WoW winning the poll? On this website? Hell has finally frozen over lol.
Qu: So can you imagine what it is in the real world out there ?
An: Yes, 11.5 M paying subs against 300K votes,
Con: So why even ask ... People only pay for what they like.
Favorite (subscription based) MMORPG's polls should be the easiest poll to hold each month.
I actually have to AGREE with you, for once.
Favorite polls are kind of pointless. Even if WoW didn't, by some FLUKE, win the poll on MMORPG.com, it would still only be a reflection of a very tiny, almost microscopic, segment of the gamer population. AND....even most of us that do hang around the forums here, have played WoW, and some of us will even admit to having enjoyed it at one point in time if we're honest. So yes...a bit silly to keep having these "what is your favorite game" type polls.
Calling EQ2, with its much deeper crafting and support systems "like a worse WoW', isn't just insulting, it's counter-factual. Regardless of that, my vote, even if EQ2 or Vanguard had been included, would be AC1.
Top three? AC1, EQ1, UO.
Bottom three? Horizons. Shadowbane. WoW.
Most admired for marketing themselves into their sub numbers? WoW (how many times have I heard morons talking about how every other game got its ideas from WoW -- when WoW itself is merely a shadow of the ideas of others that came before it with no effort to actually evolve those ideas)
Game I'd play and never leave if it was offered F2P (can't afford a sub right now)? Vanguard. If Vanguard were actually fixed, it would be hands-down the best game out there. The ideas are in place, but it's on broken code..
Calling EQ2, with its much deeper crafting and support systems "like a worse WoW', isn't just insulting, it's counter-factual. Regardless of that, my vote, even if EQ2 or Vanguard had been included, would be AC1. No joke. EQ2 is, in my opinion, endlessly better than WoW, in almost every way. Even if you forget the far better crafting, the fact that EQ2 still has more roles in combat, including support roles like crowd control that are actually useful, and housing that blows almost all other AAA game housing away...even if you DIDN'T mention those things...it's still better than WoW, in my opinion. AC1 is one of the few games that I somehow never got to play. I think I must have been playing UO back then. Top three? AC1, EQ1, UO. Bottom three? Horizons. Shadowbane. WoW. Most admired for marketing themselves into their sub numbers? WoW (how many times have I heard morons talking about how every other game got its ideas from WoW -- when WoW itself is merely a shadow of the ideas of others that came before it with no effort to actually evolve those ideas) Truth. Game I'd play and never leave if it was offered F2P (can't afford a sub right now)? Vanguard. If Vanguard were actually fixed, it would be hands-down the best game out there. The ideas are in place, but it's on broken code.. And more truth.
There are lots of MMORPG’s but you really cannot say which one is best because its your personal opinion. Well, if you go by statistics, WoW has the most subscribers, at something like 8 million. I myself find mmorpg's fun I've went from a few ones but now I'm set on warrock as it also has a good player base… That could be my favorite. I just feel whether you buy, or download for free and pay warrock premium, it is well worth it.
Final Fantasy XI. I loved the community. The linkshell system, which encouraged more socialization than traditional Guilds. The art style. The class system (talking about the sub jobs). The storylines. The need to group to get things done. Just about everything about it.
Playing - EVE, Wurm
Retired - Final Fantasy XI, Anarchy Online, Mabinogi
For me its a toss up between WoW ( or what WoW was in its first 3 years the game now is a totally different entity to what it was back then) and Lord of the Rings Online which retains its quality but lacks the pvp .
Thinking back at all the MMOs I played, and thinking of them at thier prime. DAoC is the winner, with EQ and FFXI close behind.
Really they each have the best in one certain aspect. DAoC had (and still does imho) the best PvP ever in any MMO. EQ had the best PvE raids I can remember. FFXI has the best community and very good PvE. DAoC wins because they had PvP cornered in the market and the community was great too. The GMs in DAoC were the best, and still are the best I've ever interacted with in any other MMO. It was like they were people on your friendlist, and could call them up for things at a moment's notice.
That's really disappointing to see that SWG only has 10.5% of the votes.
You have to realize that not everyone played all the games on the list. If more people played games like SWG they would understand its greatness.
Similarily, the people voting for EQ must have never played UO =P
I played SWG, key problems with the game preventing me from getting into it. I missed out on the best parts and there for the worst it seems. The god awful launch put me off for a while, then the Jedi issues kept me away, and the lack of PvP. Coming from DAoC I NEEDED good PvP. Too bad, I missed JTLS, which would have been right up my alley.
2- Far from Pre-CU SWG, Eve. There is a lot of fun to be had in Eve and it has nothing to do with 0.0 or empire building. Only problem with Eve is it feels more like an MMORTS than a MMORPG and RTS games do not have the replay value for me.
3- Ryzom, some good stuff, but not enough to keep me interested.
The rest of the MMORPGs I played are not my cup of tea and in my opinion suck. Played EQ, LOR, WOW, Vanguard, and some others I am forgetting. They all stunk.
--When you resubscribe to SWG, an 18 yearold Stripper finds Jesus, gives up stripping, and moves with a rolex reverend to Hawaii. --In MMORPG's l007 is the opiate of the masses. --The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence! --CCP could cut off an Eve player's fun bits, and that player would say that it was good CCP did that.
My favorite MMO of all time is eq2. I thought Everquest was too slow and boring and WoW far too easy but really eq2 got it right. Since there is no option to vote for eq2 I voted for Lineage II. Even though those games are different in many ways I thought they had the same spirit. Features such as the leveling class system really made me care about my characters. I will never forget that attachment even though eq2 nerfed its' original class system.
Ok let's vote: I raise my hand and I represent 11.500.000 paid subscribers.
Paid subscribers of other games raise their hands ... Oh I see two in the back of the room but they are discussing over 7 other games.
Well, you can't win over all people all of the time.
What are you babbling about?
Obviously WoW is going to win in a real vote.
Today's mmo genre is split into three sections.
You have WoW, Then you have the failed WoW clones and the third is the Niche games.
Honestly I think we would have many more people on these forums that are actually happy with the genre if they played WoW or the niche products. Just look at the haters, most are playing the failed clones and hate blizzard for it.

From the perspective of which MMO I've gained consistent enjoyment from, I'd have to vote WoW.
Final Fantasy XI. I loved the community. The linkshell system, which encouraged more socialization than traditional Guilds. The art style. The class system (talking about the sub jobs). The storylines. The need to group to get things done. Just about everything about it.

Is it even fair to put WoW in that poll? For the majority of people still around its the ONLY MMO they've ever played.

WoW didn't do everything right, but it did more things more right than any of the others.
I still like Istaria and go on from time to time.
Make games you want to play.

Wrong. Sorry. WoW did so little, it could have done everything right, but its so small and limited in scope that it doesn't matter.
Anarchy Online for me, it was one of my first MMOs
Incredible.
WOW won this poll on mmorgp-I hate_WoW.com !

Want a real mmorpg? Play WOW with experience turned off mode and be Pve_Pvp King at any level without a rat race.

"Old school & golden age MMO's only"
Then mind my asking, but what in lord allmighty's name is World of Warcraft doing in the list?
Perhaps because it is ... 10.000 more worth gold than the other duds in the list.. ?
