As for "Night Vision" you mean to tell me you can see just fine on a dark night, in the woods, with trees blocking any ambient light (which gives you your "night vision") you can see just fine?
On a cloudy night, in a thick forest then yes it is very dark and you will stuggle to see where you're going. You'd still be able to avoid walking into things though. However, Mortal Online's world consists largely of open plains and even on a dark night you'd still be able to see features like tree-lines, hills, rivers etc, even people at a distance if they're moving. Right now on MO you can barely see your own hands in the dark.
Ironically, having a lit torch like that would *reduce* the distance you can see in the dark because you'd get the ambient glow, then a curtain of blackness at the edges.
This wouldnt be too bad if you get some sort of night vision skill increase for being out in the night. Like in villages, cities, pathway's, etc, its all lit up by torches or something so you wont increase your vision at night. But when you venture away from the light your skill or adaptation to vision at night goes up gradually. Might not make it too bad. But if thats how it is at all times at night.............

Wouldn't count on it. Many critical features were suppose to be in months ago, and they still have not made it. They might release that feature 6 months from now.
If you are having trouble seeing anything in the videos, adjust lighting on the monitor and try to limit the white background of youtube.
Night shadows and lighting still need to be improved in game, but for the most part, fighting at night gets your blood pumping and keeps you on your toes.
I've payed attention to the sounds my characters make when moving and fighting, and learned to listen for others as well.
The experience very different... even if it puts people on edge I still find I like it.
I've made the change to turn on light reflections from other player's torches and it does look very nice.

So the only way to play at night is to turn my brightness and gamma all the way up on my monitor......?
It gets your blood pumping as you do not even see what your doing?
Experience is very different than what people are use to, we are use to actually seeing what we are doing, not using our imagination...

I will go ahead and add one more clarification for individuals like Mr. Mccoy here...
Adjust lighting on the monitor means lighting in your room or office where you are currently watching the youtube videos. The effects of white light around dark images makes them difficult to view.
Mr. Mccoy,
Take a breath or two before you post to think about what is being said. It will help you formulate a better response.
Mr. Mccoy?
So I have to turn off my lights and turn up the brightness/gamma on my monitor? What?
(Having a white background does not matter as I maxed out the video and it still could not see anything, so your argument is invalid IMO)
All I can see is fumbling in the dark, grunts, groans, and cries. Wait, Are you sure this is Mortal Online gameplay or something more....?
~Miles "Tails" Prower out! Catch me if you can!
Sweaty naked men groan in darkness -they should make MO into prison simulation mmo, after all they have an abundance of penises already in the game and the right target audience.

The whole selling point of this game was "Realistic".
As for "Night Vision" you mean to tell me you can see just fine on a dark night, in the woods, with trees blocking any ambient light (which gives you your "night vision") you can see just fine?
Definetlely seeing anything is not realistic, but csting spells is
I have never understood why this is a good argument. I see it get used quite often by people who think they are making a strong point when actually they're not really making any point at all. The implementation of magic into a game world does not automatically give licence to all other forms of realism in a game becoming obsolete. If some inhabitants of a particular world can develop the ability to cast spells then that is simply a "normal" or "realistic" skill for that world. The standard laws of reality still apply though.......unless a spell gave you the ability to break those laws (such as seeing in the dark for example).
Casting spells isnt realistic on our planet......but Mortal Online isnt set on our planet so why bother with the "spells arent realistic" statement? Casting spells IS realistic.......for that particular world.
Honestly, don't have a clue how their darkness system works but this is pretty dreadful. I don't know how darkness emerges (gradual or instant) but they most likely have some basic light value that is altered for the night. Maybe adjusting it a bit and then adding stars/moon as independent light sources would do quite some good. This way darkness would change from one night to another based on the weather making cloudy nights the best time to launch an assault adding actual depth to the gameplay. As such, this is hardly worth defending as a system. Night can be pitch black but, darn, you can atleast see a few meters/yards in front of you nonetheless.

Playing MO already makes me feel unclean enough as it is. I just pity the guy who was assigned to creating the penis artwork. Do you think they used their own todger as a reference?
To those who think people complain because it is to hard, please get a clue. People complain because its like a Helen Keller knife fight. There is zero entertainment in fighting a black screen. It will get old and the novelty will wear off. With all the different issues present a realistic night was not on the top of the list. The amount of people playing this decreases everyday and for a game in bad need of money to continue development thats not a good thing.
The fans do not care. They want the developers to develop which ever way they want, if they want people fighting on a black screen, so be it. If the developers want nudity in the game, while most people do not want that type of filth in the game, the fans will defend them and their ideas. Pretty funny that people are saying that its realistic and that its fun to fight on a black screen, but I would bet those opinions are from the hardcore fans, which is probably 10% of the game's population. Majority think its a bad idea or even a joke the developers are playing with them, but they will soon find out at launch...

Possibly. My clan is fairly hardcore into the game and all of them hate the night cycle. Most just log off. Not because its a challenge but because its boring and borderline retarded
I want games to be so realistic that if my character doesn't eat properly he gets diabetes and microing his blood sugar becomes a major game element.
I second that. When people talk about how having full nudity adds realism to the game I often suggest that we should take eatting to the next level and require us to go potty as well...

That would make the game epic! I want realism where I have to eat in the game every 8 hours (even if I am offline) If I do not log in to feed my character, the next time I play he would be dead of starvation. I also want to go potty! Realism rules!
As a person who spends a lot of time in the woods at night, if the moon is up at all, then you can see quite clearly. If there is no moon, then nearby ambient light, like from a nearby town, will allow you to see quite clearly. If there is no local light, and no moon, then starlight will allow you to see well enough to walk around.
So I guess this video is of a fight taking place far from any towns, on a moonless night, with full cloud cover.
I like the fact that having torches and other light sources is important in a mideval game. Back in those times light wasn't plentyful everywhere you went when you were walking around so when the sun goes does most people went to their keeps or inns and stayed there. I do feel though that when the moon is out it should properly reflect some light on surfaces to some degree.
Back in UO days you were screwed in some dungeons if you didn't have night sight potions or a cloak. Also anyone else have issues in EQ as a newbie Erud (or whatever they were?) Totally blind until found a fire beetle eye/wisp sphere thingy...
That kind of stuff would make it better in MO although seriously need to do some work on the ambient lighting from the moon and at least have semi decent vision 5-10m away from your avatar if it's a cloudy sky.
I personally like the added tension of not being able to make out wtf is 'just past those trees', 'in that cave', if i didn't have a light source..and light sources would make great targets for people/mobs to ambush...nothing says 'target' like some guy wandering around with a bunch of sticks on fire.
This kinda stuff needs decent ambient lighting for shadow sneaking and sounds to make effective though...not sure if MO could pull it off unfortunately.

Nothing like "hiding" in the shadows while its daylight on your foes computer. Daylight is just a hack away.
Had some night fighting, damn it's nice when there are 3 guys around one with a torch giving some light and other ones fighting. Fabernum backyard is great place :P
