i would be too they didnt let you do new forum for them but let this guy do patcher. worth a thread isupose...
Well, since I never offered to actually *do* anything, I think it's a moot point. Maybe they wanted me to donate my time for free to do the work for them. Sorry, but my time is valuable and I only jotted down an idea for them to implement.
Ultimately, they got some sucker on the board to do it for free as well. Just like the patcher.

This is unheard of.
Hahaha you're a joke. Most of your time is obviously spent on this forum, bashing MO.
Contracting out to other people and third parties is a normal thing for company's to do. Most games outsource model production so that they can focus on the game play side of things. It's a very common practice for single player games and MMO's. Why do you think when the game is finished and you see that long list of scrolling credits it mentions thanks and such to other company's.
So what is the difference here? So they didn't want to pull programmers off working on the client to spend days making a patcher. Instead they found someone else qualified to the job and payed him to do so. Nothing new there at all.
I like how people like to look for faults in company's and such even when the people themself's have no idea how the industry works.

If I was working on a project for somebody else, I'd also expect to be paid.

Priorities, priorities! You see, spreading the "truth" about MO and making sure people avoid it is very important, donchaknow?
It's all very simple. Hercules wants people to avoid MO because if they try it, they might like it. Unfortunately, with the current state of the game, for every one person that likes it, probably 10 more think it's buggy, unfinished, and not worth a sub. This will lead to an inevitable lack of subs and, consequently, the closing of the game at some point in the future. If MO dies, then all the people who enjoy it will be very sad pandas. Hercules doesn't want to see that happen, so he steers them away from it now, before they can try it.
He's like a shepherd guiding his flock away from a radioactive, barren wasteland to a green pasture with little bunny rabbits.
(Hahahahahahahahah!) Erm, I mean, you see? The logic is undeniable.
Edit: Fine, he admitted he was getting paid (finally!). Way to ruin the fun and lose the opportunity to make yourself look like a hero, Hercules.

it doesen´t work, lot of ppl, including myself, having problem with it on forum, revision error, at least the patcher supposed to work correctly at this point of the development.

What an utterly proposterous move to make. Kind of makes you wonder who has done the coding for other areas of the game, doesn't it? Especially when one considers that the actual game doesn't work any better than the poorly coded patcher.
Does two plus two equal four in this case? I certainly think there is a connection.

Food for thought.
hurr durr garble darble world is coming to an end! gaming company uses contractors oh my god somebody save the children.
Lol. Well, it is no news that IT-companies (all companies) uses consultants/contractors. One of the biggest company in Sweden have like 25% (if that is enough) consultants, and I think they manage to make phones anyway ^^
It is no news at all. If you do not have/want to have it inhouse, go find yourself an consultant to do it for you!

Hardly.
I wasn't taking a " the sky is falling" approach at all. I suggest re-reading what I wrote, and then actually taking the time to try and comprehend it. Rather than just spewing out something you heard someone else say before, in a misguided attempt to appear clever.
I should report you for trolling, because that is all you have done by making the above statement. However, I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and hopefully you take the time to write out an informative response explaining why this latest piece of news regarding the patcher should not be a surprise to those of us that consider it to be just that.
If you think that this is standard practice among game developers, you couldn't be more mistaken. Keeping it in-house is the standard and very few game development studios hire outside consultants to work on there projects, hence why it is such a shock to those of us who are legitmately informed on the subject.

IT companies have absolutely no bearing on this discussion, as they have zero to do with game development or the company in question. Making blanket statements like "all companies use consultants/contractors" and trying to pawn them off on us as facts, is simply false and in no way accurate whatsoever.
Your comparison is way out of the ballpark in terms of the discussion taking place here, and seems to be little more than a poor attempt at justifying SV's decision to take such a route with there game. If you can provide some legitimate, accurate data showing other game development studios that are using outside consultants to code on there projects, please do so.
Consultants are used to develop or migrate applications for which there is no inhouse expertise.
So basically what SV is saying here, is that they don't have enough knowledge to program anything like a patcher -- even though I gave them the code snippets for it months ago -- so they contracted it out.
Which goes directly against the idea that they have any "programmers" on staff at all. They have a bunch of Unreal Modders. And you folks think they will solve complex database issues and network problems? Jeez. You're in for a rude awakening.

Obviously your time doesn't seem too valuable because you have enough of it to nit pick everything SV does.

The patcher works great, I dont see the problem.

Of course I get paid. I only post while I'm at work. When I'm home I don't post here.

I can see why but who would pay you to discredit a game? No doubt another company but then it really says more about them than SV.
Where's your point? As long as I get improvements I dont even care if Kunta Kinte writes it. Why complain when they are trying to get things better?

I'm not getting paid to discredit a game. I do that for fun.
I get paid for my job, where I get to post on MMORPG during my workday. It's like a perk, and since I'm the boss... it's a win-win.
Where's your point? As long as I get improvements I dont even care if Kunta Kinte writes it. Why complain when they are trying to get things better?
I'm not complaining about the patcher.... I'm just amazed that they let a supporter write such a major part of the game.
And it doesn't even work right. Heh.

Finding someone less inept to build it was a good move.
I win!!! LOL@U
I'm speechless...

Hey, we all know you get paid to bash the game. Or, you might as well, since you do it all the time (you must work alot, right?)
