How do you like HL2?

OrccOrcc Member Posts: 3,043

Well, after spending about 5 hours playing, all i can say is wow. The graphics are unbelievable and it runs sooo smooth even though its displaying so much... the combat is exhilarating, the (few so far) puzzles have been tricky but nothing overwhelming... everything is awsome. When your out in the canals, gunshots echoe in the distance, the sound of grenades changes depending on distance and objects around you, the facial and over all animations are just incredible. The only thing i have found wierd so far is the driving physics in the boat, a little wierd. As far as story goes, im just as confused as Gordon, and the few twists already have made me pretty excited to find out what happens. I dont want to stop playing, but i have to do some homework ::::25:: needless to say, if you havent gotten this game yet, you have to be insane! Even if your in prison, break out and get HL2!

I played some CSS after having not played CS for about a year and boy was it ever fun, it was like playing CS again for the first time, with beautiful graphics.

i'm sort of stuck in that big base you get to after driving the boat... all the nmy's are dead, except for the chopper, which is fkin annoying tbh... I wouldn't say no to some pointers on what to doimage

The game is awesome. I've been taking time off from EQII to play this and so far I've not been dissapointed. Probably the most amazing thing about it is that it runs so smooth on my computer even with most of the visual settings on high. (I didn't put anti aliasing x8) I would recommend it to anyone who liked the first game or to those who like single-player FPS in general.

I actually feel kind of bad advancing in the game. There are so many little details. I know when I move on I've surly missed some little scene, noise, whatever that probably took a good deal of time to make and plan out. I hate calling it a game because it's obvious so much story boarding went into it, it's more like a movie.

A friend of mine came over and played the first stages for a bit and he was just amazed by being able to pick up stuff and throw it at people. That's all he was doing for ten minutes. I don't know why but I felt he shouldn't be playing because he was missing so many little details that were put in.

Also, like it's been said the graphics are amazing and smooth! I having everything up to the highest setting and have yet to encounter any major slow downs. I have a FX 5900, 3Ghz P4, and 1024 ram and I can't even play AC2 at it's full settings without it running like crap. And AC2 isn't even as good looking when it's turned up all the way. I realize AC2 and MMO's in general have a lot more happening on screen usually so I expect less performace but not to the extent that happens in AC2. Which goes back to my theory that the AC2 engine sucks... I'm going off topic...

Anyway, my only complaint about the game is it seems a tad too linear. Maybe it's because I haven't played any other FPS's in a long time and I've just been playing MMO's. Other than that I'm quite impressed. And oh yeah, I agree that the driving physics are kind of stupid, I couldn't flip the air boat! Which I guess is a good thing but still it's kind of wierd and takes the skill out of it.

I still haven't had a chance to play the game even though i got it yesterday... But when i get home from school i'll probably have time to give it a spin, so I will put up some screens and my thoughts on the game.

I just find it kinda wierd that they've been working on this sucker for 4 years and they release it exactly in the middle of EQ2 and Wow.  I'll pick it up for sure, but I can wait til the price comes down. . .

Well I just beat it, all i can say is wow. The last few hours are just incredibly cool, and the inside of the citadel is quite possibly one of the coolest things ive ever seen (mainly the tram ride). Other than being fairly easy at the very end, it was quite challenging but never difficult, i dont know what that gamespot reviewer was thinking when he wrote that review but its a bunch of BS. Anyways, everything, i mean everything about this game is awsome. I cant wait to play it again, and again and again! I wish the end didnt leave so many questions up in the air, it was very intriging but a little disappointing

    ***Spoliers ahead***

I really wish you got to go to the combine homeworld, and i wish you could at least know what your efforts created when you finally finish, but one thing is for certain, there will be a HL3, and i cant wait! If its as much as an improvement over HL2 as it was over half-life, then words cant even begin to describe. I cant even imagine what the graphics engine would be like...

Exciting, challenging but not impossible for a casuel gamer like myself.  I play with my young son and we get a kick out of the AI monsters hiding and running from our concussion grenades.  For just 1 on 1 the battlefields are great becuase of the territories feauture.  Anywyas lost of good fun for your money and we dont even have Xbox live yet.  I cant imagine how much fun it would be to play with your office mates from around the city on a Friday night.  Pure adrenaline and aggression outlets!

I beat the game in a day and a half(about 12 hours of actual play). It is absolutely awesome. The environment to the characterization is just top notch. I mean you can see embarassment of the faces of the characters, you csan see genuine feelings. It'll blow you away. While the game may be short, I enjoyed every minute. I'll be replaying several times in the near future. I have to say that no game has done so well to live up to its hype, especially considering we've been hyping it for 5 years.

Runs flawlessly for me (the only time I get noticeable slow, and it isnt even all that much, is when there is either a lot of water and sprites and shaders in effect, or in only the most extreme situations with lots of AI running, things blowing up, bodies flying, bullets whizzing by... you know the drill) Im running it on 1280x1024, all settings high, reflect all, 4X AA and 8xAF. I love my 6800GT now image

Oh ya, on the video test in CSS, i get 121fps with 1024x768 same settings, and somewhere around 81fps on 1280x1024.

I have a Chaintech 6800GT, I love it, and it's the cheapest 6800GT i know of, but it sacrifices nothing in performace. Its one of the best for Overclocking, and it comes with a fairly decent (not great) heat sink/fan. the rest of my system is an A64 3200+, 1 gig of OCZ PC3220 DDR400 Ram and an Asus K8Ne-deluxe mobo.

Dont forget that HL1 was only 45mins long*, so its abit of an improvement.

*There was a guy who completed the whole thing in 45mins, i saw the vid on a disc that came with a PC mag, its probably on the net somewhere. It awsome how he manages to jump through Xen in about 3 minuites.
