I tried liking STO, I really did, but I burned out after only 3 weeks.  It's so bland and god-awful, and has very little hope for recovering.

Then I found out that Darkfall is having a 1 dollar trial and I signed up and- holy cow, it's awesome.  I haven't been this excited for an MMOPRG since my first one, and that was back in 2001.

If you're bored with STO and looking for something really new and different, get your butt over to Darkfall!

I'm completely against ever paying one thin dime to try out a game. I think it's completely silly that they're charging $1 for the trial. If it was a free trial, it'd definitely go on my list of games to try.

and now it begins the DFO trial spamming... i forsee this similer thread/post in every game on the market today.. dont like hello kitty online.. WELL you better play so and so right now!!!

They are charging $1 to avoid exploiting the game, which in a sandbox game can have catastrophic consequences for the rest of the players.

That $1 will go to pay the charge fees, so they won't make a cent out of it.

this, do people really think they make anything from that buck? Are you kidding you know there are transaction fees for each transaction and that pretty much takes that whole dollar.... the payment is made to make sure ur using a valid credit card so if you hack or exploit or spam they can black list that card.

Make any sense? It's ONE dollar, how far do you think a buck makes it going through all of the above?

We, Darkfall fanbois take no responsibility for this thread.

And why bitch about the one dollar? It is the trial that is important. Same for any MMO.

  • holdenhamletholdenhamlet Member EpicPosts: 3,772

It's an independent company, so they probably need the dollar to cover costs.  Plus, the trial is exploitable in the game, so it helps curb that.

There are other ways to prevent exploitation of the game... Like putting restrictions on the trial accounts. A monthly $15 fee doesn't stop spammers, farmers and gold-sellers in other games, why would a $1 fee suddenly stop them now.

It's not that I object to them making a profit, cause I don't. But I do object to me wasting my money on a trail account to an MMO when there are dozens I still haven't tried that offer a free trial. :P

For example, in the last month I've tried the Champions Online and Age of Conan free trials, I bought Age of Conan because it was cheap and I enjoyed the trial. In the near future I intend to try the free trials to Lord of the Rings Online, Dungeons and Dragons Online, Pirates of the Burning Sea (I tried the open beta back in the day, I want to see how the game is now,) and Warhammer Online. Why would I pay $1 to try out another game?

Mainly because there are already a number of free trials that I want to try, so this just makes my decision to not try Darkfall that much easier. Now I'll have much more time for other free trials!

Rent space, Toiletries pizza delivery lmao ya ya , you think they woke up last week and thought ok lets do get this trial on the road, they would have had projection costs of all this within the price tag of all you that have been playing since release, damn some of you smucks lol.

On a serious note though toiletries costs a fortune in greece at mo with the currents riots and pizza takes like over 2 hours for delivery crap i may throw them 2 euros.

ya they don't want to restrict you that's why they made the right choice, You can experience a lot of darkfall has to offer with no restrictions and if people try to use it for hacks they can ban the account and any mains tied to the CC see how that works?

You probably wouldn't.  But I've already tried almost all of those games (- Pirates), and I'm really glad I did.  I'm also really glad there are zero restrictions on the trial, which is much more than you get with other trials.  You're paying the dollar for full access to the game for 7 days.  Not a bad deal really.  Like I said, though, they're a small company so the dollar is probably there to cover costs more than anything.

And this is partly why there is no free trial, to keep out those that don't really care about trying Darkfall. I've seen EVE's free trial and I can do without constant gold spam, thank you. If you actually tried the game you'd know the game mechanics don't mix well with free trials, but we'll leave that for the seriously interested to discover.

I didnt like Darkfall that much, but 1$ trials is actually a pretty nice idea... Would solve some problems with gold farmers using trials accounts right?

Have they fixed the animations yet?

But...that means you are not even interested in Darkfall in the first case!

If a MMO im interested in, do offer seven days of gametime for one dollar....i would try it. I have tryed MMO just because they had a free trial, but i was not even interested and left every singel on of them within days.

And this is why they don't ever want my money. Seems like a pretty bad business move to try to prevent people who "don't really care about trying" from trying said game. Sometimes people fall in love with things they didn't really care about in the first place.

They're giving lots of love to graphics/animations/sound for 2010 you should go read up on it lots of spells already have really awesome looking animations now and a lot better sound effects.

It's a minor deterent to people wanting to try out hacks but don't want to get their account banned.

Seriously, though, we're talking about less than an ATM service charge here.  I have no problem at all covering costs to try out a totally different kind of game from an independent company.

I tried the trial the other night. Immediately uninstalled. Never have I been more unimpressed with a UI, animations and clunky interface. It is a first person game that ONLY goes third person when in melee combat. This completely fooled me as I thought you could walk around in third person. I mean, you CAN technically walk around in third person but your weapon must be drawn and watching these characters walk around with their weapons drawn is not a pretty sight.

This has all the trademarks of an indie free to play game written all over it.

If they offered a free trial I would definitely be interested in trying it. If I saw this thread and it was for a free trial, I would have probably made it my next game to try out because this thread might have piqued my interest.

you know people can generate fake CC numbers right? and without a transaction theres no way to tell if it's valid so with that 1$ transaction it validates it and if you try to do anything illegal they can ban the CC number and any mains tied to it.... I KNOW CRAZY RIGHT!

Graphics aren't the best, but I'd rather be running around at 100 fps with my middle-of-the-road PC in a pvp game than have great graphics.  Darkfall is definitely more about gameplay than graphics so if you're into games for the graphics this isn't the one for you.

Hmm..  7 days of Darkfall or  a redbox rental.

    Def Redbox.
