So...from all the complaining...I have deduced

Electro057Electro057 Member UncommonPosts: 683

I'm not a fan of this game, actually cause so many ppl were hyped about it I was suspicious....

Anyways, I have been reading your whinebitchmoan threads, and I have decided (while downloading the beta client) that either the game lacks all promised content (I don't know what that is, and I really don't care). If this is the case, its in beta so I can handle that. My second deduction was that this game is truely a sandbox, in that everything will be player controlled and all events (quests, raids) will be in the hands of the player. So until (and if they ever) have a large player base with a average IQ of >toilet seat, there won't be much to do. So what is it? I want to know what I'm getting into.

But why do you regret downloading it? Was there not enough player held events? Were the controls funky? Did ppl pick on you? Was it confusing? Did you not like the style?

Never confuse a sandbox game with one that gives only the appearance of one but lacks a decent tool set for players to build with.

It takes awhile to learn and figure out.

Theres no set path. Basically you just appear once you finish your character and from there you just go.

Its really difficult but its just like UO and nothing telling you what to do. When you first get into the actual game after character creation you have the default "H" key for the manual.

Unless you got friends or people leading you around.

    http://www.aegis-imperium.com/wiki/

theres a website that should give you some information about the game and how to do things.

They added some creatures and stuff since the Stress Tests from what I noticed. Its alittle laggy. Stay away from the starter town  called Fabernum I think too many people are loadin into that chunk and causing it to lag out real bad.

If you start in the town Vaada you'll be able to craft and harvest inside of town without anyone killing you like Fabernum

OP I think you grossly misunderstand the depth of the failure that this game represents.   I am not sure if it is still under NDA, just go ahead and get it installed and you will see what everyone is bitching about in clear detail.

I'm doing that right now ^.^ But still it doesn't seem all that bad. I mean its still in beta..so hopefully they can improve. And I am also thinking maybe the higher ups are pushing them to launch, can't be in development forever. And really after all the failzor big releases since about 2006.........I could really use something that is half decent even.

Downloaded via torrent at a good download speed (4.90 GB). Besides that (what you are downloading isn't an installer, it's the client itself), a 450 MB patch (not going quite as fast as the first torrent, patch is also downloaded in a P2P format.

Oh man,i think you need to enter the game to find out for yourself.I was actually grinding my teeth, the game bothered me that much.

I can truly now see and understand why so many play WOW,not because the game is great, but because a simple smooth UI goes miles in attaining a comfort level when playing a game.I had no comfort level in MO,it felt painful.

BTW i noticed absolutely NOTHING happening in MO,all i saw was people whacking at trees and stones, even the huts i passed had no working/animated doors, just static buildings. All the structures that you could enter were empty, there is literally VERY little content,it feels like a big empty game with players logging in.I did not see one mob,i was aching so bad to get out of the game,i could not bear to actually find any mob,i was very disappointed to say the least.

beta client keeps crashing that much for me that I couldn't get past the character creation screen

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

Actually i had errors and crash reports pop up several times for me,but it never really crashed lmao.Even in the player creation i was extremely frustrated but found out it is the huge lag,you just have to hold down selections for a long time,i mean i had to hold down the mouse for like 10+ seconds to get it to register, that is just sad.Until i figured that out ,i thought the game was just buggy and not accepting my inputs.

Even the update patcher was bugging out,it kept saying it crashed, but it was not lol,i think it was at least 20+ seconds later ,it just all of a sudden appeared on my screen lol. Then the actual file uploading would hang forever like again 10+ seconds before it actually did anything.

Really?  For me it took about 45 minutes to download the client and about 7 minutes to download the update.

For the love of god people its not a finished product!, Its in beta.....and its an indie company building it, They do not have a billion dollar budget or a huge staff to make everything perfect, SO stop bitching that is all I ever see on this bloody website is pissing and moaning, it lags no crap there like a fuck ton of people logging on all at once then when they get kicked or droped they log right back in over and over agian.

And if your wondering well wows server or so in so's servers can hold so and so amount, they have the money to afford good equipment and so forth to make that possible, indie company kinda does not.

And I am pretty sure as the game ages they will make the combat and so on better and smoother. ^.^

Remember children its beta it has bugs and faults, thus why they have beta to fix them...Honestly the very ideas there trying to bring to life is crazy good stuff, if they could get support and get a good following then they could make a very very good game.

I have played wow for years and basically all other mmo anything and this one seems to try new things great new things, so shut up bitching and give them a chance, all your doing is being negative, and that never helps anything or anyone.

If you read all of this id be amazed lol because Im normally to lazy to read this much lol :P

Good luck in game on mortal online once they get everything running smoother....

And dont grammer nazi me I know I misspell alot I dont care got better things to do with my time then spell check :P

Well, it's pretty obvious you haven't been keeping up then, considering you aren't sure if the NDA is lifted.

The NDA was lifted in November.

First thing you need to know about MO is that the DEV team is extremely small. Its grown a bit recently, but originally it was only 12 people.

Second thing is that they have a very limited amount of money. In order to sustain development, they had to sell pre-orders of the game. They are nearing the end of that money now, and most likely will have to launch the game weather or not it is ready.

That said, the Devs have been very honest about the current state of the game, and openly state that it will not be fully optimized, or 100% content complete at launch. In fact, many of the systems will be basic systems, simply to provide the the framework for future expansions of the systems (i.e. the magic system)

If you want a very complete game, go play something else. If you are willing to put up with a very unpolished until they can iron out the wrinkles, then give it a try.

Now to reply to your deductions:

    1) So far as I can tell, they have almost all of their promised content in the game. The trick is, they didn't specifically promise as much as most games. Here is the list of promised features (even though you didn't want it.) Note how many times the word BASIC is used.

    - The full Myrland continent

    - At least 9 races, male and female

    - Blood mix and character customization

    - Main features of the skill system

    - Full PvP, full loot

    - Full melee and ranged combat

    - Basic magic combat

    - Mounts and mounted combat

    - Basic GUI for the crafting system

    - Resource gathering

    - Basic Guild mechanics

    - Basic player housing

    - Basic NPC mobs and wildlife

    - Hidden/secret features

    2) That is basically correct. But not entirely. The Dev plan is to have massive world quests on occasion. If you go to the MO forums and seach 'countdown timer' you can read a very long post/quest having to to do with only the count down timer, prior to the initiation of the Alpha Phase. They didn't even say what they were counting down to.

One other thing to note, is that the current plan is to only have one server. Possibly to create an NA server in the future if funding and demand allow and if lag requires it.

  • gatherisgatheris Member UncommonPosts: 1,016

pretty funny the posts that stated there was "some" lag

    hah i say

well before server crash and burn - and don't expect it to be up until start of business day in sweden - these guys are strictly 9 to 5vers - there was horrendous lag

just a small example i was playing with a RL friend who was practicing "snoop" on me - funny thing was the game normally notifies you that someone is doing it (which is really kinda silly - not much of a sneaky snoop anyway) but that didn't happen until a good 5+ minutes later

even worse i snooped on someone else while everyone that was nearby was waiting and waiting for the NPC vendor inventory to open (seriously long time) - repeatedly hit my quick bar snoop button over and over and over but never saw that characters inventory - turned and tried it again on another player many times and again nothing

went off to wander around for a few - chopped some wood for a few and got dumped from the game - got back in and i had to sit through the constant opening and my manual closing of the inventories of the players i had snooped so long ago - pretty funny i guess

first day of open beta and really it wasn't that bad considering - as long as you didn't take it too seriously and tried to engage in lots of PVP - that would have been pointless and very frustrating

here's hoping day 2 goes better - wish i didn't have to work

@ OP - If you can learn stuff on your way, you will be able to play the game. The one's that only  whine about that there are no tutorial and so on. Come on, has WoW got your brain that compressed so you cannot think for yourself anymore?

It is not that hard at all, 5 mins and you are up n running. Especially now when they have the small/very basic "tutorial" ingame.

It took me ~ 2 - 2,5 hrs to donwload it. Anyone telling you it takes 24 hrs are lying, or just need to pay some extra bucks to upload your internet connection, it is 2010 now ffs ;p

Come join me! I'm having a blast even though it is still beta!

Ive been downloading it using utorrent at anywhere from 15kbps to 90kbps. Its taken me almost 2 days to finish (currently at 98.2%).

Add that to the fact that my ISP adds my uploads and downloads together to work out my cap for the month, and Im not overly happy. Being a gamer and living in Australia in the year 2010 sucks massive cocks.
