Age of Conan is good Western, Aion is like a mix of fantasy and asian, but Id go with Aion graphics, just amazing. People that say LOTRO graphics, uhm no, ya, its fantasiesh, and good for that, but not in the standings for best graphics, as the thread name implies, thats for character models, however, EVE is what you want for anything out of the ordinary, dont expect WoW if you want that game
PONG! its graphics are sooo advanced your system doesnt require mass upgrades to play it on max settings.
as well it doesnt cause any lag or streching across the screen. and when you attack that little ball... you really attack it.. you dont get out of sync errors.. so honestly the game with the best graphics HAS TO BE PONG!! nothing beats pong unless its pong..
I'm just trying to wrap my brain around the idea of Pong as an MMO.

I say we strike all users from the site for not being MMOs.

I think my brain just rebooted trying to imagine this >_<
Aion IMO* considering it doesn't even feature DX10. I have some good expectations for GW2 though, GW1 was my favorite game graphics-wise before Aion, and it will feature DX10 or maybe even 11. * - Based on what my computer can run at acceptable frame rates, otherwise I'd say AoC or LOTRO. They're outdated though - DX11 is out already.
That doesn't mean very much until MMOs start offering DX11 graphics.
LotRO. I can get past the "waaaaah cartoony" character models and the landscape is beautiful. AoC is second, though to me, the characters look more like plastic action figures and the trees, from a distance, look like crap.
I agree, developers are pushing hardware requirements waaay too hard. As if everyone has the budget to buy a new pc every time a game is released. Why can't they focus on gameplay for a change. There is way too much pressure to deliver "the best" graphics. I say to hell with "the best" grapics, give us a decent game with good gameplay. Or why do you think games like Runescape (been running for 10 years) and World Of Warcraft still haven't died ?
Lord of the Rings Online, literally, has all the excitement of a Bob Ross painting.
Without a doubht, Bob Ross is a fantastic artist who makes beautiful art. But by no means is his art photorealistic or shockingly epic.
Lotro's art is just that, neither shocking nor epic, nor photorealistic. Its just "nice".
Age of Conan's graphics are shockingly photorealistic and supremely epic. IF... YOU... HAVE.. A... FANTASTIC... COMPUTER that can run them with full DX10 glory.
If you can do that, then you just flat out understand that AoC wins this thread's #1 spot. Because you've run throough the AoC wilderness and seen the "godrays" of the sun beams shining through the trees and watched the foilage around your character be displaced and moved as you pass through it. The shine of your leather armor and the gleam of your metal weapons. (Lotro doesn't have any Metalic or Leather effects in their game).
I realize that a lot of people have positive viewpoints of Lotro's graphics, and they should. Lotro is the best looking MMO for the "average computer".
But Age of Conan is king of the graphics in MMOs. But its days at the top are numbered. The Secret World, for instance, will look better when it launches.
If we use the definition of having highest polygon count and animation, Aion is currenty taking the lead. If what we are talking about visual orgasm and fluidity, WoW and Lotro takes the lead.
Well, if we discount that what uses the most advanced techonology and focus purely on the subjective matter of look & feel:
1. EVE Online
2. Age of Conan
3. Aion
Lotro while beautiful at times, does not have the same artistic vision of those three games above. To me Lotro is at times really ugly presentation of engineer designed environments and models, and not those of artists.
Of course I have to mention Wow as well, which even today looks pretty good due to it's artistic vision.
"The person who experiences greatness must have a feeling for the myth he is in."
In my opinion World of Warcraft has the best graphics hands down! I don't say that because it uses the .latest technology or the highest polygon count models but rather because from beginning to end the artistic style and direction are consistent and polished to a fine point. Nothing looks out of place or half baked. I have yet to see a game match that.
I also prefer stylized graphics by far over photo realistic graphics. I think that in a game such as a fantasy MMO photo realistic graphics takes much of the awe and mystery out of the presentation. If I want to see life like trees I can look out the window. I want to see something that looks like I'm in another world.
Before I criticize a man, I walk a mile in his shoes. That way, if he gets angry, he's a mile away and barefoot.
I think WoW has the best graphics and i say this because the graphics fit the environment in the game. Could you imagine WoW having graphics like AoC or Aion it just wouldn't feel right. And you don't need a super computer to play WoW.
If you have a decent computer there is no way that you can say warcraft or lotro look better then AoC. They are not even in the same ball park. Just because you like a game a lot does not mean it has the best or even good graphics at all. This is also coming from someone who has put hours and hours into warcraft and lotro.
That doesn't mean very much until MMOs start offering DX11 graphics.
It means there's room for a big winner to come forth with graphics on a whole new level, at least for those that can run it *cough* DX11 graphics card *cough*.
I'm a huge LotRO fan, at the moment, but recently bought AoC for 5 bucks on Amazon (that included shipping). I'm enjoying AoC, but it does have some faults. Graphics is not one of them.
I would say AoC has the best graphics, by far, followed by LotRO, then EvE, and finally Aion.
Comments
Last time I checked environmentals are graphics.
Runescape
Playing: Rift, LotRO
Waiting on: GW2, BP
So you claim, Lotro beats this environment?
Yes.
No love yet for "Realm of the Mad God" and all it's 8bit glory?
That's a tough one OP, lately I've been playing the Mortal Online beta, it looks decent. But best? Probably AOC for me.

Age of Conan easily.

Say hello, To the things you've left behind. They are more a part of your life now that you can't touch them.
That doesn't mean very much until MMOs start offering DX11 graphics.
That isn't lag you're experiencing then, that's a computer unable to keep up with graphical requirements.
LotRO. I can get past the "waaaaah cartoony" character models and the landscape is beautiful. AoC is second, though to me, the characters look more like plastic action figures and the trees, from a distance, look like crap.
Really difficult..
I would say Age of Conan. But, LotRO is as beautiful. And I have a weakness for Fallen Earth as well.

UO has the best graphics. Any PC can run it. They are immersing, and it actually feels like a game.
Ohh, you mean highest polygon count and what looks prettier? AoC for sure, hands down. Now if Assassin's Creed 2 was an mmorpg...

What he said !! Conan's Graphics hands down.

That's my 2 cents.
LOTRO gets my vote
A witty saying proves nothing.

AoC
Aion
EVE
Lotro

Graphics are subjective.
