Aion has by far better graphics than AoC. I only played the free part of AoC, didnt enjoy the game. Unless it gets a TON better later on then AoC does not have great graphics.

I think it boils down to art style. AoC has the benefit of having DirectX 10 graphics, which make the game look positively stunning, but features more "realistic" style worlds.
Aion also has great graphics, but the absence of DirectX10 support makes it a bit lower quality. The characters are modeled after anime, and are generally "Pretty" and "Petite", with both the males and females offering little muscle, unlike AoC.
Because of DirectX10 I'd say that AoC has better graphics, even though I like the art style of Aion better.

About the only thing Funcom did well in that game, but from a grapihical standpoint it is rather impressive.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

(2) Immersiveness (that is, the graphics make me feel like I am in the game world's setting).
For photorealism I would nominate Vanguard (parts of it anyway). For immersiveness, um, I'm kinda hurting here. Parts of EQ, parts of WoW, parts of Guild Wars.
EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests
Age of Conan is good Western, Aion is like a mix of fantasy and asian, but Id go with Aion graphics, just amazing. People that say LOTRO graphics, uhm no, ya, its fantasiesh, and good for that, but not in the standings for best graphics, as the thread name implies, thats for character models, however, EVE is what you want for anything out of the ordinary, dont expect WoW if you want that game
MMOs played: Too many Watch List: FFXIV, CoH:GR, GW2, SWTOR, TERA, Earthrise
Considering there is a loading screen every 30 feet in AOC and the terrain has a lot of invisible walls it better have good graphics. I really enjoyed Eve's and Lotro's graphics as they seem to fit better for the theme they are aiming for.
Character graphics are not quite as important to me as I don't spend time zooming in on my characters face but I agree Lotro's leaves a lot to be desired if your the type to get your rocks off staring at your toon. In AOC the fact that I could only be a white guy, a black guy or something in between left me wanting more options as well since I really don't care how many eyebrow options I have. I like different races or types of creatures when I create my toon and only having the option of a black guy, white guy or mexican in AOC was disappointing.
I am curious how many people when they reach end game or whatever actually take the time to examine facial features of other people in game.

From a purely fidelity/quality standpoint, AoC and Eve (Eve mainly lacking in the effects department) win hands down. Sadly, neither is particularly appealing, just province once again that graphics can't trump gameplay.
My eyes can't even tell which have better graphic since after a certain point it becomes meaingless.
Once reaching a certain standards, players generally stop caring about graphics quality and gameplay takes over for good.
Hmm, truthfully I can't even compare across all MMORPG. Some of them use the same engine but go for different art direction which make it difficult to compare. Unless you want to just compare how much more jagged edges one have over the other, but then depending on the texture, one might be more obvious than the other.
Simply put, I can't honest say which is the single best, but there sure are quite a bit of games with great graphics. Mostly already mentioned by other posters.
AoC has decent graphics but is lacking in other departments.
Aion has decent character graphics but the environment looks washed out with low resolution textures and NPCs are low polygon. Plus one side looks flamboyant and the other faction has those stupid tails.
EVE has very slick graphics and looks pretty amazing but it's mostly space.
Same goes for STO. The space and the ship graphics are pretty good.
LoTRO has great environmental graphics but the models and animations leave much to be desired.
Everquest 2 has relatively good graphics. Although a bit outdated, I often find myself admiring the scenery in EQ2.
So which one is better? It's definitely a personal preference. I love EVE's graphics. AoC's and STO's graphics are not bad either. That is if you don't mind playing a shallow and heavily instanced game. For an overall experience, I have to say EQ2. See, it's not enough to have high polygon count or having high resolution textures, it's about making everything work together to make a memorable experience for the player and EQ2 does that well.
AoC has best environmental graphics but not great player models. Maybe in terms of just quality AoC is the best, but to me graphics is art+quality. First prize is for Guild Wars. Game was released in 2005 and even though i dont play it for 3 years, i must admit my eyes are pleased the most when i see screenshot of that phenomenal game.

lol oh boy, I'll go easy on ya bud since it's obvious you never read Robert Ervin Howards books. If you had you would know AoC's graphical theme was very well fit. That canon doesn't have different creatures, just different races of humans I.E. "white guy, black guy or mexican" (lol) Not even sure what you mean about the every 30 seconds loading thing, must be your specs. Sometimes a opinion isn't subjective when it simply is factually incorrect.
As for what I think... I'm gunna go with the majority and say AoC's graphics are really awesome and bloody! LOTRO, EVE and Aion are very nice looking too.
AoC is the best mixture, combined with gore and decent animations. Eve is pretty sharp too, which is a testement to CCPs dedication to the game considering how old it is.

Well, with most mmorpg, muscles can be built via character creation, with Aion, you have lots of choices instead of just the typical default.

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)
I would have two categories for best graphics:
(1) Photorealism; and
(2) Immersiveness (that is, the graphics make me feel like I am in the game world's setting).

So unless Aion and LotRO graphics are improved , they just dont have great graphics at all.
The better the graphics, the worse the lag, imo
And I hate lag.

I think for character modeling both AOC and Aion are really great in terms of graphics.
For world environments I like the way LOTRO does their vibrant and fantastical landscaping. It makes you feel like the world itself has a magic to it.
I agree!

EDIT: Nvm, Ill play,
AoC has teh bestest gfx evar!!11!!1 Aion po0ps!
AOC hands down, released 18 months ago, still no sign of anything on the horizon matching its graphics.

AOC is the easy winner here.
Even if you'd torture me, I will still say Vanguard has the best graphics, the view distance coupled with the terrain detail has no match yet.

LoTRO environmentals
Aion character & armor/weapon models
AoC is the best mixture, combined with gore and decent animations. Eve is pretty sharp too, which is a testement to CCPs dedication to the game considering how old it is.
So you claim, Lotro beats this environment?
