make sure u train perseverance and toughness if i remember well u can buy this skills only in player city (i got them from one i dont know is NPC city trainers have this skills)
If you buy this PVE game please don't make the mistake of joining a clan for at least 6 months because doing so will hinder your PVE stats/skills production. Darkfall is PVE try and keep this in mind as much as possible and you will outlast the initial burnout and someday you may actually be able to PVP.
So, what you're saying is you're burned out on the PVE because you chose to spend the first month by yourself PVEing and now you're basically telling people Darkfall is a crap PVE game.
Well, that doesn't match with my experience of THREE DAYS in the game. I've already killed three people and been ganked two times.
Just yesterday I died to fighting goblins. I came back and found my grave had been looted by two players who were teamed up. I asked them if they would give me back my stuff but they didn't respond. They were taking on a lot of goblins at once, though, so I waited until what looked like the weaker one was seperated and fighting a mob and started hitting her with mana missle. By the time she realized I was attacking her, she could only get in a couple melee hits and I killed her, naked, only using my starter staff.
I checked her loot and sure enough my stuff was there. I got it all back while a salamander started hitting me. Unfortunately, I got greedy, and started taking all her stuff. I started to get low on health and just when I decided to make a break for it, her partner came up and killed me again. At that point, I had gone red so I was taken back to my clan house far away.
***
Long story short: although I lost the battle in the end, PVP happened, and on my SECOND day of playing the game. Calling this a PVE game is disingenuous and making all these threads claiming to want advice but stubbornly refusing to take it just shows that you're burned out playing the way you do and you're trying to turn others away from the game.
Also, your idea of not joining a clan is really really bad because if you actually decide to pvp, you'll probably go red and then you'll have no city to work out of.
Do I think I could take on a player that has played for a long time in a fair fight? Hell no. You would almost definately kill me in a fair fight. But I might be able to kill you if I stalk you while you're PVEing and attack at the right time. Besides, what exactly would be the point in playing this game for a long time if you couldn't pwn newbies? I fully expect to get my ass kicked often in my first month or two, but that doesn't stop me from fighting.
OP: find an Akathar camp. You'll net thousands in gold, selentine keys, and regs in no time at all, and level your stats, rigor, reflexes, and general resistances VERY fast.
Wharg0ul, thanks for the constructive post it's a welcomed change. I will seek these mobs out today and give them a shot. I've been killing Hags, Lizards and Greater Servants.
OP what your saying is not true thats a mentality you bring with you from themeparks, get rid of it just play have fun explore craft pvp sekk clan join clanwars,
There is so many things to do that you forget grind.
You appraoch this game totally wrong way.

Darkfall is PVE. Everyone that plays knows this is true? You lost me a little with your post aside from the part where you've killed a couple people and you are new. Anyways, I'm glad you are having fun as I am and hope you can make it through the PVE.
OP: find an Akathar camp. You'll net thousands in gold, selentine keys, and regs in no time at all, and level your stats, rigor, reflexes, and general resistances VERY fast. They are immune to air and fire magic (dunno about earth and water....don't have them myself), so focus on melee and archery. They don't dodge very quickly, and they're wide targets, so perfect for leveling archery as well. They use weak air magic, such as lightning ball and lightning bolt...and they also use begone, which is far more annoying than anything else. Your rigor will go up at adecent rate since they also use dagger, and hit fairly quickly. Bring lots of food, and practice your double-jump to avoid their spells. IN a week of grinding these, you'll not only advance your skills tremendously, but you'll be stinking rich. Don't forget your skinning knife!! Now then....leave the goblins, kobolds, skeletons, and trolls alone, and get some real gains.
Ohh funny shit happen just now. I did forgot my skinning knife, and I just logged off. Right now I rather wash my toilet than kill another NPC.
I've done this many times. Thanks for the laugh man, I needed it before I begin killing those mobs Wargh0l told me about.

Btw im solo for year now and not burnout becouse i do alot different things going from continent to continet travel alot bind at chaostowns, also have made ingame friends even tho im solo sometimes i can join them with there clan and participate in clanwars.
My stats are almost all over 80 up to 100 i got archery max and magic schools max and melee around 75 have all extra skills from clantowns by sneak into towns or temp join clans to get them.
Ok solo is not as easy in Darkfall as joining clan but as long you have fun, thats whats all about right:)
Darkfall is great game, just make your own story adventure and you can have blast.

I doubt you will have the player skill that is needed even after the paperskill you get killng 4230+ mobs to win a single fight in PvP. You still will get stomped like you get now.
You're not one of those players that thinks this game takes skill? Please tell me you don't think it takes skill to hit my left mouse button and horizontal/vertical slash at a player that moves in the same circlular pattern as I takes skill. Yes, we jump after a few initial fireballs or whatever but after that it's hitting 5-9 buttons back and forth until I die because of the damage differential. After I PVE a lot more the damages will be more inline and the outcomes will change. You may not but I think the people playing these online games can hit the required 5-9 keys needed to have a decent time playing.

Why you can defend the huge NPC grind in a pvp mmo, is beyond my comprehension. The PVE crowd got several hundred games they could play, and still they want Darkfall. Don`t you PVE gamers ever get enough?
Why couldn`t the pvp crowd have one, just one fantasy pvp mmo?
And don`t you dare call yourself a pvper. You are just another pve player who thinks he has "deserved", " worked for" or "earned" his ability to kill low level players. As a pvper I don`t buy that, and nether does any other old school pvper. We were used to a term called player skill back then. Now that term is replaced with who can grind most stupid NPC`s.
If you ever feel proud of killing low level players, you should be ashamed of yourself.
Ohh funny shit happen just now. I did forgot my skinning knife, and I just logged off. Right now I rather wash my toilet than kill another NPC.
LOL! Great post. I frankly cannot bring myself to even log in anymore. I have already cancelled my sub as well. Game has some very interesting aspects but it is not my cup of tea.
What the HELL are you talking about??? It sounds like you want Darkfall to be an FPS, where there are no character skills at all. The poster I was responding to has said multiple times that they feel that they need to grind mobs to be "competitive". Several of us have tried to explain that it's not necessary, that you can gain skill naturally over the course of play, but since they seem determined to take this route I figured I'd offer some advice in how to do it effectively, at least. Everyone in Darkfall is at their own level of development. I've stated this over and over again. Heading out as a lower experienced solo player, yeah...yer gonna get stomped. But if you go out in a group, or with your clan, you can participate in and enjoy PVP quite fine. This is especially true if you're in a clan that practices group tactics on a regular basis, and learns to support one another with cross-heals, etc. And another thing, I AM a PVP player.....in Darkfall, as well as the other MMORPGs I've played in over a decade of MMORPG gaming. I played FPS games competitively before I ever set foot in an MMORPG, and led more than one top ten OGL league clan in multiple games. If I see an enemy in my clan's territory, I attack, regardless of weather they just started the damn game or not. I don't hang around the n00b areas killing new players, I live on Cairn, and if you think there's a lack of PVP players there, I invite you to come on down and find out for yourself. And maybe I did "earn" my skills, and work hard to become good at the game. I for one am not afraid of hard work, and believe that it pays off. I am not a member of the "entitlement generation", where I expect everything to be handed to me on a silver platter just because I stomp my feet and whine. Finally...I am not "defending" a PVE grind at all. People at release bitched that they felt they had to macro and bloodwall to gain skills, so the devs gave them an alternative by increasing skill gains in PVE. You don't have to kill mobs...you can get gains on other players. You don't have to grind the same mob for hours...you can just ride across the map exploring, and kill whatever you fancy....NPCs and players alike. You'll still get skill gains. If you choose to grind, YOU CHOSE to do it. It's your own fault if you hate grinding, and do it anyway.
Erm, I`m a bit tired of the FPS/ Counter Strike argument. No one are saying we shouldn have a grind, but right now the grind is ridicoulus. I have killed more than 17000 npc to get where I am at the moment, and I got a medium char compared to the best out there. I guess I just need to kill 5-7000 more mobs to get my melee and magic to where I want it. I`ve found the perfect mobs to grind, and I no longer bother to loot or skinn them. I just want the gain. The int stat is locked at 66, and I will never get archmage without macroing. I got the script for mana missile ready, so I guess I would have 75 INT in a few weeks of intensive macroing if I want to risk my char. Right now I wont.
I`m not the problem though, I`m not a good pvper anyway. The problem is the recruitment to my game. We simply do`t get enough new players, and those who chose to stay need 3-6 months to be battleready. Normal play that is, and not the 6+ hours a day guys. I would guess Darkfall lose 90% of it`s player within the first 3 months. That is sad, because all of those players knew Darkfall was a full-loot mmo. We bouth know Darkfall got fantastic pvp as a high level, but to get there is to hard.
If some of you need the grind, let the grind be the non pvp skills. Most of us don`t really care if our constuction, shipbuilding or mining is less than 30. We just want the pvp skills/stats to be fast. Stats and skill should not be the new epics in Darkfall, that`s why we have different gear. Risk vs reward. If new players could get those skills and stats fast, we would have 100k + players. Now EU1 got 3k and NA1 5k. That`s not enough for servers made to hold 30k.
In 3 years time DF will have 1k players left, and everybody will have ALL the skills and Stats. What then?
This evening was fun though. Siege, 200+ players, cannons, nexus portals, mounted combat, defence, attack, large scale and small scall pvp for hours. THAT IS DARKFALL, not the normal kill 20000 npc game we have 95% of the online time.

One thing that caused these situation you don't like was PvP not going outside of the player city, tell me why Aventurine constructed such a big world ?
Tell you what, you don't need to PvE in the end, just accept consequences of lower progression, just PvP and never fight a mob but something had to be done about people not going out in the world and yes i know how PvP'r just about ignore EVERY world in every MMO and tend to meet in some spots to duell and for epeen showing. Darkfall is not about that, it is a MMORPG and there is room for crafters, people who provide them with mats through gather and hunting mobs and there is room for PvP and all have different stats that differ significantly and are not almost the same thats like in a believable world and not like a arena.
Players have to differ in stats and skills and be in different stages of char developemnt and players have to be busy out in the wild..Both things have been perfectly balanced and covert with the current Darkfall system..

About once a day I will die to a Red Player while at a PVE spot and when I die its still an absolute slaughter even after 4,217 PVE kills under my belt.
Why do you think this will change after another 4,217?

Why would you bother?? Just go out and hunt strong mobs like Minotaur kings and Golems with a group to raise your magic...using REAL spells, not freakin' mana missile. Your gains will be a LOT faster, you'll get REALLY nice loot, and you're not macroing.....plus, it's actually FUN. I`m not the problem though, I`m not a good pvper anyway. They are "PVP competitive" right now...and contribute greatly in a fight. All of them have over 280 HP already, as well as mastery in a melee weapon, and well on their way to maxing out their first elemental magic school. 3-6 months is bullshit, man...unless you're trying to solo your way through the game. And by the way...people have been predicting the demise of Darkfall for over a year now. It's still here, and it's growing. If some of you need the grind, let the grind be the non pvp skills. Most of us don`t really care if our constuction, shipbuilding or mining is less than 30. We just want the pvp skills/stats to be fast. I don't need the grind.....but then I don't grind. I jsut play the game and let things develop by themselves....this is the way that I feel the game was meant to be played. As a result I don't get burned out, I don't get bored, and the game never becomes a chore. It's an adventure, every single day.
You seem to be taking the most BORING route to developing your character. I train with my clan and friends, and guess what? I level up my skills just fine. Yes, they don't skill up every couple of seconds. But as long as I have fun leveling up my skills with people I have fun with, then I don't care how competitive I am. Clans make this game, THE GAME. The sooner you figure out that this game is not a single player game, the faster you will get to the true enjoyment of Darkfall.

"Mr. Rothstein, your people never will understand... the way it works out here. You're all just our guests. But you act like you're at home. Let me tell you something, partner. You ain't home. But that's where we're gonna send you if it harelips the governor." - Pat Webb
OP I'm curious as to what you would do if AV were to introduce a bunch of new skills before you kill 4217 more mobs. Imagine if these skills had a noticeable impact on the outcome of PVP battles. Would this require you to remain solo until you can grind out the new skills? Surely you're aware that more skills will be added in the future, and that it's going to be ongoing throughout the lifespan of the game? You're really setting yourself up for a lonely and unpleasant existence in Darkfall. That's simply not necessary.
But if you must.....
Grind, grind, grind, if you think you're going to be left behind.

This thread convinced me not to play DF after considering it.
My friend bought the game about the same time I did. I tried telling him that he would hate it but he didn't take my word for it. He ended up buying it. After getting decimated a few times trying to PvP and getting raped by people killing him while he was trying to grind his 10k mobs he decided to join a guild. He ended up getting wardec'ed and started getting killed by other orks and wolfguys. He thought if he ground his mobs near his guild city it would be easier so he bound there and tried it out. Now he gets killed at least 6 times daily from people that he will never have a chance of killing near his clan city. He says he watches 1 guy jump into his city and take on 4-5 people at once killing them all.

He hasn't logged in for about a week LOL.
At least you wont make the same mistake!
Maybe he should get a clan that doesn't suck??
Seriously, I've been in a few clans now. It took some time to find one that was good. If I get rolled coming out of the city, they have my back. Nine times out of ten if I get killed, I broadcast the fact that I was killed and by whom and where in CA chat, and we hunt the bastard down, and I get my stuff back.
We take reds and enemies in general VERY seriously. If we see an enemy has entered our city, we all recall for defense. If there is a group of enemies in an alliance city, or roving around the island, we group up and hunt them down.
If your friend isn't logging in, he needs to find a better clan, man. Don't just jump on random recruitment threads...do some research. Check out their web site if they have one, look and see if they have a presence in on the political map, and if they ahve a strong alliance. Talk to the clan leader, and get a feel for the clan, and what they are about.
I don't disagree that my route is the most boring but its the most productive. I'm not someone that enjoys pain so I will always choose the most direct route. People keep referring to a previous thread but this one is dealing with the fact that I only roughly have about 4,500 more PVE kills until I can give a PVE maxed out Red Player a decent fight.

A good clan MAKES this game.
LOL that's a lot of work for a brand new player to do just to make the game "playable," and thats exactly why he's not playing anymore. He's been bouncing between guilds like a pinball machine. A new player joining the game who's been deceived into thinking he can just PvP from the start will quit the game soon after realizing that not only does he have to grind thousands of mobs, but he has to join a good guild not just a regular guild to even make the game playable. Last week apparently all you needed to do was join a clan to become magically competitive at PvP. Now you need a "Good" clan ROFL. What's next?
A decent game wouldn't require you to join a "good" guild just so you wont get annihilated 10 times a day.

we've been over this already. In ANY MMORPG the quality of your clan will effect the quality of your experience in teh game, and this is especially true of a PVP MMORPG.

make sure u train perseverance and toughness if i remember well u can buy this skills only in player city (i got them from one i dont know is NPC city trainers have this skills)

from the other thread:
From day one you can kill players.
OP what your saying is not true thats a mentality you bring with you from themeparks, get rid of it just play have fun explore craft pvp sekk clan join clanwars,
There is so many things to do that you forget grind.
You appraoch this game totally wrong way.
Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009.....
In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.
Darkfall is PVE. Everyone that plays knows this is true? You lost me a little with your post aside from the part where you've killed a couple people and you are new. Anyways, I'm glad you are having fun as I am and hope you can make it through the PVE.
Ohh funny shit happen just now. I did forgot my skinning knife, and I just logged off. Right now I rather wash my toilet than kill another NPC.
I've done this many times. Thanks for the laugh man, I needed it before I begin killing those mobs Wargh0l told me about.

You've seriously got the right attitude bud, welcome to Agon, and enjoy the journey.

The int stat is locked at 66, and I will never get archmage without macroing. I got the script for mana missile ready, so I guess I would have 75 INT in a few weeks of intensive macroing if I want to risk my char. Right now I wont.
Don't risk your account and please remember all of the PVE you have done. You are so close, don't do it.

Why do you think this will change after another 4,217?
You have to play Darkfall to understand this.
I don't need the grind.....but then I don't grind. I jsut play the game and let things develop by themselves....this is the way that I feel the game was meant to be played. As a result I don't get burned out, I don't get bored, and the game never becomes a chore. It's an adventure, every single day.
