playstation in 2000 primarily to get out of PC gaming for that very reason. It was a great system due the huge number of fine games.
Each console I have gotten since has been less satisfying - although I do have FF Tactics and Lemmings on the PSP. Two very sweet games.

I wouldn't mind it if it was just mostly fluff stuff like clothing and armor dyes. new pets or NPC's you have to level up, and maybe like a 10% xp boost thing that only lasting a few hours

This.
That's exactly what Cryptic does in their stores and most people hate them for just having the damn thing. SWTOR might suffer the same amount of flak (or even more) if we're to follow the trend of Cryptic critics (and they're right... I still can't believe they're the same friendly company that made City of Heroes and Villains... this might sound literally tragic or conspiracy-like but something really has changed over there).

I understand that a lot of the CoX people left Cryptic to stay working on that game.
That was before Atari took over, too, right?

I don't care if it gives others any advantages. I just don't want the game centered around it. Things like a very slow leveling curve in order to justify XP potions or very crappy loot drops to justify the nice items in the store or very rare or very limited number of or very hard to get respecs to justify buying respecs for 20 bucks in the store (FU Cryptic) or just selling exclusive content from the store and leaving the boring, grindy, repetitive content for the regular subscribers. Only being able to get permanent mounts from cash shops. It's that kind of crap that will keep me away from games with cash shops.

If I am buying the box, purchasing expansions and paying a monthly fee all content should be available to me. Thus i will not buy it if they have a cash shop.
OP!its not a yes or no answer lol!its very hard to find a way for BOX and f2p version to coexist.
if they found a system that were good for the company for the gamer and for the other gamer on the f2p front
ya i would jump in!but i dont believe on the short term f2p and p2p are going to go far together in the same game
it will be one or the other ,it will pretty much be liek it is now big title like wow that are success story will stay p2p
and smaller title that got on max amount of player to generate revenue will go the f2p route
surprisingly lot of ex-p2p game that couldnt survive with a p2p model changed for f2p and are triving
they dont make money everyday but at the end of the month they make way more then they made in the p2p format
thats why i think soon everquest will go full f2p game.they would get million of new player and in the end generate more revenue then what they get right now
i think all title with less the a million sub will got f2p soon.
its too early to be speculating on whether the game will have a item mall or not... personally i think its extremely doubtful. theres a lot of negative association with item malls at present, and their viability is still in some doubt..
If TOR has open world, non instanced large scale PvP, I might play it. If TOR has open world, non instanced, large scale raiding I might play it.
The cash shop has little to do with whether or not I choose to the play the game. If its fun, I will play it, even if it costs me more money than the normal monthly sub...as long as its fun.
What if, they have open worlds, but some worlds you have to buy access to in a Cash Shop?
I think that is more likely (if they go cash shops), they will use the DLC model for mini-expansions (access to new worlds, quests, and content). So it will be like having to buy an expansion every 2 months or something.

The only way that could work is if they went the F2P model, you wouldnt expect to have to pay twice after all, if it required a subscription to play - DDO eberron recently went with something like that so perhaps its possible, but theres no way a cash shop for additional content would be acceptable, if the game required a paid subscription. and i dont think Bioware is the sort of company that would try and pull a stunt like that.... or at least.. i hope their not.
I don't really care about cosmetic items and server transfers, items that give you an actual edge in game are a big NO-NO though.
I'd probably still play the game for the story, but wouldn't participate in any endgame or the like, where having these cash shop items would grant you an inherent advantage.
Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!
Cash shops that confer player combat advantages take away from the "game" part of gaming. It's as if we played chess and I bought myself an extra queen. Cosmetic items are ok, I guess, but I find they are a gateway drug into items that give advantages.

This is what makes cash shop games worthless for me. People like k1kalss that don't mind spending 100 dollars or more every month just to be above others.

I agree, but its also kind of in the same boat for those players that spend 100 hours a week playing games because they have nothing else to do so they can be above others as well. I mean whether its a surplus of money or time, theres nothing anyone can really do about it.
Dungeons & Dragons online style I wouldn't mind, where you get the choice of either subscription or micro-payments. Cryptic style where you have to do subscribe to play and still need to buy content I'd probably think twice.

Has Bioware mentioned subscriptions yet in any interview?
If it's just fluff items I'd probly still play. If it's anything that gives players any kind of an advantage, then no way.
