Interesting news. I tried out the game yesterday for about 10 minutes (yes, I know it's a pretty short time to play a game like this) and came to the conclusion that it does in fact need at least another 2 months of development and polish before it can release.
Even before jumping into the game there are huge bugs. The character creation is a mess. Not only is there a lack of customization options but the hairstyles seem to hover around the character's head as if it's hanging by a thin wire above him/her and is extremely out of sync with the player model. You'd think with a game using the U3 engine that the customization alone would be deep and enthralling but it's nowhere near it. I expected more from people utilizing the Unreal engine of all things.
Upon jumping into the game I was horrified by the terrible texturing done on the landscape/building models. It's like they asked someone with very little experience to do the art. Being a texture artist myself I am shocked that anyone could make the U3 engine look so crappy.
For shits and giggles I equipped my sword and pulled it out. Tried swinging and was both pleasantly surprised and disappointed. On the positive end it looked and felt like pulling out and swinging a weapon in Oblivion. The negative part was the inherent lag going on from the initial clicking of my mouse to the sword actually swinging (possibly on my end, not sure but it felt wrong).
The only real guide you have is the "H" key (help menu) which gives you a general list of commands and things. Didn't seem like enough and a lazy substitution for a tutorial (not necessarily needed but would help put those commands into action a bit better).
Great idea, bad execution. I'm wondering why they're charging so much for this (and yes I realize DF cost as much as a top-brand studio's game). I wish them luck but won't pay a cent to these guys until the game feels a bit more polished.
Lol, how do you release a game when the launcher generally does not work, that's before you even get into the part where if the games starts you realize it is a 2D map with 3D characters with most of the logic processing client side, and has nothing in it. I mean, it has to be the biggest scam in recent gaming industry news.
What does that even mean? It sounds like you are trying to describe the isometric view from UO.
@ Mystik86: The starter axe is one of the slowest weapons in the game. Some of the delay you noticed is likely to be due to that.
Wasn't the axe, it was the sword. Doesn't matter anyways. That doesn't bother me so much. Mainly what's eating me about MO is the stuff I am hearing from others and some of it seeming to be majorly gamebreaking...
I have beta tested this game for the last two weeks and i agree with most here that this game is not even near ready. I was half tempted to buy it anyway because it does have a good skill system, and the housing system in the game seems like it will be pretty good. I also like their flagging system for PVP a lot, in my opinion it is much better than DFO. But i decided against it because there is very little information on how to play this game and what information there is, is scattered all over the internet. I have spent more time in this game trying to figure out how to do things than actually playing. There is no tutorial, and no tool tips to explain the different skills so i bought many skills that i did not need for what i was trying to accomplish. The community was not much help here, either they did not know much themselves, or they were not helping many people as a lot of questions i asked went unanswered. There are not that many different types of mobs to kill and so far i have ran into rabbits, pigs, weasels and gazelles. From what i have been able to figure out is that there are only about twelve types or so total in the whole game so far, pretty pathetic if you ask me. Another thing that i missed, is there are absolutely no PVE quests to help pad your pocket and develop your toons and teach you how to craft stuff. It looks like it might be a decent game one day maybe, but it needs a lot of work and i am not willing to buy a half finished product any more. I waited for six months before picking up Darkfall and am enjoying that one enough that i think i will just go back to playing it for awhile though i will be watching this one for a bit more hoping it will become more polished. I will absolutely wait for a trial period before i even consider buying. To anyone who bought this game already, i would ask for a couple of free months or a refund. If they do not i would cancel your sub until they put in more content. I have nearly skilled out my first character in the two weeks that i have been in game and don't see much opportunity for fun after i max out all my characters. The only thing to do after that is to become a griefer or quit. I don't even see much of an opportunity for any meaningful PVP in this game because as far as i'm aware there are no conquerable cities or anything like that in the game, though i may be wrong on this as i may not have been in game long enough to find any.
Part of what boggles me is the textures are not huge, they tile allot both on the objects and terrain and the characters "skin" is muddy and busy. So why does the game stutter and take so long to load demanding performance on the video card when barely anything is on screen?
Just a flawed engine in general that needs severe optimization and performance improvments.
Set Sail for Fail. Honestly this game could of made it if it was released in 2011 or later, here we go again!
Remember, the patch on monday will fix "many" of the open beta problems! Just ignore the last 8 patches that were suppose to fix the lag/desync, this one will fix it for sure!
I wasn't following MO very closely, but yesterday on a whim I installed the beta, and I played it for most of the day today. I was surprised by the lack of an interactive tutorial or real interaction with NPCs, or any sort of a map feature. I ran around some small, populated landscapes and then some large empty, unfinished-looking landscapes. I got griefed. I got PK'd. I crashed a bunch. I never did figure out if I was really missing "material lore" I needed to craft the most basic noob gear, or if it was a bug. But I felt the game had promise. So I thought I should be a good doob and go to the website to see what level of feedback they were looking for. I wanted to help with the debug process, but I didn't think I should go filing bug reports for every crash, and every levitating toon and mob I saw. At this point I was thinking the game had maybe just come out of alpha, and that they were probably worrying about much bigger problems, and would get to the detail stuff later, and maybe add in a better user interface while they were at it.
When I got to the site, I found the same post the OP has linked to. "Polishing?" No way. Release in March? March of THIS year? Criminy. They could at least push it back to April 1st, and pretend like they were joking.
Seriously? They still haven't created all the skills yet. You just say "tame" to a creature to tame it. /facepalm
lol, so you need to type in text commands to use skills O_o?
Yup, same for commanding your pet.
True
This is all straight up wrong. Taming has a skill and you do NOT have to type '/tame' to tame animals. There is also a little gui for controlling your pet. It's the little llama looking button near the center top of the screen.

I'd forgot about the control panel, but I've yet to see a hotkey for taming, as of yesterday it was still "tame". If I'm doing it wrong let me know, but that's what the guide told me to do.
You'll have to be an absolute moron to put money in to this game or even finding it remotely fun to play, its execution and feel is one big epic fail! At least DF released with a solid foundation and proper engine for mass PVP MMO the dev team can build upon and which they are doing,
This game the foundation isn't even right to build upon. I can't even believe they don't even have a Map in game, even UO most used a 3rd party map, then later clients the dev included it, if they think no map adds something to the game, their really mistaken.
*gets popcorn to watch MO detrail in the live MMO market*
I laughed after reading the title and thought it was a joke topic, but seen the link and realized its serious.. I still have hopes for this one, and hope the team pushing this out the door knows what they are doing.
If you play the open beta you can clearly see they don't know what they're doing! Their skills seem a bit to amateur to pull this game off, I bet they spend most their time asking for help from Unreal engine department in China asking the experts on the engine how to things are done.
Originally posted by IAmMMO I can't even believe they don't even have a Map in game
Yeah, I am totally confused by this no-map thing -- did they just not get around to doing it, or did they consciously decide it would be more "hardcore" not to have one? Do they want people to draw their own on graph paper or something? If they were trying to make exploration more challenging, you'd think they would implement a map that starts blank and fills in as you travel, and only shows places you've already been, or something. That can't be too hard to throw in. Games have had features like that for a long, long time. No map at all is just bizarre... or lazy
Hmm, why am I getting a Deja vú feeling? Vanguard all over again.
SV, please don't release the game until it is ready, you will loose a lot of players otherwise. WAR, AoC, DFO and many others did that mistake, you should have realized by now that releasing a game too early will only cost more money than fixing it up and release it when it is ready.

Those games were way more done than this game. They actually had content that lasted a few months, this game has enough content to last a week. Normal MMO people will cancel their subscriptions in under 2 weeks, just watch.

I have not played this game, and I don't understand why anyone would.
Have you seen the new trailer.... it makes the game look like it's running on a Comodore 64.
It looks like Vince did the Graphic design himself with his Slap Chop..Chop..Chop...
Seriously looks terrible.
Such a shame, the ideas they have are great. I mean REALY GOOD... too bad they drew it with crayons, and run their downloads using a 56k modem.
Someone with some cash should Steal every ideah they used in the making of this game and start over.
P.S. Even the framerate of the new trailer video is V e r y ... c h o p p y ... ..... ... what a shame.
BoB
Did you see the part with 20 the people on the screen? The guy was getting like 10 fps... this part

There's a usable/draggable macro button on the taming skill page of your skills panel. Just drag it over to the hotbar like you would any other skill.
