Ok on a more serious note it doesn't surprise me that trolls are being deleted. It happens on all MMos and will continue till the end of time. Sorry this is your first MMo, but in the long span of MMos this moderation is very common, and every intelligent company out there will do it. Have you ever tried to criticize mmorpg.com? I bet they'd delete your post and they aren't even a game company.

What do you mean now? They've been doing this for the last 4-5 days with the whole atari debacle. Then there wasn't quite as much an uproar because the people who were being banned were being labelled as haters and whiners. I imagine that people weren't happy with the stf they released and these are the posts getting closed/deleted? I haven't been on the forums today until recently and I have to wonder what else happened as some of the most vocal supporters of cryptic are starting to voice complaints/concerns. GIving all the negative publicity over the last few days on multiple gaming blogs/sites Im sure somone upstairs told the mods to get the negative publicity off the forums and that's what they're doing. People on the forums are applauding today again until it happens to them or their pet issue is the one that gets stepped on.
Well, when you think about it, there's probably very little that can be criticized about this game that hasn't already been done about a thousand times before.
At some point, might as well just delete them since its the same thing ad nasuem.
From their viewpoint, they have nothing really to lose and everything to gain by cleaning up their forums of theads/posts that paint the game in a negative light.
Not saying I agree with it, but I do understand why they'd do it.

Very True, cats been out of the bag for a while now. Nothing really to contain to just their forums anymore.

trust me i am not defending craptic/atrocious in any way shape or form. I think they are utter crap and deserve what is happening to them. i was just posting on what was happening today. their are already other posts on what happened over the weekend.
Today is the last day people that activated on Feb 2nd can play on their "free" box time. Wasn't CO in the same neighborhood on Xfire its' launch month before dropping off a cliff? I'm guessing we'll see a similar plummet with this pile.

They always lag behind a week or two. And yeah it is silly what they are doing but if they want to keep there rabid fans happy they have to do it seeing that the word is out and they will not be getting any new ones.

In Europe they still have some game time left, as well as people who didn't activate their keys right away. The next week will be really telling on the long term survival of this game. If it drops to past #200 like CO has, then I think Cryptic is pretty much doomed.

In general, telling someone to "shut up" is not considered conducive to good conversation.

And you know, I think that's really what it's all about. MMORPG.com probably gets paid by these advertisements and so therefore any negative feedback could upset the game companies that are being bashed. Well I guess that was a no brainer, but the the point I'm trying to make is I'm actually considering ditching this place myself. I'm actually thinking about starting my own site. I already run a pretty nice forum. I pretty much let people say what they want unless it's blatant advertising or it's excessively rude. In which case I just delete the post. I've only ever banned one person.

I think you can have as many criticism threads as you want. The problem is that some forum posters aren't clear on what constructive criticism is and just plain trolling and flaming.
In the end it starts becoming more about vendetta and less about pointing out the major issues of a game. Which of course is a disservice to the players because if a game does have issues then it needs to be talked about.
My thought is that if one wants to do a criticism thread or post they should just put it as if they were talking to their boss or their ceo or someone who you generally have to curb your tongue when talking to them.
An explanation of any game's shortcomings is of great value. But pages and pages of rants and attacks just doesn't do anyone any good, will get deleted and then people won't be informed of the particular game's issues.

I thought this thread was about the mmorpg.com forums as well. Which is what made it so ironic that it was a long thread of criticism that wasn't deleted.
To everyone who says Cryptic is doomed, you all know it's false. They'll make a new IP, the game will be hype like never before, people will buy it, the game will fail....and the cycle continues.
A lot of people tend to buy in the hype, just reading these forums is proof enough.
There's a new "WoW-Killer" every month....I mean really...
As someone who really enjoys Champions and plays everyday, I can admit that most of the people who quit did so rationally because of flaws they saw in the game. But, the much larger group of people who diss CO without having played it are partly a product of Cryptic's poor public relations at the time of launch. One of the things they did poorly with CO was to let the forums be over-run with negative rants. I am not talking about constructive criticism, or even venting frustration, I am talking about people who were just hanging out to spew negativity. Back then, Cryptic even tolerated talking about other games on the official forums, so one of the most popular thread topics was Aion.
Look, I think STO is a bad game and I did my best to warn people not to buy it. But enough is enough, there are too many bored folks on the internet who just enjoy furiously arguing about games, the arguing becomes a hobby in itself, and at that point I don't think official forums should put up with it. Constructive criticism and frustrated rants are one thing, but people who hang out just to feed on the upset emotions of others will get no sympathy from me when their threads are closed.
