Darkfall or Age Of Conan?

WazMeisterWazMeister Member Posts: 149

I playd AoC at launch and enjoy it, I left and then returned and played again and still enjoyed it but the constant rapage pvp and ganking went from funny, fun to boring, tiredsome... worse mechanics ever and I left once again.. this was about 9 months ago or more.

I played DF on launch enjoyed it but got bored and left, last week I gave it another try and am enjoying it alot! but Im not sure what it is.. but my mind keeps playing tricks and telling em to re-try AoC.

I was checkign the site and the new stuff/fixes added and it seems to have had alot changed....... whats your thoughts?

I wouldent mind giving a PvE server a try but I heard their near empty in AOC....  and I dont really fancy paying money to transfer my level 80.

Whats your thoughts on both?

I can't comment on Darkfall as I haven't played it. From the pictures I have seen from the game the graphics seem to be lacking but that is pretty common for an indie mmo. AoC has a bit of a revival I think, still the best graphics in the genre if that matters at all to you. I play it off and on, the server Set seems to be a pretty active pve server (although the mid level areas are still a bit empty).

I have just started on the wiccana server there are only 2 pve server's now. What I can tell you is it seems busy to me lots of people in the starter area and a fair number running around the rest of the server as well. I'm only level 26 so I haven't gotten in to the higher level areas yet. my guild has over 600 members a fair number of alts but there are 20 or more people on every night. come on back the water's fine.

AOC is a better overall game.

PVE servers are NOT dead (especially Wicanna). If you don't like ganking and PVP servers I don't see Darkfall being your game.

Age of Conan has a very fun combat system, and casters just went under a nerf to bring them in line with mele (finally!)

Not sure if you used it already, but AoC offered anyone with a lvl 80 one free lvl 50. It's a option upon creation.

I also would NOT worry about not having a high toon on a PVE server, because quests are so much more enjoyable when you're not getting ganked all the time. Plus, there has been a ton of content added, and polished.

AoC is by far better although they are different game sof course.  AoC has a free trial too!  Darkfall doesn't :(

    Thanks for reply guys!

I love df ganking, because its nice and ur in a team most time.. AoC was always 5 vs 1 and they just chase till ur eyes bleed!

I might come back, in PvE server can we still PvP?  Im UK, so which Europe servers are the most player numbers?

been playing AoC on and off for a wile and wile it's no perfect mmo it's far better then Darkfall. i only recently tryed Darkfall attracted by the Oblivion like, first person combat view but sadly didn't get past the first 5 hours of play before deleting the game. Darkfall just has bad graphics, bad world, bad combat, bad effects, bad sound, and i still can't belive i actually bought the game instead of waiting for a free trial. Fallen Earth does the whole first person combat way better and has a free 10 day trial.

You're playing Darkfall now and enjoying it, if you try out AoC you'll be back my friend.

    Darkfall

    Pros:

    Better PvP

    Sea combat

    Seamless world (no loading screens)

    Better AI for PvE

    Best combat

    Cons:

    Tough grind

    Frustrating at begining

No solo play (if you're a solo player)

    AoC

    Pros:

    Best Graphics

    Best Sound

    Best solo experience

    Lot's of content

    Fast leveling

    Cons:

    Bad PvP

    Sieges broken

    No endgame

Instanced and zoned world (loading screen fest)

No immersion (feels like a single player with a chatbox)

You'll be coming back to Darkfall in no time!

If you are worried about things being empty as a cause for concern then just remember AoC has about 5 times the population. Both games are good but the 2 things you bring up about being bored of being ganked and population are things that DF revel in.

AoC has more PvE content and better fluid PvP mechanics. With the expansion right around the corner and an AA system there is no contest.

What is important is you pick something you like for you at the end of the day, so long as it is fun.

lolz False on all accounts. I've been playing darkfall for a week now and have only been ganked twice, and one time I kinda asked for it. Also, there is only one server, plenty of people to play with. I haven't seen it empty since I started. Bored? Right. There are plenty of quests and even if you arent into questing you dont have to do it (questing isnt the main focus and ends up taking the backseat) you can go look for a house, get your foraging skills up and try building a raft, join a clan and do some pvp, or even just adventure since the world is seamless and has a nice amount of surpirses.

Real life brings repetition and pointlessness too. The only thing real life offers is Great graphics. Its kinda expensive too and way to dependent on the cash shop. Totally pay to win as well. No thank you. Ill stick to my games.

AoC is pretty standard and decently made MMORPG. A safe bet. Darkfall is a risk.

Look he says that he is thinking of trying PvE, AoC has better PvE more monsters than goblins, 1700+ in the bestiary, over 2k quests, more items, better progression. So if PvE is not DF focus as you put it, then the guy might have more fun reaching out further in AoC. He can join a guild, build a freaking city, gather renown points, he can forage and adventure all in AoC too. I spent 2hrs one day in DF adventuring on the island furthest south, got there, found a neat looking statue, a door on the face of a mountain and some stands with flames around it, except it wouldn't open, was there for show. Found that all over the world. I actually liked adventuring around in DF, but the world felt so empty, the quests were boring, there was hardly any wildlife, only less than 8 different mob types came across and the grind for skills reminded me of Runescape. It is just outclassed by AoC in nearly every area, but it does some things right forsure.

I don't like Darkfall, it was a huge dissappointment  when I first had the chance to try it out, and from what I've heard it still sucks a whole lot.

But it's still an insult towards Darkfall to even mention Age of Conan in the same sentence, that game sucked so much I doubt I'll ever get rid off the stench.

    My 0.003 cents.

I feel like Darkfall is a better PVP game where you do what you want, sandbox experience.

AoC is more themepark run of the mill, but a well made game after they fixed it altho the pvp was and always will be inferior. I would prefer DF but that's a matter of what kind of gamer you are.

I played AoC at launch for a month and a half and then a year later for about the same.

I have been playing Darkfall for a couple weeks now.

I love Darkfall. I do believe it is the best mmorpg ive played in years. I wish i had got in this game earlier.

IMO Aoc , Wow and Aion are all barbie doll simulators. They are more action adventure than mmorpg. They are all about getting that next piece of gear , nobody does anythign in those games unless they are getting gear or points to buy gear with. I personally like to login to an mmorpg and make my way through the world through exploration and pvp.

I love PvP, hence Df and why I left AOC awhile back, because i couldent call it PvP it was just a big mess of crap going on.

    lOL

But i did enjoy the quests, but being level 80 i would want to raid and reading other forums it seems most people are only doing t3 now and not 1 or 2 and its meant to be pretty buggy.

I dunno, think I may stick with my DF as its keeping me intrested and maybe try AoC down the road when the expansion is out or a free char transfer opens for me to convert to a Pve or a PVP RP server.  some nice welcome back deal be good too being honest :)

    Yes,

Think I givbe it a try when I get the time to reactivate account.  Anyone suggest the most popular EU serber? IM currently on Fury.,

    Im thinking PvE/Pvp RP

    couple things of note:

DF has a wonderfull and ever evolving endgame.  One feature not mentioned is area control, of which DF does extremely well and AoC has yet to polish/incorporate.  Area control is somewhat similar to EvE, in that Guilds need to take a solid investment in thier guildmates, (new and vet), to assure security.  This makes for a rather exciting comradery and feel for accomplishment, on a personal level as well team level.  It much reminds me of the days of old in DAoC and the rush of adrenalin felt by all involved to stave the assault or capture an objective.

It was mentioned that AoC is a more friendly "solo" experience.  Fine.. but keep this in mind.  DF, though not forcing you to join a guild, will evolve you into finding the idea friendly.  MUCH more friendly than joining a guild drama when nothing much is left endgame from a themepark experience than to draw gear, or repeat raids.  I personally have found that unless I am specific to joining or founding a guild in games like WoW, AoC, LoTRO (all fine games no doubt), with KNOWN friends/family, the usual result is discontent and back to being "solo".  In DF, just like nuturing your skills to become better, the community (guilds) need to do the same to be succesful.  You will be motivated and feel want, to join a guild and be appreciated for doing so.

Your actions have meaning and thus responsibility to those actions.  Your playstyle is an investment, and a representation of who you are and because of this DF offers an inherent and invisible role play aspect.  Doth not needeth to talketh like this uth to role playeth in DF, you just simply are what you are.. and others will account you for it.  THIS is community at its greatest level.  AoC?.. well, if your a pissant ganker for no other reason than to be a douche with a following of preteen gangsta sword wielding tards to rub your ego, fine.. things go bad just roll an alt or switch a server.. :)  Think twice before acting this way in DF.  NOTE:  I was simply trying to be funny with the preteen thing.  Adults do this as well, and yes even DF has this sort of activity.  But these folks tend to weed out over time.  Just like EvE.. the learning curve and community respect drives out the rubbish.

AoC DOES have, excellent graphics (best in the business), a unique and fun combat system, a good amount of variety for quests, mob's, armor/weapon looks, a decent amount of players and a bright future.  But all this will be on rails.  And until sieges, land control, guild warfare and the like are implemented fully, will simply leave you flat at L80 until it changes.

Now.. if DF would lose the population that afk's, hacks and gliches mobs, it would be perfect in my book.  DF makes you feel as though you 'earn" your right to be there.  And though the DF team has done exceptionaly well at eliminating the folks who try to shortcut the system, there is still an issue whether the fans of DF choose to recognize it or not.

I'd say if you combine the two.. you'd have one helluva game :)

    my thoughts.

"He who reigns within himself and rules his passions, desires, and fears is more than a king."

"Where there is much desire to learn, there of necessity will be much argruing, much writting, many opinions; for opinions in good men is but knowledge in the making."

     Let's make this simple:

    Open world? Darkfall

    Linear? Age of Conan

Both have some pretty bad communities, but that comes with the e-peen stroking that PvP-based games bring, so it's nothing to fret about.

What is something to fret about is that ganking is frequent in both.

  • ThillianThillian Member UncommonPosts: 3,156

It's quite a weird question - especially when the games are in my opinion - opposite to each other in almost every way.

One has classes, levels, loading screens, instances, weak crafting, great graphics and animations, great world, huge IP, the other has no classes, no levels, no loading screens, no instances, strong crafting, average graphics, poor animations, no fame IP, generic world, free body loot. The only thing they have in common is that they are both fantasy medieval and have a european developer.

    REALITY CHECK

Both will have ganking unless you go to a PvE server in  aoc, you can still do Pvp similar to WAR it just is not open world pvp ,

    This.

I will also add that although I enjoyed AoC to a point....in the end it's just another quest grind. Personally, I HATE quest grinds with a flaming purple passion.

I was a big backer of AoC at one point, because I was hoping to find....something that Darkfall delivers on. A brutal, barbaric medieval atmosphere. In the end, AoC failed me, where Darkfall continues to deliver.
