man, am i enjoying this game.

Sure lots of people complain about the "grind", but what mmo doesn't have grind? i simply dont care about my stats and only focus on enjoying the simple yet exciting combat, the huge world, the smart npc, the higher level gankers, the afk gathering (man i love taking brakes and still being able to farm something), the crafting, the land and the people in it.

The most refreshing part of this game i'd have to say it's the combat. Not perfect by any means but quite smooth and more challenging then most other mmos. Even as a lowbe with little health and few skills there is really no "1 shotted". Sure you'll loose but you can get a few hitts in no matter how high your opponent is.

NO CC....man do i love this set up. Go in shooting/swinging and die fighting. None of this "can't do that wile dieing" crap. No matter how weak i am i'll die swinging covered in my my own and my enemy's blood. HELL YEA!

Mounted fighting that actually works :)

Full loot, definately makes every decision you make important. Not even a trip to the work bench is trival OR safe. Even returning to your bank with 50 iron feels like and achievment. You did not get me this time. I survived. I won this battle. The war will only rage on.

I started this game very skeptical and did not like it right away but the more i play the more i get attached to it.  I'v only just begun but more and more do i want to live, fight, and die in DF. We truly need more games like this one.

Nice to hear your having fun and this one of the better insights to darkfalI have read.

    Good lucks and have fun.

Totally agree. Since starting DF about 2months ago I've continued to enjoy the game more every time I play. If your having fun now wait until you can hold your own in pvp and not feel as scared going out on your own. Every night is still a different experience depending on what my goal is. I can honestly say Darkfall has been the most fun I've had in a MMO since starting way back with EQ1.

DFO imo is one of the best pvp MMOs out right now, hands down. If 2010 is good to DFO it will only get better :-)

Excellent post my man, glad you too are having a blast in the world of Agon. It's true that once you get past the initial "OMFG WHAT DO I DO!" stage you really can start to truly appreciate Darkfall for the amazing game that it really is.

Keep having fun buddy, and just wait until you get to experience an epic siege or naval combat.

It's quite ironic that Darkfall, one of the most brutal games in the industry has one of the cleanest forums on the site. Anyone else notice that Darkfall generally gets good responses from players?

Well, it's because once people decide to not listen to the ridiculously stupid trolls on these and other forums and actually give Darkfall a try, they realize what they've been missing out on and how different and awesome Darkfall really is.

The genre is filled with cookie-cutter clones, TONS of them, and Darkfall is so much different from anything out there that a lot of people who are bored with the genre will fall in love with it simply because it's unique, different, and exhilarating.

To each his own. I found the combat lacking. It was just click as fast as your litlle fingers can and rotate like a tornado.

Darkfall's character development is pretty cookie-cutter in my eyes. You're rather limited in what you can actually raise.

That's exactly how I felt. I thought the game was lacking in graphics, gameplay, and especially animation. The Character customization was entirely too limited and the NPCs felt lack-luster and poorly introduced. Towns seemed empty, and enemy AI was all about circling you and stabbing you.

I thought the game was one of my worst nightmares. I kept having to pinch myself every few minutes during the $1 trial to see if I was dreaming.

    Should've bought a 7-up...

Are you trolling? How can you click in this game at all? If you somehow attempted to click in DFO, you played it completely wrong and no wonder the game sucked for you.

You can raise everything, which isn't seen in other MMOs for the most part. I love how what you use skills up as you use it, instead of "get 1,000,000 EXP to reach the next level and unlock 2 more spells you can use" character progression you see in almost all other MMOs.

Now, character CREATION and CUSTOMIZATION in the beginning is pretty lack-luster, if I do say so myself, but I can't see how you think the character development is cookie-cutter at all.

If you're only using melee and not using anything else or any melee skills, then yes, I could see why you'd think that.

But using magic, archery, mounted combat, or even melee skills and specializations certainly is NOTHING like what you're talking about. Also, if you have a shield or parry with a two-handed sword, that mixes up the combat a lot too instead of click click click click while trying to hit your target.

And yes, I think normal melee combat needs to be tweaked, and I've supported adding things like momentum into the game to try to resolve that issue.

Take a chill pill, Mr. Jesus. Thought he meant something else. And constant clicking basic attack is not exactly a wise strategy in DFO.

I'm not sure where exactly I said that constant clicking was. I'm correcting your statement of "Are you trolling? How can you click in this game at all? If you somehow attempted to click in DFO, you played it completely wrong and no wonder the game sucked for you."

DF players have a mature audiance 20+ y/o players.

Kids don't like losing their stuff when they die, they will rage quit in a week (and punctually they do)

DF is a beautiful game, and everyone who plays it, if he doesn't like it at least doesn't hate it.

DF is what a real MMORPG should be, with a living world where the community is the focus, not the game mechanics.

I hope the new generations will understand what the old school players means when they always talk about the old UO days.

Why must you bring back such good memories? I really miss my Ultima Online days...... : (

Everquest and WoW almost killed this genre, thank god for developers like CCP and Aventurine for having the balls to try to bring it back to its roots.

Agreed (can't believe I'm agreeing with Kasmos!) it takes a small time developer in control of the game and its direction. Otherwise you'll have a bunch of suits telling you to make a WoW clone because it's so successful and is obviously the way to go. I used to think DFO was vapourware and AV were just a buch of bullshitters, I'm happy to say I was wrong and a twat.

The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"

Hahaha, I really only think that you and I disagree with each other in regards to stat grind. We seem to have very similar opinions about everything else!

That's part of my problem with Darkfall. Darkfall's skill system is limited by being too unlimited. You can train everything. At first glance that doesn't seem like a problem. Darkfalls skill system doesn't branch out to have specialties and sub-specialties, so most people will have archery, melee, and magic and usually at the same time. When I played everyone was an archer-mage-knight. There was also no economy because except for young characters, the crafters had most of the crafting lines on one character.

I'm not saying the game is bad. I'm just saying I thought the scope was really limited and that it didn't appeal to me.

That's what happens when you judge a game in the first couple hours of play.  How interesting is WoW when you have heroic strike and autoattack?

If you don't atleast get the the point where you have multiple skills/spells to cycle between then you shouldn't comment on the game.  It's plain ignorance.

I agree with the OP, especially on the "no CC" part.  Whoever thought CC was a good idea in MMORPG pvp was a freaking idiot.  Nothing worse than getting stunlocked to death.

Put it in perspective: In wow you get a new skill every 2 levels. In Darkfall, you get a new skill every... well, after power attack and seize, hours and hours and hours.
