i read this and what i read made me thing more of !!if you need a comparision it would be halo meet wow !deeply meshed together.
its very hard to explain and the way i saw some title i think there are lot of era in this serie!

Well it's NOT going to be 'halo meets WoW' firstly beacuse Halo is a FPS, and they've clearly stated it's a MMORPG not MMOFPS, and secondly it's likely to be more akin to it's fellow IP title WAR then WoW mainly because dispite then faction gameplay inbalances and heavily focused on the instanced parts of the game NOT the Forts/keeps - WAR kinda works.. With 40k they just need to scale in back more to 'guild vs guild' (more likely to be called troops ala like the tabletop version refference :)) and I hope it's more focused on capturable objectives in the open world as the 'endgame' so the world is constantly changing not 'static' as with most MMORPGs then relay on instancing their content..

And as for the comment of 'Wow in my soup' - I said that because most of the time any MMORPG that comes out these days is instancly dubbed a 'wow clone', not matter if it's a scifi or fantasy setting 40k isn't going to break the MMORPG mold, reason being is that the 100 pound gollira that is WoW which most people claim games 'clone' is in fact the very basic goundworks of any MMO: WoW has never broke any new ground with MMORPG it's just refined everyone elses ideas and put the Blizzard stamp on it, hence the burger refference - 40k WILL be dubbed a 'wow clone' for simply being a MMORPG, sad as it seems it will happen.

like i say warhammer 40 k in the book is in a totally different erra.rpg comes in many shape and form since it means role playing game

During the call, THQ boss Brian Farrell mentioned to investors that the 40K MMOG would be fully unveiled at this year's E3, encouraging the investors to come by and check it out:

"The highest ranking revenue opportunity for us clearly is the Warhammer 40k MMO. Again, I encourage you to come by and see what we are seeing at E3 with that when we fully unveil it, but we think we are going to have a very competitive MMO. "

Read the full story over at CVG.

EPIC WIN. What's more is this is THQ / Relic...not Mythic.

Unfortunately, this is incorrect. Well, not the part about Mythic, that part is true, but this is not Relic.

I just want to clear this up because Ive been reading it a lot in this thread.

The Warhammer 40K MMORPG will not be developed by THQ/Relic.

The game is actually being developed by THQ/Vigil. Vigil led by designer Dave Adams, formerly of NCSoft. That's right folks, the same NCSoft that has brought us the likes of Aion, Lineage, and Tabula Rasa.......

I'm just kidding about the last part, I threw it in for shock value. Dave Adams didn't actually release anything under NCSoft.

One more time, just to clarify. This is not being made by the same company that made Dawn of War (Relic), it is being made by Vigil.

Still THQ has enough respect for the IP that I'm sure they know what they're doing, and handed the project off to someone they believe can deliver.

I hope it's as good as the current Warhammer Online, that would make for another excellent game!

beats me since its a completelly diff story .its named warhammer but the 40k serie is in the futur of its in the far very high teck past

cant recall wich one it is but one thing is sure !its very different then war.it might have the same start of name but the 40k serie is way more epic its a freaking long story!

Hopefully, THQ/Vigil will also try something new.

When there were the blog post to frontpage news, I commented on my thoughts for how it should be:

Take DoW 2, expand the squad dynamic where you have your squad, never just 1 unit player characters. 6 factions, all at war with each other (Marines, Eldar, D.Eld, Tau, Orks, Chaos) across the galaxy. With the core PvP (which is what drives every good games workshop game, mass-army pvp) in place, then you set PvE skirmishs like super DoW 2 co-op mode where 3 of the races will be staving off the Necron threat, and three others stave off the Tyranid threat. Then you setup "Battle Planet" sites for PvP, but use the traditional 40k Deployment rules to guage/govern pop balance, so its not just "Spam fotm squad" fights.

    Lets Push Things Forward

I knew I would live to design games at age 7, issue 5 of Nintendo Power.

Support games with subs when you believe in their potential, even in spite of their flaws.

I will keep my eye on it if they manage to keep the game true to it's tabletop counterpart (as much as possible) without making another EQ/WOW clone.

Idea 1: Squad control. Each player should be in control of their own personalized (and customized) squad.

Idea 2: NO levels or skill grinding. The game should be juast as the countertop equivalent with heavy emphasis on unit variety (and tactics) for your squads.

mm if i understood the basic start of the 40k ,its basicly this

a lich of a sort has been the ruler of the galaxie for 100 century and to cross this vastness they cross trought the realm of demon(of a sort)etc i think its in the futur but since some part of the galaxie are very advanced and other are very backward(it doesnt mean they arent deadly.if any read from the start in 1999 it would be nice to have a bit of a story on this because

i think i just barelly made a scrape on these story from the number of book they seem to have released

The lore of WH 40K is very deep, dark and mysterious. It is a brutal time in that age of the galaxy. Threats to the human star imperium lurk at every corner of space(and beyond).  Below is a link to the wiki article on the Emperor.

    warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/The_Emperor_of_Mankind

Then some on the Space Marines(which I suspect player characters will be members of). Either Imperial or Traitors(corrupted by the Chaos gods).

I worry it will be another Warhammer online... A shallow Empty shell of what this Universe has to offer... God I hope im wrong.. and hell if the game play is good Ill be able to look past that.

If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude; greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.

You guys wanna bet that we are going to see female space marines?

That is why I hate "girls" playing games, they completly ignore the lore and cry for "OMGZ I WANNA BE A FEMALE SPACE MARINE LOLOLOL1111"

I would be willing to put money on that!

Being in a rather cynical mood today, I would say that I would even bet that we will see cross-race guilds.... Space Marines and Tau and Eldar working together for the Emperor, The Greater Good and the survivar of the Eldar race.

    Sounds good to me.

But it better not be another WoW, LotRO, AoC, WAR, STO clone! You know, choose class, do quest, get reward, level up and repeat.

It is very difficult to take a board game and make it into a MMO, so don't get your hopes up.  Secondly, another shop without knowledge of making a MMO, so many have failed because of lack of expertise.  Just have to wait and see, but history does not portend a good ending.

As it has a Games Workshop IP (which I believe is very expensive) I think it is doomed to become a mass market game, so the choose class, do quest, get reward...mechanism or a part of it will be included. The problem is that this mechanism works for so many years and was the real cash cow for a lot of game developer studios that no one has the guts to try out something very different from old always used mechanics.  I don't have much faith that any "wonders" will happen in the MMO genre but so I will not be that dissappointed if it sucks anymore. Developers will only change their way of making mmos if it hurts their bank accounts.
