Why bother, when you aren't?
All you have to do is go through this and any other pve vs. pvp thread and you'll see that when PvP'rs talk about their dissatifaction with PvE they generally stick to attacking the problems they have with PvE.
Generally PvE players have and continue to throw insults and segregational attacks at the PvP "PLayers" and not the games themselves from the get go.
Maybe PvE players should address game mechanics and stop being so rude to those that enjoy a different style of gameplay.... just a thought since it seems to be the EXACT argument PvE'rs keep trying to stress. Hypocrites.

In PvP you interact a lot more with other people than in PvE, so it is logical to blame the players for disliking PvP.
Of course the opposite is also true, but not nearly in the same scale. Thus you don't see as many people blaming players when giving their opinion about PvE.
PvP players are not any holier than PvE players. It is foolish to think like that. PvP players are no better than PvE players and vice versa. In general humans are much like each other. Just because they prefer another style of gameplay doesn't make them any way worse than you.

This is serious business. From reading such responses one gets the notion that there are two different groups of gamers in MMO's. I expect a full out war in the near future between these two groups.

I don't think so.
There's 2 different groups of gamers- those who would play an MMO without PvP (majority), and those who wouldn't (minority). I'd guess most would prefer a bit of both however, if it didn't affect the game quality. It's not the point of this thread though.
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".
So the pvers insult pvpers? what about calling people that want to play an immersive story with no asshats ruining your day? yeah pvpers call em carebear and then they are the ones that whine for nerfs on x class because he can't beat them..
I say yes. I think there is plenty of fun to be had in PVE play, as long as the world is dynamic, open ended, and there is a need for survival.
However, I still like PvP, and I would either play it in other MMO games, or go play an FPS shooter to get it out of my system.
A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.
And please give the reasons for your answers. Personally PVP has never been my cup of tea. It's not that i never tried, i just dont feel any sense of accomplishement fighting others peoples for what really ? Bragging rights ? There is already TONS of pvp game out there, mostly shooters, why does every MMO that comes out MUST have some sort of PVP in it ? Do you think we could have a succesful MMO without the PVP aspect ?
I try most mmorpg's on the market but I allways avoid those with any kind of pvp involved in the main game.Pvp as a duells or some kind of aren fight does not distrub me as long as it has nothing to do with the game.
So the pvers insult pvpers? what about calling people that want to play an immersive story with no asshats ruining your day? yeah pvpers call em carebear and then they are the ones that whine for nerfs on x class because he can't beat them..
If you look through this thread I'm pretty sure most of the namecalling and generally negative attitude type post have come from the PvE crowd.
There has also been a lot of insinuation thrown around like:
They are the ones who whine for nerfs because they can't beat them...
They are the minority .. we are the majority,, despite the fact that almost EVERY MMO on this site features pvp in some form or fashion. There are no true statistics to measure which in fact has the greater population. But PvE'rs will cling to this unproven claim until the end of time.
In PvP you interact a lot more with other people than in PvE, so it is logical to blame the players for disliking PvP. Of course the opposite is also true, but not nearly in the same scale. So because PvE'rs lack the ability to deal with player interaction, quite possibly due to poor social skills, pvp'rs are to blame. Fact is, you have to deal with all types of people in games, there are all types of pvp'rs,, good ones, bad ones, nice ones, rude ones... the only common denominator is you. (figurative not directed specifically at you) So if PvE'rs are going to point the finger at all PVP'rs and lump them into one crowd, maybe they need to re-examine their attitude. If you look for the bad in something or someone all the time, you're bound to find it.
Never said PvP players are holier, just ironic how rude PVE supporters , or I should say Anti-PvP'rs, actually are.

Eh, no you don't- if you play a game without PvP. It's not about being unable to deal with all kind of players, it's about not wanting to. If you don't have to interact with all kind of asshats in the game, why should you?
There's all kind of PvP'ers out there, but the competitive playstyle favors particular type of player, that PvE'ers would prefer not to deal with. Cooperative over competitive, basically.
Of course there's also the kind of PvP that is cooperative, and the kind of PvE that is competitive- but usually the kind of games with PvE focus are the ones that sport this kind of playstyle in the first place.
Ironically, you're lumping the PvE supporters into one crowd as well. Just like there are rude and dumb PvP players, same goes for the PvE side- it's just not nearly as apparent in-game as it is here.
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".

Not Ironically, but on purpose. Bad game design and game mechanics help to increase the ability for someone to be an ass in any game, in pvp, or pve. Remember the lootninja's of WoW ? Despite the fact that you and I both agree that there are rude and dumb people in both camps, I don't see a lot of PVE'rs acknowledging this and in fact they act like it isn't true. At least the many of ones who post about hating pvp.
I personally like PvP that is cooperative team based play. Competitive playstyle is what PvE'rs generally seem to dislike, because there are plenty of PvP'rs that like competition and prefer competition but are not retarded and suffering from some psychosis. Yet again, PvE'rs act like we don't exist.
So it comes down to competition favors PvP'rs because that is what we are looking for: competition. Whereas PvE'rs are looking for social and team based activities that are less than dynamic. The thrill is in figuring out how to beat the boss, level, or zone, but once that is done, what do you have left? The next zone. Still amazes me how many people seem to utilize the cheats and walkthroughs which give you step by step instruction, when they claim to want a PvE challenge.
As a diverse gamer it's my opinion that PvP and PvE don't belong in the same game for the most part.
Far too many PvP games have an initial PvE grind that most people would rather skip altogether. Not to mention the fact that it becomes less about player skill and tactics and more about how much time you have put into your character. I'm not saying that PvE can't exist in a PvP MMO, it just shouldn't be the primary method of character progression. In fact, I'd like to see individual progression scrapped altogether and instead have developers focus on adding more and more viable options to specialize their characters. If PvE is added it should have minimal rewards.
But this thread is supposed to be about PvE, right? Having PvP in a PvE focused game isn't always a problem as long it is consentual. Personally I think that any PvP in such a game should not have any significant rewards -- if any at all -- and just be fun for those that wish to take part. In fact, despite my first statement that PvP and PvE don't belong together, I think that a little casual PvP is a good addition to any PvE game as long as it remains optional and isn't encouraged with rewards.
Many people think that having separate servers for each type of play style is enough, but I'd rather see developers focus their time into making one or the other even better. MMOs can always be improved and thus focusing on one would make that type of game play much better than if they were to focus on both.
Oh. My answer to the question of this thread is yes.
This is serious business. From reading such responses one gets the notion that there are two different groups of gamers in MMO's. I expect a full out war in the near future between these two groups.
There have always been two groups of MMO gamers. They have already clashed few times - WOW for example.
Why this hate ? Part of it is because it ruins the gameplay for the others. PVP in core essense is a FPS like fight where best gameplay is based on making every class pretty much all alike (1v1 this is a must ofc). PVE on the other hand is based making classes diffrent and uniqe. This was clearly visible in early WOW when specilised abiltes (MC for shadow priests for example) could be used to create a unique boss encounter. After Arena was added to the game - this has all changed when balance came under alot more comparasion than before. That did lead to the special abilites to not only become worthless... but also - no new special abilites were added. It just became a two way battle... kill or be killed...
There is one thing that I find very intresting when it comes to PVPers talking here. THey talk about competition.. Well.. competition is based on equal chances. MMO games can not deliver those equal chances since distance from server will in the end always determine the outcome of a fight (when matched in skills). So... in fairness - MMO PVPers are usually those that have low ping and live close to servers - while those further away can not really compete cause of ping. PVE content on the other hand is developed to make sure ppl can work together even when there is a huge diffrence in ping.
I personally like PvP that is cooperative team based play. Yet again, PvE'rs act like we don't exist.
I don't think so. However, can those who do be blamed for that when it's the vocal minority that seems to rule the PvP side of many games? Even if in the end it's the game mechanics that allow for such people to exist, I think it's still a good reason to dislike PvP. It's a by-product of bad game mechanics, but shouldn't be overlooked even if that is the case.
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".
My reasoning is that MMORPG's (In my own opinion) are meant (Or were meant at one time...sadly) for exploration, positive community interaction (Trading, grouping, etc.), etc. PvP added to MMO's just invites slews of players with bad attitudes and again, in my opinion, should be left on FPS/Fighting console games, or out of games that have heavy PvE content. Make one or the other, but don't try to mix the two because it just creates issues as far as I have seen. Well....other than in EVE where it seems to work rather well.
Yes, I would play a 100% PVE game. I enjoy PVP in limited doses, and have experimented from time to time to see if I catch onto it, so to speak, but it never really holds my attention.
I would much rather have a game where the focus is story and PVE is king. However, it's not something that's likely to get made due to many, many people enjoying PVP.
Sorry. But I have to have both. Yeah I like a nice storyline, but I would rather play a console game if I'm not going to interact with other members combat wise. Personally getting ganked and camped sux, but it makes me work that much harder thus providing some kind of challenge. A lot of players have different ways of thinking therefore having different tactics and playing skill to keep you on your toes. NPC's usually have a pattern or a certain way that they can be defeated. Stop complaining and just deal with the PvP folks. If you're complaining about getting quest ganked and what not, then you suck and have no problem solving skills. Or skills period.
