Having the same problems. Windows 7 64bit here.
After everything else that's has been happening with this game, this still surprises you when it doesn't work?

Just to be entertained I guess and to waste bandwidth
I received the same error. After about the sixth launcher restart the error didn't show up.
Some people have been able to get past the error by moving the error window so the "Continue" button is over the launcher's "Play" button and then clicking real fast.
When it comes to computers, isn't that akin to hitting it with a rock while crossing your fingers to see if it works?

Folks... this is a patcher problem and it is because the patcher was written by someone not from SV. Obviously he isn't up to par but thats OK. Don't forget that this is just a small placeholder patch. The real Miracle Patch will be here Monday. Just bide your time until then.
I'm sure the Monday patch will fix this issue as well as the previously existing ones. Just give it a chance.

But its going to fix all of the bugs and exploits, its going to add a new type of combat system, its going to add more towns and more area of the world... and its not going to lag!

But really, they have had 8 months to put this content in and some how they are going to fit it all in 1 patch in under 2 weeks.

and yes, it was a complete failure except
the new launcher/patcher/installer actually worked this time --- at least for some (me included - which really is a miracle - no need to wait for monday)

Yes, true...What you have to do is get some people to stand behind, these must inculde 1 small choir and several long horn players, next rig a halogen lamp above head, then and only then can you do the following.
1. Say in a hush humbled voice while actually typing the same, "Oh the patch of mondays does cometh"
2 .Now the tricky part, as saying and typing that, turn on the over head Halogen lamp to shine down on you, get choir to sing "AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" and horn players to do a light flowery fanfare.
3. Only for the Ultra religous, as this is going on throw fish at picture of Herculesas, while slapping your naked buttocks at said portrait, as I said this was going to be very difficult to do, while at a keyboard, and if in a forum debate about the patch, it could prove to be very expensive in fish and choir rental hourly rate.
That said, that is more likely to happen than the launcher working as intended.

No real Herculesas were hit by fish in the making of this post.
It does work. It did not take long before a solution were out there. Simply ignore it and it works fine. Tried that did ya? Works fine noe people!

(Ignore error) When the patch is done downloading and installing exit the error and launcher and restart it and the error shouldn't be there anymore. The characters not being there is normal, they deleted them. The character server is also down hindering us from making new characters. Hope this helps, it solved everything for me."

Very professional to just tell customers to ignore a giant error message...
This is working as intended. Remember the last patch had a 13 step process that included getting error messages and restarting the patcher 4-5 times. This time they have reduced it down to just one or two... most people call this progress... why would someone complain?
It is obvious that we are moving in the right direction... have faith.. I know you are a big fan of the game too. Just give them until the Monday Miracle patch can satisfy all our dreams and make MO into the game we fell in flove with from that Powerpoint presentation so long ago. These are good guys... they work hard. They played on an unofficial UO shard and were fun. Believe me, they know how to make this into a great game. They have had a long time to work behind the scenes to fix all the hacks and bugs and add all the missing content that will finally make this a game instead of a tech demo. MMOs are very competative. If SV had put all the good stuff in first it would have been stolen by non-indie companies with lots of money. Now we finally have the long awaited patch coming on Monday and the full glory that is Mortal Online will be revealed!
