@ OP - If you can learn stuff on your way, you will be able to play the game. The one's that only whine about that there are no tutorial and so on. Come on, has WoW got your brain that compressed so you cannot think for yourself anymore? It is not that hard at all, 5 mins and you are up n running. Especially now when they have the small/very basic "tutorial" ingame. It took me ~ 2 - 2,5 hrs to donwload it. Anyone telling you it takes 24 hrs are lying, or just need to pay some extra bucks to upload your internet connection, it is 2010 now ffs ;p Come join me! I'm having a blast even though it is still beta!
Ive been downloading it using utorrent at anywhere from 15kbps to 90kbps. Its taken me almost 2 days to finish (currently at 98.2%).
Add that to the fact that my ISP adds my uploads and downloads together to work out my cap for the month, and Im not overly happy. Being a gamer and living in Australia in the year 2010 sucks massive cocks.
shouldnt have to download full clients from sv anymore
Tried it and dident like it, what really turned me off was the movment and animations. It all fells clunky and un done. Will check back in 6 months and see what they have done.
pretty funny the posts that stated there was "some" lag hah i say well before server crash and burn - and don't expect it to be up until start of business day in sweden - these guys are strictly 9 to 5vers - there was horrendous lag just a small example i was playing with a RL friend who was practicing "snoop" on me - funny thing was the game normally notifies you that someone is doing it (which is really kinda silly - not much of a sneaky snoop anyway) but that didn't happen until a good 5+ minutes later even worse i snooped on someone else while everyone that was nearby was waiting and waiting for the NPC vendor inventory to open (seriously long time) - repeatedly hit my quick bar snoop button over and over and over but never saw that characters inventory - turned and tried it again on another player many times and again nothing went off to wander around for a few - chopped some wood for a few and got dumped from the game - got back in and i had to sit through the constant opening and my manual closing of the inventories of the players i had snooped so long ago - pretty funny i guess first day of open beta and really it wasn't that bad considering - as long as you didn't take it too seriously and tried to engage in lots of PVP - that would have been pointless and very frustrating here's hoping day 2 goes better - wish i didn't have to work
there been times a few devs have stayed for 24 plus hours to work on stuff

Heh... software teams that work 24 hours+ to ship a product?
That's the norm during milestone pushes. They aren't doing anything amazing, the unfortunate thing is they spend the 24 hours+ at work, and still ship a version out with the same bugs. They just keep adding more features, don't bother fixing the old ones.
There are not many features added now since they are already in the game (what the promised at launch). And they are polishing and fixing bugs 20 hrs a day.
Just follow them on IRC and you will see that there are ppl at the office almost 24/7, fixing it up as much as they are capable of!

LMAO... Is that why we have to wait overnight for someone to reboot the server? Listening to fanbots IS more enjoyable than playing, hands down.
No, polish should be accomplished by the time "open beta" hits. If the game still needs polish, then it's not even in beta yet. Beta means that your system is polished, and now you're just testing for bugs. Open beta is a stress test saying all your features are polished and bug free, now you're testing them as a whole.
But I have maintained that point of view all along, and I know from experience that deviating from a proper development method is the death of most software projects. But it's usually due to bad management, which is rather apparent here.

Is this an auto-response bot with the top 10 Defenses of MMO X coded into it??? I swear every response is a generic excuse for every problem.
Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
For the love of god people its not a finished product!, Its in beta.....and its an indie company building it.
Must I remind you that it is an Open Beta and will enter Launch in a week or two I believe? Also, Closed Beta is for Bug Hunting and Open Beta for Server Stress Test. The excuse "it's a Beta" does not apply here. The lack of content has nothing to do with wether the game in Beta or Launched and while bugs are also part of an Open Beta, most of the concerns that you will find on the forum has little to do with bugs.
From what I can see, SV seems to be panicking about a lack of funds and are rushing their release. Open Beta being for bringing as many people in the game and hopefully they will buy when MO is officially launched otherwise SV might go bankrupt. I see no other explanation to be honest, most will agree that the game should not release for a while longer and the game is in a bad state so why are they not listening to their community stating the obvious?

as for the last line
nope - definitely didn't go any better server lag wise and server is once again out for the count because everyone goes home at quittin' time like it is some regular office job

Can't blame them with the slave wages they are being paid. If they worked overtime they would be well below minimum wage in just about any country except Zaire or Haiti.
This is an inexperienced, somewhat ignorant, pompus, arrogant, spoiled brats dream that daddy financed and it is going to crash and burn like most half baked moronic ideas do when they meet the harsh light of day.
DnL was so much better then this, and it was total crap.
Anyway that said I have the popcorn popper fired up, the beer in the cooler, and the munchies lined up to watch the official trainwreck in the next week or so. Gonna bring back so many good memories of the Deceit-n-Lie fiasaco. Can't wait.

DnL - certainly don't think it is anywhere near that bad
For the 50th time the game won't be complete at launch and won't be for a while. If you want a polished game play another one or wait until a few months after it launches. The developers themselves have stated this. I find the game fun and it is certainly not for everyone. The animations are slow and realistic, not "1click=1attack" animations. You have to time and plan. I like it. But again, it's not as fast and action-y for a lot of people. If you don't like it, don't play it. Most of the major bugs will most likely be worked out, like superlag and the sort.
Just bare with them if you like their concepts. They are by no means a AAA company, but they do have a very good concept and so far it's pretty fun in my opinion.
The game takes a while to figure out, at least there's a help function when you first enter the game. In the meantime, the server has been lagged continuously because of the influx of players, and when it isn't lagged it's down from a crash. I don't know how anyone can try to judge the game based off that. It does lack content, they're adding more mobs (mob types too) to the world in an upcoming patch along with some other last minute fixes/additions/tweaks before launch.
Right now I can totally understand people not having a blast with the game. It's all you can do to take out your weapon, thanks to the lag, and the people they're dealing with are either 1.)new like them and don't know how to do anything, or 2.)killing them. Once the lag is corrected and more mobs are in it will be a better experience for them. The UI is a little clunky too, although compared to some games, aka Darkfall, it's not that bad.
Most of the people who are bashing the combat are probably using the starter axe, which for some reason is the slowest thing ever. I can see why they'd think the combat sucks with that weapon. Other melee weapons (ALL OTHER MELEE WEAPONS) have a much faster swing rate, and much lower charge time. The axe is not meant for combat, but for resource gathering. Oh well, hopefully enough of these testers will see some potential and treat the game as a beta and not a finished product since that's what it is. We may even see some people sub up from it like we did with the stress tests.
To those who say that an open beta is the finished product, just a stress test, you're wrong. There is no one official definition of a beta or any of its stages. It is what it is and nothing more. The devs mentioned in the same news post that they announced the open beta in that there would be a content patch with fixes/tweaks/additions and that at the same time the server would be strained. Everything that is happening so far is to be expected. I'm not too worried about all the bashing going on on these forums, which is why this is the first response I've made all day, and it's only to give you an idea of what this open beta is like.
OP I think you grossly misunderstand the depth of the failure that this game represents. I am not sure if it is still under NDA, just go ahead and get it installed and you will see what everyone is bitching about in clear detail.
Well, it's pretty obvious you haven't been keeping up then, considering you aren't sure if the NDA is lifted.
The NDA was lifted in November.
Plus you can't really be an open beta AND have a NDA in place.

Despite the constant notion towards the "starter" axe, you can get a very good feel for PvP even at the highest levels.
It's the exact same thing, just with faster swings. Oh, and you can cast heal on yourself and maybe a few other spells. But basically, your main damage comes from melee or archery (overpowered), and all you do is circle strafe your opponent, wait for swing resets, and then charge back in.
It's a counterstrike knife fight, and the starter axe gives you very good insight to how PvP functions at the highest levels because it's the EXACT same thing, just slower in the beginning. The idea that this is UO, where there are spell combos, reversals, combo breakers, 'mana dumps', etc... is ridiculous and preposterous. Combat in this game is atrocious, and if people are hoping to stick with it, SV would have been well advised to stop working on the fluff like housing (which also sucks) or thievery (totally imbalanced), and focus primarily on the combat because it will actually RETAIN customers.
Do you think they are going to retain customers by having neato crafting skills, but all the PvPers want is the 2 handed sword? LOL

is there even a lead programmer?
seems unlikely with the scattershot patches
