seriously you voted for star trek?

  • KordeshKordesh Member Posts: 1,715

Neither. Both have considerable faults that keep them from being enjoyable.

Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.

Eve and STO have very little in common and it is like comparing Dragon age and GTA4. Not the same kind of game for the same kind of players, not the same budget either.
STO would be better to compare with Guildwars actually (instanced games on a low budget made by an ex Diablo dev) but STO wouldn't have a chance there.
I do think Eve is the better game here but you really can't compare them, the gameplay is just so different that the only thing you can compare is the amount of content and how fun you think they are.

    Hmmm.

Eve is the low budget indy title.  STO is backed by ATARI, and is far from low budget.

Cryptic (post ncsoft buyout-split) doesn't seem to be very good at keeping their community happy over the long haul anymore. So hands down I'm going with CCP (EVE).

Sorry but I saw screen shots of STO and if I'm probably not the first that sees a wow UI, wow tags and over all looking wow in space experience.

Eve is a game yes, but its metagame and its community are vastly superior to the experience I think STO is trying to offer.

I don't like either, but honestly, EVE, since it will be pushing ground walking/avatars soon.

And honestly man, it's well known that nobody likes STO on this site, so why ask the question?

But really, when you think of it, they're two different beasts.

Ive been subbing to eve for 1 1/2 years now and havent regretted it once! STO i played for couple weeks and unf it got repetitive and boring. Eve has consistantly brought out new content every six months which is far better than any other publisher out there. Eve hands down.

    NOW WHERE IS MY WOD????????

(BBBBBBBWWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAHHHHHH raises all limbs to raise quarduple plunger salute to CCP!)

All my opinions are just that..opinions. If you like my opinions..coolness.If you dont like my opinion....I really dont care.

Oh really?  Let's see they used the CO engine, only really put in content for humans and players actually got to end level within the first week of release.  If STO is not a low budget, get it out the door by the fastest means possible MMO, I don't know what is.

For the battle of this week the winner ISSSSS.....

    EVE Online by a landslide!

EVE totaled for 118 points, 98 votes and 10 posts supporting the game.
Star Trek Online lost with a mere 24 points, 18 votes and 6 supporting posts.

Despite it being a slaughter for this week, there were people that did show a preference for the STO and its partially what I wanted to see was everyone's honest opinions between the two.

I think this thread was great for pointing out its preference for a sandbox game as well as noting that EVE Online has been in development for quite sometime. The main focus was to see which one people perceived with the most potential later down the road and I was hoping to see arguments more about the future potential rather than the current state of the game despite it being a part of where the future would be directed to. Again, this could be another insight in regards to people's opinions even if asked about the future that its current state (and possibly past experiences) could influence everyone's views on where it's heading.

Again, I would like to continue to point out, don't expect any of these polls to be fair and balanced. It's just a matter of catching the views of everyone else and providing something new to the public thread here about MMORPG's in general.

I appreciate the participation and feel free to continue the original post topic or post topic ideas to be used on the next poll starting tomorrow for the week!

EVE was a low-budget title. It is now anything but.

Not sure what gives you any impression that Atari is capable of doing anything high-budget. They've been struggling to keep their head above water for a long time. STO is pretty amazing for how little I'm sure they budgeted it for.

Though not enough to get my vote, unfortunately.

There really is no contest here.

Just take a look at the development teams behind each MMO. LOOOOL I wander if anyone at cryptic actually takes the time to play any of their MMO's?

STO isn't fit to wipe Eve Online's ass, and never will be.  The gameplay, persistent universe, exploration, resource gathering, manufacturing, starship combat, skill system, ships, starship weaponry and modules stand head and shoulders over anything STO will ever offer.  I really, really wish STO was a good game, but sadly it isn't.

Would you really rather play STO or EVE? Not much of a contest.

I don't like either game.  I prefer casual games, but Cryptic gives casual games a bad name.  Thank God we have companies like Blizzard, Bioware and Kingsisle to show us how it can be done.
