What is the best mmorpg you played? and why?

OnigodOnigod Member UncommonPosts: 756

what is the best mmorpg you ever played and why?  evri1 put your best mmo and mmo`s you have played here and say what you liked/disliked about them?

why? becouse this is a good way to see what other players think of mmorpgs and would make it easier to search for a new one.

best mmorpg i have ever played = conquer online lol its free2play they say but if you want to be good you have to pay ALOT. for your super +12 2 socket with 2 super gem -5%dmg armor with health enchant:P the comunity in this game was so great and gameplay is very nice if you can look tought the bad graphics but now since tq digital wants more money they ruined the game. and its origional from all other mmorpgs.

im playing right now : NONE :-(

i played:

WoW = fun game but they made it to easy so i quit.

age of conan = Had alot of fun at begin but gets boring after a few weeks.

Warhammer = Fail,boring   (my opinion)

Guildwars = fun! if you have all the expansions you will be busy with the quests for a long time! (if you still want to do those if you already got to lvl 20 lvl limit in 2 days)  pvp is great to

and i played ALOT of free to play games like flyff, rappels, dragon oath, lunia and many more  i dont like them...

Im looking forward for a mmorpg that is skill bases im getting sick of action bars and stuff  best mmo would be w,a,s,d to more left mouse click for slash/shoot, right mouse click for block, and other keys for combos or something.

people forgot that paying alot for games doesnt make you pro, or after you lvled grinding the same spot or instance for days so you got the best equipment it DOESNT make you pro. timing when to press 4  for an attack and 5 for interupt skill doesnt make you pro,

For me it would be Lord of the rings online. I like the pve, the look and feel of the game and the people. I also like the title and trait system. The housing system I think could be improved but it's not bad. I think once your in a good kinship (guild) it makes the game much more fun. I also like that you can get a lifetime account.

Raiding in WoW classic was great fun. And I enjoy FE.

Apart from that.... all other MMORPGs were "meh".

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

The best imo is of course to each owns opinion,however....

What is the main ting you do in these games?>>>>COMBAT !

ONLY one game is above all others for combat structure and that is FFXI.Other games such as EQ2 VG WOW whatever your taste all have a few ideas that people like, but you cannot do better than FFXI's sub class system and it's in depth class design.

The fact is most games cannot get it right,so they have stooped to allowing players to pop  stat numbers into areas,FFXI did not need this weak approach because they did design a great combat system.

Even in saying that there was tons of room to advance or better the system. This is why developers should take what Square created and better i,you would have noting short of a great combat system.

Sadly EVERY single game on the market is still years away from creating a great questing or Crafting system. They all have many faults or are just plain cheap, not much effort put into them.

Back to FFXI's combat system. The game encourages team work,i use the word TEAM not group, because that is what it does.Every player in the group has a role and everyone DOES contribute,it is not a battle to see who can do the most damage, the system does not allow it.If you try to be an egotistical hero, you may find your powerful DD player taking all the heat and end up dead quickly. The reason is that the mobs build up TP just as players do and can unleash some powerful attacks. The whole system also utilizes the Piercing/Crushing /Elemental structure witch further adds to the complexity and great design.

SO if we conclude that combat is the most important structure behind a game,FFXI wins out easily.Of course it is a PVE designed game, you can't have both PVP and PVE using the same structure, that is just dumb and once again why FFXI does it properly. If you want to look at a PURE PVP game, none of the RPG's come close,i prefer to Quake or Unreal Tournament for a much better PVP structure. If was forced to pick one,I couldn't they are all that bad, they cannot even get the FIRST basic design aspect in PVP and that is to create the ENVIRONMENT,the maps,so they are imo not even worth my time.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

    Best MMORPG played?

SWG (pre-NGE). I loved virtually everything about that game.

    Best MMOG?

PlanetSide! I'll admit that there was no end game and you could never "win", but it was just so much effin fun!

Best MMO i ever played is Everquest - at least up until after the Planes of Power expansion. The community died out a bit then, almost all RL friends quit etc.

I loved the game because it was not all fast-paced action. It was the most social social mmo experience I have had so far.  It had a "mature" player base, even though younger people played as well.

The fact that the graphics of the game never rocked at any time didn't stop me from loving it.  When you have turned so many corners the brain adapts and you don't need all the fancy stuff.  EQ let you run 2+ accounts easy with some addon and the group of 6 was perfect.

As Everquest was my first mmo after Meridian 59 or something, I know that I am biased in that way, but it is still the only game I reinstall and buy the expansions for whenever they come out :P

Other MMOs I played include: Anarchy Online, Dark Ages of Camelot, Horizons, Lineage, Asheron's Call, Final Fantasy, WoW, Age of Conan, Lord of the Rings Online, Vanguard, Aion, Tabula Rasa and plenty of others.

None of these except for WoW, before Burning Crusade, captured me for more than a few months after release. Though I would often beta test them for a long time before that.

    Eve online.

Great graphics, Awesome gameplay, A ton of options and pvp with actual risk.

The best part I get to let the gear head freak flag fly and mess with all those awesome looking ships!

    Close second:

    Saga of Ryzom

Simply the best on foot mmo since Swg pre-CU

Edit: I refuse to name Pre-CU as my best mmog since it's long been dead. Just pisses me off to bring it up.

2 MMO's that I played and liked are World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XI.

Final Fantasy XI was my frist MMO and I played it for almost a year.  I liked it because it was something totally different   Just bought the game based on the previous RPG's that I played and loved.

World of Warcraft.  Long time fan for the Warcraft RTS games, played them since Warcraft 2 and I thought that 3 was the greatest thing since sliced bread.  Have absolutely no qualms about how easy the game was made, don't remember that I had more fun in the 40 man raids vs. 10 or 25's that we have now.   Plus spending 6-7 hours practicing BWL or MC was just too much to ask of.

Horizons was the best mmorpg I've ever played. It has one of the worst launches in history and never recovered, but that game had the most potential and was doing things 5 years ago games today still aren't doing.

    examples...

Playable dragon races..including lair building and flight

    Off the charts crafting system..

Own and build your own housing, lairs, and guild towns...one brick/log/stone at a time..

Fairies and Satyrs as playable races..

Multi-classing ..one could join warrior school and second in healer school, and third in mage school ..level each up, resulting in a blend of all three. Or any combination from berserker to sorcerer. You could even have a berserker sorcerer.

A dynamic world where devs could change weather and terrain on the fly without pre-scripting or shutting down the servers.

I would love to see a Horizons 2 with the same features only add a redesign to bring up to date and big name publishing to get the word out.

The early days of Asheron's Call. So many reasons I don't know where to start.

    - The world was huge and coherent. Limited means of fast travel meant that it remained huge, even at high levels. You could run in the wilderness for hours and really feel like you were exploring. Very few places were inaccessible.

    - Virtually unlimited variations of hundreds of different gear models.

    - the magic system, at least in the early days, meant that top-level magicians actually needed to research spells. It took dedication and a lot of trial and error. No "you just got to level 100, here's your nuke spell" nonsense.

    - Many, many ways to customize skills and do it very subtly.

    - Vendor camping was a lot of fun. Vendors would hold on to loot sold to them by players for a little while. You could refresh the vendor in busy towns and see all kinds of cools stuff show up contrantly. Once in a while, you'd come across the perfect item; useless to the player who sold it, but perfect for you.

    - a serious "death penalty", unlike the pansy models of today. The risk of losing rare gear, and having to run back to get it, meant that tension was always part of a fight.

    - great community, great patronage system.

Some of the mechanics were dated by today's standards, and the graphics really show their age now but, in terms of immersion, it was the best.

Best MMORPGs i ever played are:

    1. Star Wars Galaxies Pre-CU

One of the best player driven economy and skill system ever seen in a MMORPG.

I have seen and played a lot of MMORPGs but none ever come close to that.

    2. Earth and Beyond from Westwood, killed by EA

Best SciFi spaceships based MMORPG. Unique skill/classes and one of the best crafting system ever seen.

I play this one currently thanks to the guys who manage to build a emu for that.

The Matrix Online, I know it never quite hit its stride and it was always held back either by finance and/or by having the wrong folks charge of the story (or more to the point the finances allowing only one person control of the story when it had to be made more diverse, accessible and involving for the players) but when it clicked it was something special, really felt like you were a part of something impressive. Some of the live events were really fun, there was a lot of rp mileage in the three organisation set up, the pvp was always fun, the realisation of the city, the mood and atmosphere and the abilities you weilded was spot on.

WoW: Very friendly to the new player, nice graphic style, and very polished (even at launch). If was fun to level up. In a way, I miss Vanilla WoW, but I do like features it has now. When I hit the cap I always hit that brick wall, "Oh now I have to raid to continue." What else is there really? Professions? Battlegrounds? That will only get you so far and then it's time to do something else.

SWG-CU: I actually did a trial during Pre-CU, but I couldn't understand what to do when I logged in. I was still fairly new to the MMO genre so it's no surprise I was baffled with the concept of just being thrown out into the world lol. I tried it again in 2005 after I left MxO. It was definitely a great experience to play. Funny thing was my trial character from Pre-CU was still there and I was able to redeem the Combat Upgrade plaque. I miss the game during CU. Once they started adding levels and the NGE was upon us, the game changed drastically.

Darkfall: I never thought I would say it but I am really enjoying myself. Even though I get ganked from time to time, I don't get too worked up about it. I try to bank often and avoid those REDS, but sometimes it's unavoidable. It may not be the best, but I am having fun and that's all that matters. I wish we could have more than 1 character, but in a way it's a good thing. keeps me from making so many alts (e.g. WoW). There is definitely room for improvement and so far it looks like the devs are headed in the right direction.

MxO: It will always have a special place in my heart. I love the move trilogy. MxO was definitely unique in terms of setting and how you played your character. The one thing that always bugged me about it was the Mission system. It was so damn repetitive it bore me to tears. I never did hit the 50 cap. I got close at the end, but not close enough. So long.

I've got some kind of messed up MMORPG attention disorder thing,  and have been searching for 'the perfect'   one for a while now.

runescape had pretty decent quests, and an awesome story, but..  meh

Runes of magic is a nice switch,  and the dual-classes are friggin awesome,  but..  oh god that item shop  ><

I sold my soul to Anarchy online,  first MMO I ever spent money on,  but playin though it again makes me a little sad  ><   same ol story of 'it ain't what it used to be'

I really really want to play Eve Online,  but it rapes my pc too hard

i've been thinkin about Conquer  >.>      ..maby I should give it a try

Everquest 2.  The game world is full of wonder. I enjoy the lore more than any other mmo and as has been said, there is so much to do in this game that I doubt one can ever do all the content. Im looking forward to Everquest 3 very much.

     WoW, hands down.

Folk who say it's too easy now never played on the level I played on. Folk who say it's ruined now look at the past through rose-tinted glasses, fooling themselves. Classic was so-so. BC was great. Wrath even better.

It's unfortunate my work schedule is mostly nights, or I would still be playing. But if I can't raid, not much point.

    EVE.

    1. Expansions dont cost money. Pay the monthly fee and everything is free. (even the client)

    2. Sandbox. Do what you want to do. Go where you want to go. Build an empire if you want to. Do 100% politics, or crafting, or PvP, or PvE, or science, or daytrading, etc.... its there, in the game, and its super advanced and its WORKING.

    3. Good graphics. Really good actually.

    ... etc...

Depends on exactly what qualities you're using to measure the "best" by.

In the sense of creating the most immersive MMO experience, with vast options in gameplay, in a fun virtual world to participate and play in... Ultima Online.

However, UO did of course have some pitfalls, and did get bland at times.

In the sense of being the most enjoyable MMO, I would have to say Pre-CU SWG. In no other MMO have I felt as much fun or accomplishment as I have in this game. From raiding other faction's cities/bases, creating a city with your friends and guildmates, or becoming an economic powerhouse of a crafter from the ground up, or even socializing in the cantina. This game seemed to offer a role for everyone. Sadly, well, I'm sure everyone knows what happened by now...

So it does depend what the criteria are, but for me I'd say it's a tie between UO and pre-CU SWG.

probably Everquest for me, for the amount of time I spent playing and the huge inspiration it had on every other mmorpg. It was the mmorpg that of the time was pure escapism, filled with appealling fantasy locations, and mobs, as well as manner of new systems that few had maybe experienced before. (bar MuD players)

It's hard to say what my best mmo was, but I'll break it down into a couple categories to help answer...

PvE: World of Warcraft - I only played for about 8-9 months at release, but I honestly can say that in those few months, I had my best pve experiences in any mmo to date.  I simply loved the whole range of things to kill and the somewhat large world.  I haven't gone back to WoW, but that's because I made a promise to my wife.  Yeah I know, lame.

Community: Tibia - WTF Is Tibia?!  Well it's an old 2d mmo that surprising has a large fanbase to this day.  I played for about 4-5 years off and on starting back in 2001.  When I played there were so few people it was like going to highschool and knowing everyone.  Everyone had there clicks and the ffa pvp made the game quite political.  I have no idea how the gameplay is now since I'm sure the community is quite different and larger.  Most of the time playing I'd just sit in town bullshitting with people.

Graphics: Aion - I simply loved the graphics in this game when I played.  It just felt so nice playing a game in 2009 that offered up-to-date graphics and something new.

    PvP: TBA
