Care to list those sandbox choices that are in WoW please. Just wondering what you consider to be a choice in a game, it may help explain why you have issues with MO.
Want to craft? Go do gathering of resources, spend all day getting those resources and making stuff to sell in the auction house.
Want to adventure? Go join a random party, go explore some dungeon.
Want to PvP? You can do battlegrounds, or you can do Arena.
Now, I'm not saying that WOW is a sandbox by any means -- I'm just saying they provide more tools for you to do what you want to do, or at least OPTIONS, than MO does. MO throws you in the world and says "use your imagination" because the NPCs don't work, thieves are annoying, and the only difference is if you kill them you can get some free stuff they just stole from you. Oh you can PvP -- but it doesn't mean anything. At least in WOW you can PvP and it means something because you get access to a dungeon, or specific items as PvP rewards or whatever. And the saddest thing of all -- WOW's PvP system is more in depth and skillful than MO's. Yes, I said it, go cry about how I should "go back to wow noob". I actually like WOW, for a different type of game. I was hoping MO would replace my want for UO. UO is a better game 10 years ago than MO is today. I will continue waiting for the next great UO replacement -- right now, DFO is probably the closest but the PvP sucks bigtime, so I can't bother with it. UO's emphasis was on singular PvP skill and teamwork as a bonus to that. MO has no skill in their PvP system because it's so poorly designed, and their teamwork can't be accomplished ingame because there are NO TOOLS FOR IT.
Anyway, I am certain that people will pick up on the fact that I said WOW is better than MO, so I'll just wait until they respond so I can laugh at how horrible their arguments will be as a response. "GBTWOW NOOB" is about as intelligent as they can usually muster so let's see if I'm wrong and they can actually give me a proper defense of MO's combat versus UO, DF, or WOW.
And now it finally comes to a head that you are from WoW. That EXPLAINS ALOT.
Mortal online compared to your list of sandbox tools.
Want to craft? Go team up with an extractor and a gatherer and build weapons TONS of different builds from handles to heads to grip types. Spongewood core with a Horn outer coat 2handed grip and a Steel great blade. Or how about a ironwood core, bonetissue coat quellion grip with a cuprum tripleblade head. Want to build your own house? Go out and make the metal or wood, depending on what you put in your house it will increase its durability. Want to add a furnace in your house for refining? How about upgrading it to have a second floor or even a 3rd. What about making it a huge keep and gathering taxes from the local area? Does WoW have these things? Not even close....... get your ore, smelt it to whatever metal and combine it with whatever predetermined material to get the same blade some guy next to you just made.
Want to adventure? Tons of world to explore cave systems, mobs to kill for materials. Grab some guild members or friends and go do whatever you want. Tame a few horses, ride around and look for shit to do....kill reds, kill blues.. ect ect... merchant it up and go gather hard to get materials from far away places. Sell them in town for whatever you want..
Want to pvp and take other peoples shit its open all day no restrictions. Even in a blue city at night you can get away with murder if you are clever enough. PVP battles happen every day and while sometimes pvp is buggy, when it isn't, it makes you smile and realize what a great game you have.
The problem 90% of the haters on these forums have is that they lack the IMAGINATION and DETERMINATION to actually accomplish anything without some GIANT GOLD EXCLAMATION MARK or someones hand dragging you along.

I'll say it again as I have said it before. Mortal isn't perfect and has its flaws. But with what I have to play with right at this moment it works for me and I am having a great time. If SV can keep up with bug smashing and add onto this core they have here the game will be all that I am looking for and more. Only time will tell and im willing to bet you won't be around here when SV makes it.

I wouldn't scream 'go back to wow noob' because wow is a good game, if you like that sort of game. Personally I did not but I can appreciate how you do, I can see what there is to like, it's just not my type of thing. But that's okay, that's why we have all these different types of games because there are different types of people. Some games you will like some you will not, everybody is different. You like wow and dislike MO, I dislike wow (notably for some of the reasons that you have as 'options') and could like MO, so long as they are able to tidy what they have.
Perhaps you are trying to convince yourself that you like sandbox game, perhaps not, I'm not you, I don't know. But for example
'Want to craft? Go do gathering of resources, spend all day getting those resources and making stuff to sell in the auction house.'
For me there are so many things with this sentance given the context that you are talking about wow it's hard to know where to begin. Besides which I'm not sure you would apreciate those differences anyway because you feel this is a tool. In it's most basic form when I read this (having played wow) I see, 'You can grind nodes on your most epic of epic mounts and prey that others are not 5 minutes ahead of you in the resource chase. You can do that all day and aside from dodging mobs little else will bother you. When you're done you create an item identical to the guy who was 5 minutes in front of you and attempt to sell that item for probably less than it cost in effort and time to make. If by chance the item is actually valuable it will still be identical to everyone elses who has craft that item once bought that itme will be in the world forever and there is no return custom for that again from the buyer'.
I'm genuinely am not being sarcastic or funny so I'm not about to type a wall of text picking apart each of the examples you gave because there is little point as I honestly feel your mind on these things is probably all ready made and that's a good thing, choice is the only thing we have. I choose to play MO and you choose to play wow because you feel it has a better toolbox, I don't agree but I can respect your choice, your preference in the types of games you prefer.

I REALLY hope this game doesn't screw up and come out before they should. They should wait till just before FFXIV comes out to give them time and fix this mess. I like how its like a modern EQ1 kind of game. A good 6 months would help save the game if they can afford the wait.
For all you MO fanz. Open your eyes and realize that there are other sandbox MMOs on the market. These are much better in grafics, conent, pvp, pve and mostly in everything. Some of them are also closer to UO then MO. I would like to hear what is the good thing in MO?! i've been playin it for months and i still can't come up with a single thing that makes MO to be the best sandbox MMO. http://www.dawntide.net/ http://www.xsyon.com/features
I dont get it. . you don't like it but you have been playing it for months. . you say there are better games out there and you link to Xsyon. . a feature list and screenshots. . a game that was unheard of and no one has played that releases in a month?
Yes, i don't like it as it is at the moment. But i've been playing it for moths cause i wanted to make sure i see the whole picture before i make my personal judgement. And i wanted to get something for my money btw.
What is your problem with Xyson?! Are you sayin' that it can't be a good game if there is no Close/Open beta for years before release ?! I linked the feature's list cause i want to show others ,there are actually other sandbox mmos that are just missing the hype. MO's hype comes from it's bad reputation,we can both aggree on it.
Imho in MO everything sucks big time. from the basic concept til the endgame content.
Makin' an MMO with a bad network engine ?! foolish. Mortal Online will simply never become an MMO , cause the first "M" indicates Massively ... the server can't handle it.Nor now , either in the future. If the lag in the game seems to disappear,it's not becuase they've fixed a damn thing. It's because ppl are ragequiting from the open beta. The roll playing thing is just simply does'nt exist in the game. You can level you caracter to the max just in max. 2 days.No matter what roll you want to play.
Crafting sucks. You can craft 14 million different items, but we all know nothing is better than a thungsteel dual sword atm.
Same patern applies to the armours. Scout armour ? rofl, bone armour rofl. This is the reason why all the players look the same, and they are fighting with the same weapons. ( i would say waving in the air with their weapons and hoping they will hit in the lag )
And what is the endgame content ? the pvp ? guild vs guild ? is it all that it can offer for my money ? no thanks , find an other fool

again, this is not a sandbox game
you are forced at gunpoint - so to speak - to group/guild, which is fine if that is the only way you want to play every time you log on
each of your points you can do on your own but you can't do any 2 unless you create alt characters in order to make more or less one complete character - and that is pretty sad, isn't it?
again, the limited skillpoints allow you to pick ONE form of play and that is all - not exactly a sandbox now is it?
You can do so many things that you can do nothing.
it's the same with crafting. There will always be a best kind of weapon or armour,so u don't really need 14 million different crafting when you would be stupid to fight with a wooden stick instead of a steal greatblade. You can craft so many different kinds that you craft only one.

No one is forcing you to join up with anyone. But lets look at this in a real life situation kinda way. Lets say you are interested in building a car from scratch. Your friend is also interested in building a car as well. The difference is your friend decides to get a few other people to help him build this car. His time is cut down because others are helping him build this car. But because you chose to do it yourself it takes you 4 times as long to finish compared to your friend. Now, you still finished regardless of having friends help or not.
This is how MO works. I can make anything I want without help or do anything I want without friends. But there will be more risk and I will have a tougher time getting what I want.
You also have 3 character slots to make whatever you would like to make. EVE is similar except you can only train one character at a time per account. ALSO you are not limited to what you can do, you can RELEARN anything and train for whatever you want, the predefined backgrounds don't mean shit, they just help allieviate the noobie experience. The skill cap is what keeps the Darkfall syndrom from taking over MO and honestly it is needed. If you cannot be satisfied with 3 character slots where you can rebuild any character as many times as you want to do whatever you want then I do not know what to tell ya.
Go play DF, and when you decide its not fair because in order to get 1 billion points in skills will take you 1 year of constant grinding and by that time the people who had 1 billion will have 2 billion in the never ending cycle of UNLIMITED skill points is unfair come back and let us know.
Yes i aggree ! You can do so many things that you can do nothing. it's the same with crafting. Actually there isn't any best weapon and will not be any best weapon. The devs are balancing out weapons to do different things. For an example great mauls will hit like a truck attack time slow but require a lot of stamina, daggers will be quick do minimal damage and require barely and stamina to swing. The combos you can get just between those two extremes are vast. Not to mention that metal/bone type of blade will change these in certain degrees as well as the handles core/grip material type.
Armor already has weight on it and after a certain point effects movement. This system is still being worked on and in the end will be similar to what I described in the weapons. Materials will affect movement, stamina drain during sprinting, jumping height, sprinting speed and the all important damage mitigation. Helmets are even restricting to visibility with full helm vs half helm.
So please before you spread misinformation do some homework on what you talk about.

Oreal52 spoke in the present.. you are speaking of promises in the future. What he said is true IMHO .. there WILL be a prefered weapon and that will become the prevalent one. There might be a few choices.. like.. the best 1 hander.. the best 2 hander.. and maybe the best quick dagger.. but thats about it.
Once this "system" is actually in place and is proven to be 100% balanced with no favorite weapons.. you are welcome to come back and point it out to us. Until then you might want to refrain from calling people out on spreading "misinformation".

My problem is that you said that there are better games out there. You listed two one of which you can not possibly say is better having never played it. You seem angry so I am going to let the conversation drop.
I don't have a problem with the game itself. I am posting the the forums there. I think it sounds wonderful. . but so did MO. . no fair to say Xyson is better based on feature list alone and say that MO sucks and that its feature list doesn't count.
You either compare them both the same (based on features that are promised - or based on your experience playing them).
I am actually impressed that they try to fix things before the release. That is good, the problem seems to be that they have been a bit optimistic with the release date to say the least.
This doesn't sound like a miracle patch, the game will need a few more patches before release and miracle patches doesn't really exist. But at least they are trying, just keep patching until the game is ready for release and all is well. Giving up and just releasing would cost a lot in the long run.

How are you impressed by a process that has been ongoing since the start of closed beta block A? Almost all of their time was spent trying to fix stuff, and now and then throwing in new things which were broken and/or broke pre-existing stuff.
Randomt: Because I thought they would just release the junk last autumn as unplayable as Vanguard. I am always impressed when someone is at least trying to fix their product.
I know, I should be easy to impress but sadly not with MMOs. If WAR would have waited another 6 months it might have been large today.

Heh I see.. well I played vanguard on release, and it was perfectly playable and somewhat enjoyable, and for the most part a complete game.
WAR as well.. It was just fine on release.. the problem was that we all expected something like DaoC, and what we got was WoW heh
MO.. big land, not much on it, not much in the way of features implemented, and those that are, are buggy as heck..

Mmm I wouldn't say I'm impressed. Given that they intend to charge people (and already have taken people's money from pre-orders), fixing things before the release is the very least we should expect from a respectable company.
I don't expect MO to have groundbreaking graphics and sound, nor do I expect it to have epic quest arcs and massive amounts of PvE content on release. Even WoW had just a handful of instances and one raid on release, and I respect that SV is a small team.
What I do expect as a bare minimum however is a polished game with content that works properly. That is what I'm paying for and that is why I get so fed up with Starvault releasing crap that clearly hasn't even been checked before being released for wider testing. It just makes me wonder if they're going to take this slapdash approach after release as well.

Not much improvement from last fall, really
1. Vanguard perfectly playable?? It took several months before you could even be online for more than 20 minutes. If you did groups, the lag was so terrible, that you would surely die in a dungeon. As a fanboy (also in open beta) I stayed for about 6 months, but most left after 2-3 months (200.000 -> 40.000, and I guess there is about 10.000 playing now). I guess you could blame it on the "success" of 200.000 people, but it was just as bad after 40.000, and it took 1½ years before the game was somewhat playable. But there are still inexcusable bugs in some starting areas, now three years after launch!
2. This game is not made with a huge budget, backed up by big corporations. It is an indie game, that focuses on making a "realistic" fantasy game, in the sandbox genre. There shouldn't be anything for you to take a ride in. You make the quests, you build your destiny with other players in the game.

There shouldn't be anything for you to take a ride in. You make the quests, you build your destiny with other players in the game.

Sorry what game is that? Because that wasnt Vanguard.
I didnt have any problems with VG other than I got to level 50, and there was nothing left to do, areas not even done yet, and classes are major out of balance.
Yup.. they promise (again) that THIS time they have the lag issues fixed!
Monday's patch will be almost exclusively dealing with the desync / performance issues and critical bugs. This should hopefully solve most of the problems you guys are experiencing at the moment.

If they're charging monthly fee, no one cares about how "indie" they are. You either brawl in the big leagues and charge the big bucks or you take your indie into F2P gaming. You can't have your cake and eat it too.
As per sandboxes, I personally have played EvE Online for years. Is is a different type of game? Absolutely. Does it matter in the slightest concering sandbox comparisons? Not in a million years. Compare EO's world, full of player-held space, made possible by countless game mechanics specifically designed to give power to the player in military, economical and social areas and MO's game mechanics ... which more or less do not exist.
For some reason people defending MO seem to equal "sandbox" to "lack of content". This is simply a fallacious assumption to base one's arguments on. How many content patches has EvE Online had? Plenty. And each and every one of them added *more* power into player hands, expanding the sandbox enviroment. Content does not limit you, that is a completely wrong lookout - it's about producing content that will immerse players and make them create their own world around it. But setting a player into an empty world and calling it sandbox is not my idea of fun.
I won't be playing MO (though I tried), but if anyone else still, after all the betas and patches, thinks that sandbox is what MO is all about, go forth and enjoy yourselves. I'll have my opinion and I won't stop you from having yours.

Dawntide is pretty crappy, I'll go with www.xsyon.com

I would like to hear what is the good thing in MO?! i've been playin it for months and i still can't come up with a single thing
that makes MO to be the best sandbox MMO.

Yes i aggree !
You can do so many things that you can do nothing.
it's the same with crafting. There will always be a best kind of weapon or armour,so u don't really need 14 million different crafting when you would be stupid to fight with a wooden stick instead of a steal greatblade. You can craft so many different kinds that you craft only one.
LOL. I can use vastness of my imagination without paing the highest monthly fee in the industry.

Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!
Not much improvement from last fall, really

/rant ended :P
Sorry what game is that? Because that wasnt Vanguard.
I didnt have any problems with VG other than I got to level 50, and there was nothing left to do, areas not even done yet, and classes are major out of balance.

The patch didnt seem to address the lag/sync issues, in fact I'd say they are worse.
I win!!! LOL@U

Just give Starvault some time and they will fix it!
