Oh btw, the GA is a collector's edition pack while the mortal box is a regular dvd box. Comparing the loot bag to this would make more sense...

  • SevenOmaticSevenOmatic Member UncommonPosts: 177

The GA box reminds me of Tabula Rasa's box....we all know what happened to that game. RIP

Well the Global Agenda box which is shown above costs $59.99  shipping included

The Mortal Online Box shown above costs ~$76.50 shipping included

I'd say that's a fair comparison....  we could look at the loot Bags.. but they haven't been mailed out yet.  They also cost $100.10 shipping included...

Still.. when someone get's one please post pics here so we can compare!

just thought that i would point this out:

    From the Hi-Rez studio webbsite:

Studio founder and CEO, Erez Goren wrote his first computer game while in high school. With the crash of the video game industry in 1985, he co-founded Radiant Systems and grew that company into a leading provider of retail store point of sale systems. Erez provided store operators and consumers a product with deep functionality but with a user interface as responsive and intuitive as a video game. He drove pioneering developments including touch screen graphical point of sale terminals, customer service kiosks, merchandise ordering from gas pumps, and automated movie ticketing stations. Under his guidance, Radiant Systems won more Microsoft RAD (Retail Application Development) awards than any other company and revenues grew from $1M in 1992 to $130M in 1999. In 2004, Erez spun-off, developed, and later sold BlueCube Software, an enterprise software company with solutions installed in over 25,000 sites.

Basically, their CEO has a lot of money, and surely 'invested' a large amount of it into GA.

    StarVault, on the otherhand:

The founder and CEO, Henrik Nyström, is a true gamer with his heart on "the gamer's side" and the vision to develop a dramatically improved gaming experience. The team today is hand-picked, all with the relevant competence of MMORPG development.

While they both may be technically indie companies, with the accomplishments and prior income of their CEO, Hi-Rez is obviously better funded.

You may not know this but StarVault was formed with money from Nystrom's family. This is why he owns 58% of the voting stock and 35% of the company.  Here is the link. http://www.starvault.se/shareHolders.php  This is why I get a kick out of people that feel we need to support the company with our money.  He could simply sell some of his stock and donate the cash to getting the product done if this was simply a labor of love...

Anyhow.. another difference is that the first guy apparently built up to making an MMO by starting on smaller projects... having success from them.. and a solid base.. and THEN deciding to bite into a massive project like an MMO.   Unfortunately this is the first product from StarVault and IMHO they have bitten off more than they can chew.  We will see though (or are seeing now) as Open beta is running soon to be followed by launch.  People vote with their dollars so you will see if they succeed or not a few months down the line.

Personally.. I know nothing about GA except that they have a pretty cool looking box

That was kind of my point, though I didn't expressly state it.

Because of Hi-Rez's CEO's background, not only does he already have a butt load of cash to pour into a project like this, plus its much easier to get investors to give you their money. I mean, if I was a lender, I'd certainly rather loan money to someone who already had multiple successful projects, than an upstart company with very little to go on.

But compairing the boxes to these two games is like compairing the menues at a mom and pop diner to that of a 5 star restraunt.

when i used to rent ole nintendo games way back when, you know, before the internet.  i didnt even have a magazine subscription so i would have to judge the game by its box art.  thats how i picked out my weekend rentals - was if i thought the box art best represented whatever game i was in the mood to playing.      good times

I wish I had pictures of my Vanguard Collector's Ed. box. It came in this almost shoebox sized box lined with red velvet, had a pouch of metal coins, a figurine, a cloth map I can't remember what else. If that box proved anything it's that packing matieral doesn't make a good game. Both Mortal and Global Agenda are crap games regardless of what the boxes look like.

Completely false! Why do you lie like that!

Star Vault is a public company and got the money from investors from the start. That old bs about him beeing a golf pro, his father a star pilot and so on is just discussed to the end for 2 years ago. Please stop trolling and move along.

Unfortunately people do not like to see the truth.

That said, this is a classic example of "gamers trying to make a game", rather than "Developers making a game".

Just because you like video games does not mean you know how to manage, develop, or design one. I think StarVault and its management especially, should go back to PLAYING games, rather than trying to make them. Leave that job for the people who you know -- actually know what they are doing.

They were telling you that it would be an embossed metal box, WITH an outdated dvd (since it is in development), and no manual at all. It is only a box made since the community wanted one.

I agree that it is sad that it was delayed, and that it did not work to patch from it. I have heard that they are working on it, and hopefully they will find a solution, since that is why I would buy the box if I did not wanted to download it.

There was absolute dead silence from Starvault about the issue until October 23rd when the CEO randomly decides to update the community via the following post on the forums.

    Quote:

    Dear community.
Due to some delay on our box printings we have not been able to deliver the boxed versions on expected period, “previously around September”
We are now shipping the “loot bags” to the box company and as soon as they are finished with the steel boxes they will be shipped out worldwide. I must say the loot bags looks really nice

We will give you an update as soon as we have a confirmed date on when the boxes are being shipped from Sweden.
Don't forget you are allways able to download the client via our website.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

    Thank you for your patience.
So then the people began to rejoice and think, ok cool shouldn't be long now!(soonTM) But then the weeks went by and the clamor could once again be seen on the forums. But lo and behold, the CEO decides to update the people via...a ninja edit to the delay post from the month before.

    Quote:

    Latest update: 11/23/09

As we told you three weeks ago the shipping of the boxes had to be delayed due to logistic problems. As things look now we will have everything together in the first week of December.

The boxes will contain the current client, meaning it will be outdated a bit when you get it. As we announced on the shop website we offer to send you the release client with a separate shipment come release. We will of course honour that agreement. Seeing as the shipment of the boxes is now a lot closer to release than we intended, sending out the release client doesn't make that much sense anymore. What we're going to do is setting up a form on the website shortly before release where you can leave us a note if you want the release client delivered to you anyway.

We're sorry that things turned out a bit bumpy.
Again the people rejoiced thinking, ok sweet it should be here "soon"tm. Weeks pass by again and still no word of anyone receiving a box...anywhere. Now the mods are just straight up deleting posts with even an inkling of negativity towards the shady practices of the company. The whole month of December goes by and no boxes to be seen nor any update from Starvault. Finally on January 6th one of the community mods decides to inform the community about the status of the boxes.

    Quote:

It seems there is still some confusion as to whether we started shipping or not.
    We did.

Countries furthest off in relation to Sweden are being shipped first of course in oder to have the product arrive more or less at the same time to most customers.
Keep in mind that customers that bought a Full Loot Bag will receive those later (approx. around late January) due to the problem with the artwork book.

As you know, you are being compensated with additional free game time for that inconvenience.
    Cheers,

    Maerlyn
Gee I wonder why the fuck theres still some confusion, I mean its not like its January and the boxes were suppose to have shipped in September.......oh wait...
Finally...after several months of struggle and patience, the first of many packages are starting to appear in mailboxes around the world. However, all was still not well.
    Why, you ask?
Well because they literally shipped out a bunch of game boxes WITH NOTHING FUCKING IN THEM. You received a Mortal Online game box which contained absolutely no manual or anything at all other than a blank cd with the words Mortal Online on it. Actually I take that part about the blank cd back, because at least a blank cd could be used to burn something and thus would be SOMETHING useful. Whereas the piece of shit cd that was actually sent contained an out of date version of MO and to make things even better...NO MOTHER FUCKING PATCHER FOR YOU TO UPDATE TO THE CURRENT VERSION.
You just can't make this shit up really. I seriously can't wait to see the abomination of a launch this game is going to have, which is supposedly in February. Be sure to bring lots of marsh mellows for this sure to be train wreck which I hope ends up with the CEO being thrown in jail.

You should go back and research what happened with PotBS boxes and distribution by SOE.

Big company doesn't always mean great distribution.

Also, GA is primarily Digital Download. They offer the CE through Amazon but didn't ditribute to stores.

Im just talking about MO here and their shady business practice and how they screwed everyone that tried supporting them. Sorry but isnt everyone tired of seeing imcomplete games from lieing developers? Its practices like this that will drive the MMO trend downward.

Global Agenda is a fairly decent game from an indie company

Mortal Online is crippleware intended to be a scam, they should work on it for at least 7 years more before they could claim its close to be a "game".  Right now is like paying $75 for a bag full of air...and you have to return the bag.

The Mourning/Realms of Torment devs only sent people a re-writable cd with an alpha client on it.

The Mortal Online devs sent a cheaply made DVD with a broken, useless alpha client that can't even be fired up on it. But they did at least put it in a box. Kudos for that.

What the Mourning CDRW? There wasn't a new client to put on it. Mourning was a total and complete scam, it had even less going for it then MO has.

And with the insulting devs and "forum administrators" along with the shady sales tactics ( oh, we know we promised everyone a release client but now it's only if you fill out a form and ask for it in triplicate while under a full moon in August ) and the dvd fiasco, it looks like Mourning: The Sequel is about to commence.

As someone already stated. Global Agenda is far from "indie" budgeting.

I'm still trying to figure that out... old reviews often have "Microsoft Game Studios" tagged as a publisher, and even wikipedia had it listed at one point...

But from what I can tell, they are a private company that seems to be doing it all themselves.

I'd call it Indie... it fits the description... but it feels... off. Why? They have a freaking full sized gym in their building and it's obviously for more than 10/20 people.

    http://www.hirezstudios.com/hi-rez_culture.html

Maybe they rent, and that room is included in their contract...

Hi-Rez Studios is the largest independent video game development studio in Georgia.

Privately owned from what I can tell, so no public records seem to be available.
