There are other ways to prevent exploitation of the game... Like putting restrictions on the trial accounts. A monthly $15 fee doesn't stop spammers, farmers and gold-sellers in other games, why would a $1 fee suddenly stop them now.

Because they will track their credit card number and ban all the accounts linked to that credit card.

So unless a gold farmer company have 300 credit cards in order to open 300 new accounts, with this system they will be able to open only 1.

Without credit card you would be able to open 1 million account, gentting banned and open another million.

In sandbox games a gold seller can make much more damage than games like WoW.

So all in all, I believe this is a good measure to avoid screwing the game completely.

Yes, the gold farmer companies probably do have 300 credit card numbers lying around to open 300 new accounts. Do you really think it simply doesn't occur to the WoW devs to ban credit cards used in exploiting, farming and spamming? Why do you think they have to ban farmers, spammers and exploiters all the time? Because they're all brand new people trying these things out? Or maybe because these people have hundreds and hundreds of credit card numbers to fall back on?

If they're doing this to prevent game exploitation then all they are ever going to catch is a few small fish. The random people who try out game exploitation mods. Credit cards are not in any way a problem for spammers, farmers and gold sellers.

Actually, all they're really doing is making it cheaper for the spammers, farmers and exploiters. Instead of paying $15 a month they only have to pay $1.

ya they don't want to restrict you that's why they made the right choice, You can experience a lot of darkfall has to offer with no restrictions and if people try to use it for hacks they can ban the account and any mains tied to the CC see how that works?

And how exactly does charging $1 prevent exploitation?

It's a minor deterent to people wanting to try out hacks but don't want to get their account banned.

Seriously, though, we're talking about less than an ATM service charge here.  I have no problem at all covering costs to try out a totally different kind of game from an independent company.

In comparison no, its not a lot of money, but it IS still money changing hands to do something in a game that you can do in many others for free.  Not to bypass the fact that way before the game launched they said everyone would get to try the game free before you buy it, which, of course isn't the case.

A minor deterrent?  Please, its no more a deterrent  than a free trial,  just instead, they'll make money off those that want to start new accounts to exploit.  Nothing deters players that want to exploit the game, all you're doing is adding additional costs to players that are interested in trying it.   I'm all for independent companies doing well, but you don't see fallen earth charging a dollar for 7 days.

Just to be clear, you do get full access in Darkfall for your buck.  That's more than most other MMORPGs who typically prevent you from using an auction house, trading items, or sending /tells.  So, you are getting a bit more for your dollar than usual.

    Plus, Fallen Earth sucks.

Btw, I too was a bit wary of forking over a dollar for a trial, and might not have done it if I had any other MMORPGs to try, but I've pretty much tried them all by now.  Plus, the game is totally awesome and I would've bought it after just a free single day of trial.

If games implement restrictions to trials, usually its a level restriction like in WAR.  FE doesn't restrict anything. As far as I know neither does EvE, both independent developers that have created games with a strong following.

Bashing Fallen Earth based on your opinion doesn't change the argument.  If I had to choose a trial between what I've seen from Darkfall and what I've seen from Fallen Earth,  I'd definitely pick up the FREE 10 day trial from Fallen Earth first rather than spend 1 dollar for a 7 day trial.  Thats my preference, and seems more common sense to those looking to "try" a game, not *buy* a trial.

     Anyways, back on topic.

I got to trying out the $1 trial (because really, it's only $1...) and i am impressed. I'm a seasoned mmo vet and this game has really peaked my interest. I haven't felt a real challenge since final fantasy xi.

You have to be patient at first, but it just gets more from after all is figured out; definitely worth a look at!

You know you can get rechargable visas at wal-mart for free right? Some dont even have a minimum to open. You guys would never make it as criminals.

I was going to post this but you already have :) Bravo!

Feel free to try out Fallen Earth, and any other free trials before you try out Darkfall.  I know I did.  I'm just saying I'm really glad I tried out Darkfall and haven't been this excited since my first MMORPG.
