DF is about survival and actually leveling your character to "heroism" standards, you will actually need a plan to play this game, and holy crap you actually have to think for once while playing the mmo, something that has not been done since UO. DF provides a very different experience each time you enter the game world. DF is about survival and if you aren't willing to challenge yourself then this is not the game for you.
Actually there's not much thought involved in killing goblins/trolls/hobgoblins for 3+ months straight its pretty simple.
If you are still killing those mobs after the first 2-3 weeks you fail.
You clearly missed the point, which is that killing any mobs for 3+ months straight requires no thought.
Originally posted by Seytan Um not true, IT IS NOT EASY for a new player to get lost kit back. Why I will again state the starting array of quests needs to be repeatable, those that provide a piece of armor, a weapon and so on. ALL OF THAT STUFF IS JUNK ANYWAY, hell you cant evel level some stuff with the basic weapons. Further in the three weeks ive been playing ive seen new players appear, go fight gobbo scouts, lose everything...then run around trying to find a way to make it up. ALSO...the basic kit needs to be reduced in price, a set of leather, studded, hell even cloth, will clean out a new player, and you can LOSE IT ALL IN ONE DEATH. So lets cut the bull here ok? I actually play the game.
It is not really true at this level of gear.
If you lost your set of leather/studded/chain and your basic weapons, you can easily kill goblins, kobolds naked with your starting weapon. After an hour of kobold hunting you end up with plenty of arrows, r0 2 h swords, bows, polearms, chain armour and probably 400-500 gold. An hour on trolls gives you 600 gold plus regents. I don't even mention skinning loot: tooth, eyes, claws, blood.
That's more then enough gold to buy crafting skills and craft everything you need by yourself. R0-10 weapons, chain, leather and studded armour it is all you need on the beginning. Most vets won't even bother to loot that. If you get looted you can start thinking what went wrong during the last fight, because obviously your killer was on your level.
The problem starts around r40 weapons and scale armour. If you lose this kind of gear, it actually hurts. Even assuming you can craft that gear by yourself, it takes a considerable amount of time to gather resources, refine them and craft new gear.
I would say that r40 weapons and scale armour and better is the moment when life in a good clan starts to have more advantages then disadvantages.
Reread my post...the example I gave I see happen constantly...and people ask me for help! Hell im new too. THE EXAMPLE I GIVE...is one in which they DIE to scouts...get it? They CANT KILL THEM. So what then?
No, its VERY easy to get gear at these levels, to the point that it doesn't really matter if you die. I started to play 1 week ago and I have no problem at all.
Yea, I also died a couple times to goblins the first day when I started out. So what?
Don't buy gear from the vendor, it's useless. The cloth gear that drops from the goblins is more than good enough until you can craft your stuff yourself.
I have been playing casually for 1 week and I have several skills like weapon, lesser magic, etc.. at 50+, greater magic well on its way and I craft my weapons and leather armor myself.
This game is very easy on new players. It's so easy to get the stuff back that I really don't give a fuck if I die.
Franky I could give a rats ass about your experince. Im pointing out what seems to easy to some.... isnt easy for others. Tonight I gave away my frist mount, sets of banded and a assortment of axes, bows, and weapons all ranked to help a new player. Im a sucker for the belief that by helping new people get started they may make a commitment to play this game, and maybe one day this game will not be centered around racials feeding on each other in starting areas but rather...become part of the larger game. As it is? This game is dreck in allowing new players to get up and started. This isnt hard core...its crap game design.
edited to add, you dont need to be a genius to see the most stellar failing of DFO in this respect. This isnt a case of the mountian coming to Mohammed, THE MOUNTIAN IS TOOO STEEP!
If some people are so retarded that it makes the Darkfall newbie experience too difficult for them they should blame their brain disability, not the game.
Furthermore, when you fail at learning how to play a game and you also give a "rat's ass" when people tell you how to do so, you should better look for another game better suited to you instead of complaining about a lost cause.
Within my first hours I had so much stuff I didn't know what to do with it. My bank was so flooded with gear that I had to sell my drops to the vendor. As I said, the key here is not to purchase gear from the vendor. But I can understand that kids 6 or 7 years old could have a problem with this game, it is obviously not for them.

It doesn't require 3+ months to be able to 1v1 or group fight effectively against most players (the odd 1% of people with 400+ hp are a bitch). You just want a fantasy version of planetside, no progression just PvP.
Actually there's not much thought involved in killing goblins/trolls/hobgoblins for 3+ months straight its pretty simple.
If you are still killing goblins/troll after 3 months and when the mobs you kill are too easy for you, maybe you should move on to some more difficult mobs....? But you seem to prefer to grind, I prefer to >play< the game.
I have been playing for 1 week and I have already been killing more different kinds of mobs than you, many are a real challenge.
But see, here we have a detractor complaining about the game being too simple, and the next post is from someone "raging" about the game being too difficult.

Well to be fair, the NPCs are the same anyway.
I just find a tree, house or rock to hide behind. This eliminate the npcs range weapon, and I use melee when it comes close to get me. It doesn`t matter if it`s a goblin scout or a gravelord, the behaviour is the same. The only difference is, I`m stronger and so is the NPC. The NPC grind in Darkfall is as boring as in any mmo.
It`s the large battles that makes Darkfall outstanding. When those happens, it`s the most fun I`ve ever had in an mmo ever. Large battles in DF is even better than my best UO moments.
I`ve seen a char with your name at a siege once. That char didn`t bother to equip any decent gear, combat looted and got killed repeatedly by his own alliance for bad behavour. I hope that wasn`t you.

Some people skill up that way and enjoy that path. The great thing about Darkfall is you can play however you want. I myself like a combination of those, I skill up like mad but also take time out to explore, craft, and do other things.
It amazes me how many people continue to nit pick. Either play the game or don't. It's not rocket science we're talking about here folks.

Main difference is that, in Darkfall, killing the same mobs over and over again can be fun, because of the AI, and because there is constantly danger from other players.

Exactly! I don't really care what you do in Darkfall, it's ALL fun...at least for me anyway. I get a rush from being paranoid all the time lol, it's great fun not knowing what's going to happen next. And PvE is a blast because it's skill based.
Bah lol, I can't believe I waited so long to try Darkfall again!

Eh nope, I always chose a name that fits the game lore. Imho, Bigmango would seem a little out of place in Agon. An mmoRPG isn't an FPS after all

Haha, you are just like the rest. Do you seriously think RPG = LV?
I do understand why some of you new players think level is the same as role-playing. Most of you have never played anything else than level games. Today I`m going to role-play a person going from level 14 to level 18, or today I`m going to role-play my archery from 73.8 to 75.

What does this have to do with leveling? Haha, now you're just making a fool of yourself.
Ohh, you must be Roxxor The Pwnzor, one of those whiners complaining about Darkfall not being an FPS and that you can't kill high level players from day 1.
