Youd run it fine. My friend is playing it on a 2.5ghz, i think 1 gig of ram and a 9700 and he says it runs fine on 1024x768. They really made an incredible engine, since it can have so much detail, look really good, and run fine.

I never had any problem with, and neither have anyone I know, and we all purchased retail. The only gripe i have is the sound bug, which makes the game stutter once in awhile, but its rare and not too annoying, just hoping it gets fixed soon.

Yeah, I had the sound bug a few times too, but it’s so rare that it’s not that big a deal. Oh and Jayheld90, it's definitely not a waste of money in my opinion. Everyone I know loves the game and the only people I've heard hate it were the extreme fanboys who expect perfection and the ones complaining about steam. I installed it the afternoon that it came out and it took 10 minutes to register and I was in playing.

Anyways, everything, i mean everything about this game is awsome. I cant wait to play it again, and again and again! I wish the end didnt leave so many questions up in the air, it was very intriging but a little disappointing

I really wish you got to go to the combine homeworld, and i wish you could at least know what your efforts created when you finally finish, but one thing is for certain, there will be a HL3, and i cant wait! If its as much as an improvement over HL2 as it was over half-life, then words cant even begin to describe. I cant even imagine what the graphics engine would be like...

There -is- going to be an expansion pack. Valve has already stated they're working on one, even before it was released; I hope it's Shephard, since Barney Calhoun is already in HL2 (:

Oh yeah.. authentication takes -so- long that you can't take 15 minutes (at most, not sure about estimates since I got it on opening day) out of your day to authenticate. If anything, EQ patches are long and they rarely serve any purpose than to nerf the hell out of anything (:

After a few days play my feelings are...

The steam software...hate installing anything i have no need for. Why i have to install it to play a offline game i don't know.....and were the heck is the offline option listed in the instructions??

    The GFX are amazing.

Gameplay very linear and anyone who has played half life 1 will feel very comfortable with it....but is it too familiar??

Vehicles....hate any game that includes vehicles. The controls never sit too well with a first person shooter and its been done before.

Creatures... From what i have seen so far very unimaginative. Old enemies join creatures from movies....take the sand creatures....right out of star ship troopers.

Story.... In half life your primarily objective was to survive...you didn't need a narative or cutscene to show you this. Even when the soldiers appeared, npc's thought they were saved until cutdown by them....you knew they were also after you....But Half life 2.....why are aliens working along side humans? when did Earth surrender and who to??

Valve broke the mould when they created half life....but with half life 2 they just half filled the same mould!

    A. Yes, the steam sucks but you don't know how many times I've lost my CD's and thanks to Steam, I don't need to look for them; I can just use steam and download which saves a lot of time.

B.Yes, the graphics rock :b They can run on lower-end machines and still get good FPS and visuals.

    C. I'm not sure if you remember but there too many guns in Black Mesa, yes, it added to the charm but most of them you didn't even need to use.

    D. I thought the vehicles handled spectacularly, if they didn't handle well it's because you've been playing too many games that aren't physically adept.

    E. Those Sand Creatures are antlions, they're bugs, duh.. but the antlions themselves reproduce not rely on a queen. They added a lot more to the gameplay than just old enemies, plus it's fun to see the antlions attack the combine army, it's a one-sided battle but still extremely fun to watch.

    F. Read the newspaper clippings in the various environments, no one forced you to run through it. Take your time, in case you didn't remember the storyline; The combine took the Earth by surprise for 7 days, Breen appeared and they took over. The humans surrendered to live in what paltry existence they have. Sure, it's been done before but not in this magnitude. You feel like you're actually in a war against the Combine.

    G. If you remember in Xen world around all those alien slaves, remember in the factory, they didn't attack you. The overlords were commanding them so once they were set free; They wanted to help the humans so they do so.

The game is short but I'm hoping that mod makers do lots of great stuff with the engine and game itself. Sven co-op anyone? (:

I bought the game on steam. I started playing the game around 3:00AM(EST) on tuesday and beat it on thursday 4:00AM. Sadly I had to break the game's greatness with class and meals and some sleep. It was 12 hours of extreme joy. I've been waiting for 5 years and finally it's here. Despite my anticipation, I think the final game is amazing. Three cheers for VALVe!!!!

I just finished HLII on the hard setting, beating it a second time and I have to whole story down to every G-man easter egg appearence to every character history. Just ask if you want the spoilers. I know the ending is shocking and very matrixy, but just ask me if you want some more clearification.

It was good but the ending sucked. And before anyone says I'd like to see you do any better. I know I could do better given the resources that they have.

  • KiamdeKiamde Member CommonPosts: 5,820

I liked the ending, but it left so many questions. Luckily they are making a HLIII that will be releases in 2005.

Ya, since theyll most likely just be using an upgraded Source engine, it shouldn't take them nearly as long as with HL2. Of course, they may also put out an expansion for HL2 similar to blue shift, maybe where you play as Barney or a random rebel civilian, that way you could find out *spoilers* what happens to the world after Gordon gets wisked away. Regardless, I have so many questions about HL... who is the G-Man or better yet what is he, who are your employers, what happened to Alyx, where can i get a pet headcrab like Lamar ::::02::.... ya I could go on for awhile, but... nah

100 percent sure that G-man is an Alien rebel in human disguise [explain speech impedement and time travel] that is using Gordon to stop a future war of the universe. Any more questions?

That's what I'm thinking, especially the way he keeps talking about jobs and how he doesn't seem able to speak normally. Anyways I found this page that explained the story line from 1, 2, and everything in between very well.

    http://members.shaw.ca/storage_4/hl2story/

It helped me fill in on the gaps from the first game that I forgot about and also described some of the newspaper clippings in the 2nd that I must have missed.

Yeah. The newspaper clippings in Ravenholm show that New York was taken over because of the statue of liberty.

Great stuff. I think it would be safe to say G-man isn't human, and some of that backstory stuff about the combine controlling the Xenians I didnt even know about. You have no idea how badly I want HL3 now ::::02::

It took 3 years to build the havok physics engine [first tested on Deus ex II] and 5 years to build the source engine so since the engines are made, It is just up to ol' Gaben to write his little heart out JK Rowling style for HLIII's storyline.

    Can you say

    BEST 3D SHOOTER EVER

Oh I can just hear the Halo fanboys come out now.

Look.  HL2 is the first of it's genre.  It's the first 3D Shooter that has environments that look modern.  Sure the storyline takes place in the future.  But you still have houses, bridges, buildings... environments you will see in our modern times except destroyed because it was invaded by aliens (Don't worry, that's not a spoiler, heck I don't even know why all the landscapes are destroyed yet, I didn't get to that point in the story yet!)

The there's the fact that you're not just going around SHOOTING all the time.  You have vehicules, and original ones too.  You have weapons you could only imagine... such as the famous GRAVITY GUN which I have so much fun with.  I mean imagine picking up almost any object you see, shooting it far away with your gravity gun, picking up large bricks or razors and launching them at your enemies to kill them.  That's so original!  Never before seen in any 3D Shooter or game whatsoever!

Speaking of physics... it definatly has the greatest physics ever!!!  If you throw a paper box or a wooden box at an enemie, it will make a difference.  Drop a piece of wood on an enemies head it will do nothing.  Drop a BRICK on his head and you knock him out!  Or the way glass shatters.   Or when you fire a rocket at an enemie to see where they will fly off to and land.  The physics are too real, it's scary!

Look, I played Doom 3... the game was bad.  The first 1-2 hours were scary and awesome... after that, it was boring, repetitive... I didn't even want to play anymore.  And that's what I did.

Farcry, while an amazing game, I never had the interest to finish the game just cause it felt like I've already play a 3D Shooter just like it (coughTurokcough).  Being in the jungle, caverns or metal building... deja-vu...

HL2???  Everything is new.  Everything is original.  Nothing has been seen before.

If you have the perfect PC to run HL2 and you don't play it.  You're either a 3D Shooter hater, or you just suck.   Whoever says HL2 sucks has not played enough 3D shooters in his life.

My roomate doesnt like first person shooters, but he was still impressed with the G-man intro, but who the hell wouldn't be. When I was playing yesterday, I came out of one of the tunnels on the dune buggy level, and I swear that the scene could have been real, if I walked into the room without knowing it was a game I would have sworn it was a photograph. Great stuff.
